You can trust His judgement without and once you realise that the penalty for the theft was death then you get to know that the Judgment DID NOT anywhere greatly outweigh the weight of the crime of theft. You seem to be mistaken consequences of committing the theft crime and lumping it together with the actual crime expressly stated not to commit.
