The Gargabe pusher has a brain full of garbage for the drainage. You can imagine this Igbo born Amotekun miscreant trying to compete with Lai Mohammed. |

Obere4u:Rice was selling at almost the same price in Nigeria and the US until the pandemic. Why is Rice more expensive in Nigeria, than in the UK? Besides, if Nigeria is not an hopeless contraption, $200 should not be #90000. The least earners in the US can make $200 comfortably in 3 days without working over time. Can we say the same thing about Nigeria, where earning #90,000 monthly is a luxury for most? |

Convert it to naira, you will see what God is using Buhari to do in Nigeria amidst covid-19. May PMB God will judge you posterity will remember you for this lies. A bag of rice is $35 for 50kg, some stores sells for $50, it all depends on the city you buy from |

Even if it's more than $200, they can still afford it cause their minimum wage is not 30k monthly like that of Nigeria |

Fact: Lowest minimum wage in any region in the US is $7.25 ( https://www.paycor.com/resource-center/minimum-wage-by-state ) Assumptions: Typical work-week is 40hrs/week (Very fair assumption) >> 160 hrs/ month. Lowest Monthly Salary: $7.25/ hr * 160 hrs =$1,160 $1,160 at N500/$ = N580,000. Fact: Highschool kids working in McDonalds can buy at least, 5 bags of rice before tax. Fact: In proper comparison, Nigeria graduates earning minimum wage cannot buy a bag of rice. Fact/ very legit assumption: Many Nigerian households may not even earn a combined household income of N580,000 per annum. Conclusion: Comparing apples to apples, it is possible to survive on minimum wage in the US. Although it may be challenging to live on minimum wage, there are many available jobs, therefore, even a 16-yr old can work 2 jobs at minimum wage to earn enough money to afford 10 bags of rice, before tax every month. In the case of Nigeria, a significant proportion of its population cannot afford a bag of rice a month through legitimate means, no wonder the crime rate is escalating at an alarming rate. Even a police recruit cannot buy 2 bags of rice (N52,000) with his/her N50,000 monthly salary. 1 Like |

For the sake of argument, let us imagine that someone living in Mars just visited Earth yesterday, and wanted to argue that the standard of living in Nigeria is comparable or better than that in the US. What can you do with $1,160/ month (refer to my earlier post) in the US vs. N30,000/month in Nigeria? With no considerations to tax. A poor American earning $1,160 can: The basics- Food, Shelter and clothing (basic). 1. Live in fairly decent accommodation for $400/ month (may be as low as $200 depending on comfort level). 2. They can complement their feeding through items from food banks and possibly government-issued food stamps. $150-$200 groceries/ month. 3. No one NEEDs clothing every month, but consider the fact that in colder climes, everyone NEEDs different types of clothes for different seasons. $100 4. Let me add transportation: In many cities, one can purchase a bus-pass for an average cost of $150/month, this price may be significantly cheaper in smaller cities. Total cost: 850 Savings: $360 (at least on bag of rice) In Nigeria, minimum wage of N30,000. My Nigerian analysis would be based on assumptions, but I will try to be modest and fair. 1. Accommodation: Many years ago, while in a Nigerian University and the US$ was N137 at the highest, I paid N1,500 per month for a room with pit toilet and makeshift ‘bathroom’. I will assume that that accommodation would cost at least N5,000/month today. 2. I will conservatively assume that one can feed on N400/day. N12,000/ month. https://www.nairaland.com/470445/cost-mama-put-food/1 3. Being conservative again let us assume the annual spending on clothing will work out to be N1,000 per month 4. Transportation: I will not put a definite figure here as many spend even more than N15,000/ month on this. It is clear that for many, it is impossible to survive on N30,000/ month. No wonder a 16-year old earning minimum wage in the US is more independent than the average Nigerian graduate. |

makanma: stop defending rubbish thier economy is far better than ours statically, a poor man in USA earn $60 daily which is be earns 27,000 naira daily (converted with 450 instead of 500) now do the math yourself to an average man in Nigeria The idiot the posted it does not buy those foods, it's free for him |
