Ab0bi: Any woman that is cheated of her inheritance now just mean she is ignorant of her right. Any repugnant tradition can be set aside if challenged. And the pronouncement of court becomes law. So you agree the tradition is repugnant and yet want to retain it? Lol!!! 1 Like |

Y SHOULD MY DAUGHTER INHERIT ME, NA ME GO GIVE AM BELLE? IS SHE GOING TO REMAIN IN MY HOUSE. WAT IS NORMAL TO YORUBA IS AN ABOMINATION TO IGBO. ONE MAN FOOD IS ANOTHER MAN POISON. IF YORUBA CULTURE IS SO GREAT, Y ARE DEY SHOVING THEIR ILLS DOWN OUR THROAT BY FORCE. PEOPLE USUALLY DO NOT GIVE AWAY ANYTHING GOOD, IT IS THE BAD ONES THEY WANT TO SHARE. 6 Likes |

PearlStreet: We are not talking about Regents who are even lesser than local councillors, we are talking of the highest royal stools in yorubaland Ooni, Alaafin, Awujale and Alake, etc. Why are yorubas discriminating against their females from attaining those revered traditional positions. yoruba jibiti and their half-baked arguments as always. 5 Likes 1 Share |

while serving in Ohaji/Egbema in Imo state then, there were alot of taboos exclusively for the females. Amongst them is that female Shouldn't break the cola nut and many more. Igbo's females are very industrious to the extent of riding bicycle to and from the farm heavily loaded even with children. In this wise, while must they be cut off from inheriting their legal and biological father. Igbo's tradition is barabaric with respect to this seclusion. I'm a man who vehemently repudiate feminism, meanwhile, truth be told; woman must have due share in their father's estates not only in Igbo land but everywhere in the world. 3 Likes |

fergie001:That is the crux of the matter!! So if there’s plenty to go round, why wouldn’t the women inherit? This still boils down to how rich the man was and the number of properties he left behind |

All it is going to do is promote will writing service for charge and bail lawyers. Igbo men with substance will now learn to write their will before they before they kpeme. Culture should be innovative, adaptive and fair. There is nothing bad in female children getting shares of their parents estates, married or not. In fact, in some part of Igboland, only the first son gets everything. 2 Likes |

Dedetwo: Like I said, that yoruba man's judgement remains an academic venture, let the yoruba men who have married Igbo daughters go and start dragging their father-in-law's properties, let's see how it pans out. Let them test the useless judgment in practice and stop making noise. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Beremx:Exactly, but change the "inherit" to "gift". You know it is difficult for the girl-child to be given whilst the man is dead. Unless he wrote a will for that or he informed someone before his death. So the advisable thing, the man should at least let them know before he "goes home." |

PearlStreet:..there should be a law that states that if alafin of oyo's eldest offspring is a female she should inherit her father's throne cos she is the eldest likewise the emir of sokoto.. I am disappointed in the kind of legal system we run in this country why not chanell same energy towards amending our constitution and reducing the outrageous salary and bonuses being carted away by our senators, governors, house of representatives etc... the issue of gender equality should apply in all aspects of our lives just like the british ..there is this igbo adage that says 'when another person's corpse is being carried it looks like a log of firewood ' 6 Likes 1 Share |

OUR DAUGHTERS ULTIMATELY END UP IN ANOTHER FAMILY AND THEIR AFTER ASSIMILATED. SHE IS MEANT TO BE GIVEN AWAY AS ORDAINED BY GOD. WE WONT KEEP HER OR GIVE HER INHERITENCE THAT IS MEANT FOR THOSE THAT STAY BEHIND. WE WILL CELEBRATE HER AND GIVE HER GIFTS. THIS IS THE IGBO WAY, NOBODY SHOULD INTERFERE WITH OUR TRADITION, NOT EVEN THE SUPREME COURT. 7 Likes

LaboPolitics: Didnt your Ibo daughter take the case to court in the first place?Yoruba women can challenge to be Alaafin or Ooni in a court of law,if they please. There was once a female Alaafin and Ooni of Ife in the past.Alaafin oronpoto and Queen Luwo of Ife.Google is your friend.Islam and Christianity bans women from becoming what they were in the traditional religion.i.e head of a kingdom etc. 3 Likes 1 Share |

PearlStreet: yoruba big-mouthed utopianist. A written will remains sacrosanct. You remind me of one idiotic yoruba woman who married an Igbo lawyer, made the man a vegetable and engineered him to sell his lagos properties and hand the money to her. The yoruba woman after achieving her aim, brought buyers to sell off the remaining properties in Orlu, Owerri and Onitsha. She ran for dear life when the relatives came out to confront her. She is a lawyer, why didn't she go to court to speak the long English you are speaking here? The man is currently in mentally sick and yoruba woman took advantage of that to milk him dry and abandoned him with his relatives. Even the Supreme courts can't help her in this case. LaboPolitics:Name one major royal stool in igboland occupied by females. At least yorubas allow their female children occupy the position of regents. Moreover, females have occupied both the Ooni and Alaafin stools before. Google is your friend. Truth be told, igbos see their female children as more of a business item, than real children. 1 Like |
