5th Jan 1984
Nineteen military governors were formally appointed by the new Head of State, Major-General Mohammadu Buhari, and other members of the country's Supreme Military Council (SMC) in Lagos on January 4 to run Nigeria's federal states.General Buhari attended the official swearing-in ceremony, which came four after he led a bloodless coup ousting former President Shehu Shagari.

Speaking at the ceremony, Buhari reminded his new governors of their duties. All were chosen, he said, for their ability to discharge their responsibilities in the best interests of the country. He went on to warn them that crime and corruption for personal gain, one reason for the coup, would be ruthlessly punished.

General Buhari added the corruption and hoarding in the private sector would not be tolerated. He ended his speech by telling the assembled governors they were answerable to the country's military chiefs of staff and subject to redeployment at any time. All former state governors have been given a week to report to police.General Buhari has pledged to revive the country's economy and also to end the armed robberies in major cities that have become commonplace in the last few years.

The fate of former top officials in the Shagari administration is still to be decided by the new military government, and Shagari himself is being held in custody.

Kobojunkie,

Please let me know all your concerns about  Buhari and I would try and answer them

You missing the point, Nigerians should be able to verify or request who Buhari is Under the Freedom of Information Act in Nigeria NOT only you.
What is Buhari's Driver's license number?
Where does he live, work history or education.
Did he run a sucessful government in the past?

Where can l find information about him or any other politician in Nigeria in the government database?
If you can track Buhari's information, then you should be able to track any Nigerian information, can you?
Do you have GPS tracking systems for all Nigerians?

You dont need a soothsayer to translate for you. PDP and their GEJ are getting desperate and in the process, are showing their true colours, which is that GEJ is a staunch believer in maintaining the status quo (perpetrating corruption), just like OBJ planned. This further justifies the suspicion which many held about him when he was hand-picked to deputize over a three-quarter dead dead man by OBJ. The plan worked quite alright, now we are seeing the truth prevailing.
Ask yourself people; why is Anenih (and so many dead woods like him), a celebrated suspected thief of PDP extraction still FIXing for GEJ? Why is GEJ still negotiating with near-irrelevant northern politicians like A-thief-KU and CHEat-ROMA? How come GEJ all of sudden is praise-singing the much spoken about International Big Barawo? Listen, all the next ministerial and head of parastatal seats have all been negotiated, the same THIEVES have been allocated to continue looting your treasury to their personal accounts in the next dispensation should GEJ win. Nothing will change, except that more people like you and me will die of poverty, or loose their jobs or not getting employment when GEJ is voted in again. Yet, I still read comments like North this, Christians that? South fii and Muslims faa? Nigeria will never run short of blind morons! Between that 1% of THIEVES who have held Nigeria hostage and are milking it to their bank accounts, while all our aged parents, friends, colleagues and children still die of road accidents, infected water and Malaria, you will never lack muslims nor will there be shortage of christians in their fold, nor atheists. If you want Northerners, they are represented and so are the southerners, middle belters are also not left behind. If you screen them properly, almost all tribes are represented, yet, they keep us blind morons at each others' throats by all sorts of sentiments, from religion to region; From tribe to taboo and temptations to tribulations. Their sole intention is to use a smoke screen to divide us, while they silently use the screen to smile to their banks! Their children wed abroad, their wives deliver outside, their parents and cronies do their medical check-up overseeas, while their children study in UK, USA and Asian universities. Their accounts are abroad so when wahala drops, they only need to escape on okada to the nearest boarder. Lately, most of their family members have second passports, thus they are assured of another nationality. It is only you and I that are stuck with the green passport, alone!
Wake up short-sighted, unthinking and sentimental population of mediocrity! I was born in the north and I am constantly surrounded with almajiris who cannot make ends meet, nor their parents. My secondary school was in the south-south where the people can no longer farm, fish nor engage in any meaningful agricultural practice, yet they are the goose that lay the golden egg? I served in the south-west and used to visit lagos where a graduate being an area boy is to make ends meet, where u see graduates holding first class or second class upper as agberos in motor parks or some other unthinkable job which does not befit their credentials. I have had to do business traveling to the east and have seen how energetic, innovative youths engage in unpleasant practices just to earn a living.
Common people, the problems are same ALL over Nigeria. You want proof? People die in accidents all over Nigeria due to bad roads. Malaria is still a killer in about all states. Unemployed youths are everywhere. Armed robbery is common place all over Nigeria! white elephant projects of government both at federal, state and local government levels are spread all over. If you think your state is worse, try going to another and you would be surprised. Listen, we are all victims, none of us is happy!
Care not about that person who rules NIGERIA, no matter his tribe, religion or region, ONLY CARE about HE/SHE who LOVES NIGERIANS and NIGERIA. Because that is our common destiny and we must do ALL we can to protect it! Dont be lured by sentiment, ACT wisely
The time to stop them is NOW, or else in 20 years, I bet you, our children may not even be educated enough to read and understand what I have just written. You know why? Yes, it will be because by then, there may even be no budget for education. All the money of our dear nation would be in personal bank accounts, while NIGERIA will be heavily indebted to ALL the lending houses all over the world.
When we get to that stage, only then will we all throw away all these so-called differences and confront the TRUTH head on, just like Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen are currently doing.
That time, we would have no choice and surely it will take more casualties.
Lets do it now, it will be very peaceful and very, very rewarding!
Lets put aside all our so-called differences NOW and come together for NIGERIA, for our children and our children's children. The only way to do it is,
DO NOT VOTE PDP, no matter what!
Even in experiments, scientists accept trials 3 times (OBJ, OBJ, YarAdua/GEJ).

Everything a Nigerian in his/her right senses need to know is summed up in your post. BRILLIANT!

If wishes were horses then beggers would ride. Buhari should also know that this is not a military coup. The attitude of old and aged(over 65yrs) African leaders thinking that the only know how to do it best having been there before is purely 100% less selfless of them. It can never happen again in Africa including Nigeria in Jesus Name. It's forbiden.

Buhari is better poised than GEJ or Ribadu to fix the nation. This shabby govt PDP is running, how long before it produce real ethnic militias as a result of disinterested masses ?
Re: Coup Speech Of Major-general Muhammadu Buhari, January 1, 1984 by hubreality(m): 7:45am On Mar 15, 2011
I would not bother about if GEJ, Buhari or Ribadu wins. People are now wiser than in the 80s. Corruption is not only when monies are stolen in public offices and the likes, it is also evident in self driven passions and ambitions of the people.

Religious and ethnic crisis resulting to yearly lost of lives and properties are worst and evil than the corruption we know. I can only but call God to help us cultivate the right selfless mindset including my very self.

The pro Buhari group are very funny grin grin.

Instead of reacting to issues raised in publication which is very genuine, they choose ignore it.

All they could come up with is 'Give this man a chance' chance to do what?' A man who even in military circle was seen to listen to no one, could not consult etc cannot function in a democratic setting. he will be impeached or frustrated.

I am not promoting IBB but like I said in another thread, he started well. There was positive performance in the economy up until 1990 before he began to show who he was as an evil genius whatever caused that.
Why do we vote for him? people will brandish publication that has in no way countered what was said in the original one.

If this had any significant economic impact in his time or at least has  some reasonable plan now, i could at least say lets go with him. We can endure his sectional and I-am-the-saint  trait  in a good economy like the Libyans but   he is lacking in diplomacy as well as in economic strategies. These render him incompetent.

BTW what a nice speech by IBB grin

People should forget IBB in this thread.
The poster highlighted some points he made about Buhari. Are they cogent? That is what we should discuss not how IBB buried the country. Noone argues that he buried the country with burial ceremony but what he said, isn't it the Gospel about Buhari? grin

The last Federal Military Government drew up a programme with the aim of handing over political power to the civilians in 1979. This programme as you all know, was implemented to the letter. The 1979 constitution was promulgated. However, little did the military realise that the political leadership of the second republic will circumvent most of the checks and balances in the constitution and bring the present state of general insecurity. The premium on political power became so exceedingly high that political contestants regarded victory at elections as a matter of life and death struggle and were determined to capture or retain power by all means.

. . . . .

And now you the CIVILIANS want him back. All these BB supporters should all be ashamed of yourselves!!!

Recovered looted  money.

He paid off our debt

All this in just 1.5 years
