“We often dread getting older because we see it as losing so much that we value. But we can grow older without growing old and we can retain energy, zest and vigour at every stage of life.
“Diet, lifestyle, exercise and vitamins can all help to slow down the ageing process but the most important tool to slow down ageing is the mind.

“You can use your mind to slow down the ageing of your body and of your memory too and of course the good news is that this is free.”
Here are Marissa’s seven top tips to defy ageing:

1. Don't talk old talk

Stop staying “I feel old”, or anything else along those lines.
Don't refer to yourself as ancient or geriatric. Your mind believes every word you say so describing yourself as an antique even jokingly means your mind first has to picture what that is then your body works to meet the picture.
Your mind and body act in a way that matches how you describe yourself - so instead of saying I look old - which is permanent--say I look tired which is temporary.

2. Anti-age your mind, keep a super sharp memory

Embrace change and new challenges and you will slow down ageing. Make routine your enemy because it stops your body and brain being challenged.
Do things that communicate to your brain and body that you are young.
Exercise your mind: Sudoku, crosswords, and joining in with quiz shows keep your brain agile, if you do Sudoku and read your paper on your iPad or tablet you are doing something new that keeps your brain in peak condition.
The neurons in your brain remain strong and continue to renew themselves with use, whereas they wither and become inert without use.
The mind and the body work on the use it or lose it principle, so use your brain like a muscle and you will slow down mental and physical ageing.

3. Slow down ageing of your immune system and your skin

Skin brushing boosts your immune system.
Brushing lymph sites in your groin, armpits and neck boosts your lymph system, keeping you healthy and looking and feeling younger.
If your body isn't active you begin to experience muscle wastage. Tests have shown that jumping on a mini-trampoline for just 10 minutes a day gets rid of bags under your eyes, because its aero dynamic and again it boosts your lymph system so you have glowing skin with less bags and wrinkles.

The age you feel is also affected by time listening to music, dancing and laughing, all of which cause your body to produce hormones and chemicals associated with youth.

4. Sleep for rejuvenation
Keep your phone or laptop away from your bed at night. The electro-magnetic frequencies will age your body if they are too close to you.
Move appliances out of the bedroom, use a battery clock and a non-cordless phone too. Be in bed by midnight several nights a week.
At 2am your body begins the cycle of repair, which it can't do if you are still awake.
Staying up late every night means your body sets aside cell repair which accelerates ageing.
Don't sleep with your faced pushed into multiple pillows sleep on one flatish pillow as a wrinkle is a memory pleated into our face over time.
Use a silk pillow case - we normally sleep on our right-hand sides and have more wrinkles on that side if we press our face into big puffy pillows.

5 Reverse hair ageing

Snack on walnuts as they are rich in copper which stops hair going grey.
Hair loss is linked to lack of blood supply across the scalp so brush and massage your scalp to stimulate blood flow.
Standing on your head will boost hair growth. It's just as effective to kneel with your head cupped into your palms, then move on to your feet so your head is more inverted. This boost blood flow to your scalp, nourishing hair follicles and encouraging healthy hair growth.

6. Have sex

Sex tricks your body into thinking you are younger.
Having frequent sex tricks your mind into believing you must be trying to conceive and as a result it has an anti-ageing effect on older people.
Orgasm is very good for your skin and creates natural killer cells that fight illness and depression. Sex also enhances the number of newly generated neurons in the brain, preserving your long-term memories.

7. Try something different

Nuerobiocs are mental exercises that make new brain neurons every time you do new things or do old things slightly differently.
