Talking about him going down like Mubarak, I find it interesting that when people got out on the street in Egypt, Mubarak and his foreign minister said "this is Egypt, not Tunisia." He insisted that he would not go because the country go fall into chaos.

Now Saif, Gaddafi's son also says his father will not go that Libya is not Egypt or Tunisia. Gadaffi is also trumpeting his many victories like Mubarak did in his last speech.

Mubarak said this is not Tunisia and then he fell.

Gaddafi also says this is not Tunisia or Egypt. Won't he fall also.

At last, the speech ends.

As the commentator on Al jazeera said, there is no one there to listen to him.

So this is the domino effect the west was so scared of during the cold war. Na wa o. Which arab country is next in line now. Will all this reach saudi arabia?

Too much of a good thing could become bad.

I'm sure Libyans rejoiced and danced in streets when Gadaffi came to power----understandably!

If he had relinquished power after a year or 4 years at best when the ovation was the loudest, he would have remained an eternal hero to his poeople and Africans in general.
No, once he tasted the sweet intoxicating smell of power, he remained addicted to the influence.

That will be the logical conclusion.
All these kings and queens installed by the British during the World wars really have no place in their people's day-to-day lives.

To tell the truth, I love this game me too!
So do you think, that I/sage am/is Algerian or Nigerian? Black or White?
And by the way, are you supremacist or racialist? Muslim, christian or other?
And most importantly, since Africa was the name given by Greek/Romans to North Africa, are you African? tongue

Concerning Kadhafi, he's just some talkative crazy megalomaniac folk with certainly a lot of sens of humour. You're probably the first admirer of him that I ever met. As an arab speaker (maybe sage do too ), I can tell you that in the arab world, he's one of the rarest persons that everybody agrees to hate (even if some will miss his jokes).

Saudi King offers benefits to citizens as he returns from treatment

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has announced increased benefits for his citizens, as he returned after months abroad getting medical treatment.

There will be extra funds for housing, studying abroad and social security, according to state television.

King Abdullah has been away from the country for three months, during which time mass protests have changed the political landscape of the Middle East.

There have been few demonstrations in Saudi Arabia.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12550326

The monarch's imminent return was welcomed by the Saudi media.

"The king is the only pillar of stability in the region now," read the editorial in the English-language daily Arab News. "He is the assurance of orderly progress, in the Arab world as a whole."

Saudi television reported that Bahrain's King Hamad was also flying into Riyadh on Wednesday.

The small state on Saudi Arabia's eastern border has seen more than a week of protests and the Bahraini authorities were criticised internationally for their initial crackdown on demonstrators.

Finally, I don't know if I was somehow clumsy talking about how my people view darker skin people, but to show you how it's really difficult to tell I remember that I argued once with a friend (Algerian "white" too, who lived in a town 30km distant from mine) about  if there's actually any racism in Algeria against black people, and we totally disagreed on that! I think that the best answer that I should gave is that's unfortunately a non-issue for most people there even for the black Algerians and I'm pretty sure that you'll never find any Algerian saying that he will be glad to kill black people as it was said right here about Arabs/North Africans,

Odd enough, I have a female Muslim friend who has traveled to various Arab countries; Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Morocco, Algeria just to name a few, and she has told me that the perceptions of blacks and dark skinned people are horrible. She even tried to start a campaign in one of these countries where she did her study abroad in order to try and educate people against their prejudice. However, she said her efforts were shut down.

I think though that experiencing the situation as a black person and perceiving it as a non-black are completely different.

I totally agree with your conclusion in bold. I gave my own perception of things and it may of course be not that correct, what I can assure at least is that in most of the North African countries, strangers don't usually mix with locals so the stereotypes may be very rooted but when that mixing occurs (by mixing I mean making friends and living amoung the people, not in ghettos or hotels) things tend to go pretty smoothly. Whatever the situation is in that matter, internal discriminations (between tribes, regions or ethnic/religious groups) are more serious problems for North Africans than those against foreigners since those foreigners are quite few in number anyways.

Talking about stereotypes, I remember one day when I was younger (around 1995), I was playing football in the street with friends in Algeria when a black guy passed by. Being curious, we went to him to chat (back then it was so unusual to see a foreigner) and we learnded that he was actually, Nigerian! We thought "Great! He must be doing very well in football" (Nigeria did great in the 1994 world cup, a year or so before), so we gave him the ball to see how good is he. Well, it was a big disappointement, he was just awful.
Conclusion: Just as every people in earth, we learned that some Nigerians may have a horrendous game!  grin

As I said before, I'm not defending my people since I believe that ideas and values bonds are more important than blood ones, but I really realy doubt that the Algerian counterpart of this may exist :

Re: Gaddafi Flies In Black Africans To Quell Protests As Libya Descends Into Anarchy by cap28: 3:04pm On Feb 24, 2011
Libya has a long and tragic history with colonialism. Italy seized control in 1911, carrying out 30 years of war against a rebellious people. This culminated in the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini employing aerial bombardments, gas, concentration camps and deliberate starvation to wipe out nearly half of the population.

In the aftermath of World War II, Washington attempted to turn the country into its own platform for asserting control over the territories previously dominated by the European colonial powers. It established Wheelus Air Force Base in Libya as one of its key strategic overseas facilities and secured lucrative deals for Standard Oil and other US oil companies to loot the country’s natural resources.

The coming to power of Gaddafi and his Free Officers movement in 1969 overturned this relationship for a period.

The watchword must be: the greatest enemies of the people of Libya and the Middle East are the US and European imperialists.

Overthrowing the dictatorship is the task not of imperialism, which is prepared to pursue its domination of Libya with or without Gaddafi, but of the Libyan masses.

Two weeks ago Gadaffi is said to have advised the dispossessed Palestinians to capitalise on the current revolts spreading through the middle east by massing peacefully on the borders of Israel until it (Israel) gives in to their demands.

Apparently this was his first speech since Hosni Mubarak was ousted.

He also said:

"Fleets of boats should take Palestinians ,  and wait by the Palestinian shores until the problem is resolved," Gaddafi was shown saying on state television. "This is a time of popular revolutions."

"We need to create a problem for the world. This is not a declaration of war. This is a call for peace," he said in a speech given to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohamed, a holy day in the Islamic calendar.

He also said: "All Arab states which have relations with Israel are cowardly regimes."

Has his call for justice for the Palestinians proved to be the catalyst that has set in motion the attempt to  topple his regime?

Did Israel fear that the Palestinians might want to capitalise on the current situation raging through the middle east and end up on the receiving end of it?

An article detailing his speech says:

Gaddafi also issued a call to Muslim countries to join forces against Western powers. He said the world was divided into white, denoting the United States, Europe and their allies, and green for the Muslim world.

"The white colour has decided to get rid of the green colour," Gaddafi said. "These countries should be united against the white colour because all of these white countries are the enemies of Islam."

He said violent acts committed by Osama Bin Laden's al Qaeda network went against Islam because they killed innocent people. But he said there was a political explanation for the emergence of militant Islamists.

"Why did this movement emerge? Regardless of its behaviour, in my analysis this movement appeared in response to the American arrogance towards the Islamic nation and in response to its hegemony of the Islamic world," Gaddafi said.

"It was a response to ,  the submission of rulers in the Islamic world, the subservience of rulers in the Islamic world to this arrogance from Europe and the United States," he said.

Gaddafi has for decades challenged what he describes as Western imperialism. His oil exporting country spent years under international sanctions for seeking banned weapons and sponsoring militant groups.

These were lifted in 2004 when Gaddafi renounced his previous activities, though he still frequently deploys his colourful rhetoric against the West.

Is Gadaffi now paying the price for inciting the Palestinians to rise up against Israel as well as rallying Islamic countries to unite against their common enemy the US, britain and europe?

There are people on here ignorantly demonising him - many are blissfully unaware that he provided financial assistance to groups fighting for self-determination (such as the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), the Irish Republican Army (IRA), and the African National Congress (ANC).

Mandela never forgot his generosity and helped to broker peace between him and the west following the Lockerbie allegations.

I honestly do not beleive that you are an arab you know why?  arabs unlike black africans recognise and understand that america and europe are their mortal enemies, black africans live in blissful ignorance and look upon the white man as their friend.

Your utterances demonstrate that you belong to the latter group.

Gaddafi's problems with the west did not start today, the minute he refused to bow down before the west and allow them in to Libya to do what they wanted with his oil reserves he became public enemy no 1 and had to be dealt with.

Whether you want to accept it or not america is indeed a satanic nation intent on retaining its position in the world as an  empire, it doesnt care who it has to kill, topple or enslave in order to hold on to that position, this is why the americans are now talking about a military intervention in Libya on "humanitarian grounds".

Do you know how many UN troops they sent to Rwanda when the genocide therer went into overdrive?  5,000 - can you beleive that the US controlled UN would only send 5,000 men to protect the rwandan tutsis despite the severe danger these people were in , as if that wasnt bad enough these troops were instructed not to take part in defending tutsis but to only secure the area!!!  Contrast that with whats happening in Libya, see how quickly they are talking about imposing a no fly zone and deploying troops to the area.

Is berlusconi the worst european politician you can think of - do you think cameron, sarkozy and other european leaders do not have skeletons in their cupboard?

Gadaffi was able to make berlusconi pay Libya billions of dollars in reparations as compensation for italy's brutal occupation of Libya in the 1920s:

Now, in an unprecedented act of contrition by a former European colonial power, Italy has formally apologized for its past injustices during its 30-year reign in Libya early last century, and agreed to pay $5 billion in reparations to Tripoli. Gaddafi promptly declared Aug 30 — the day the deal was inked in — Libyan-Italian Friendship Day.

He must be doing very well in football" (Nigeria did great in the 1994 world cup, a year or so before), so we gave him the ball to see how good is he. Well, it was a big disappointement, he was just awful.

Algerian, I think savanaha was referring to the Dark skinned people of Algeria, and not foreigners per se.

By Dark Skinned, I mean people with "negroid" skin color and hair. or berbers that look like them. Those are the kind of Black people I was referring to also when I asked my question initially.

I know there are people like that in Egypt, and also to a small extent in Iraq and several Middle-Eastern countries. Do you think they are all foreigners? if not;

Can you offer more insight into how those specific Algerians or North-Africans are perceived or treated culturally and socially?

Like you said; You don't live in Algeria anymore and you are "white" Algerian, so your views may be from that perspective. but I'm interested in any further insight you can provide.
