budaatum:Buda my love, I've been stuck in Chapter 2 of Anthills of the Savannah for months. I don't know what is wrong with me. I look back at my childhood and can't remember much except for the books. J.H Chase, Enid Blyton and books from the African Writers Series 5 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove:I used to keep a list of books I read hoping to one day read them all again but found I'd moved on from such books and could only read a few with much struggle. Perhaps see book as rafts. "A man is trapped on one side of a river. On this side of the river, there is great danger and uncertainty; on the far side is safety. But there is no bridge spanning the river, nor is there a ferry to cross over. What to do? The man gathers together logs, leaves, and creepers and by his wit fashions a raft from these materials. By lying on the raft and using his hands and feet as paddles he manages to cross the river from the dangerous side to the side of safety. https://findingyoursoul.com/2012/11/the-parable-of-the-raft/ Nothing is wrong with you. You just crossed the river and assimiliated and matured. It shows in your reasoning and writing. Try this if you haven't already. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove:Botti ke? I've never seen myself as such. Always believed where I grew up was Hell until lately when I started hearing people talk about their childhood, then I realise I actually enjoyed every bit of it. Growing up was fun. I mean we had uninterrupted power supply. What didn't I watch? Frankly I didn't miss much either. 2 Likes 1 Share |

joseph1832:You call that rough, lol. Add walking from Onipan to Ketu to save school bus fare and you'd be getting close. I once paid for half a book because I did not have enough for a whole book. The bookseller gave me a discount for the first 50 or so pages that were missing. I was so happy I got like 500 pages even though I never knew the beginning. As bad as it seems we still had people come crying to share the little we had because they had much less. I used to be angry when ma gave them my egg and coke money for their child's schoolfees or hospital bills because I'd have less for books. Funny now how my monthly budget for other peoples children's schoolfees exceeds my annual book budget. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Daddy did your father buy you a tablet when you were my age my nine years old son enquired as his tiny fingers scribbled through his newly acquired 8inch tablet, an eye brow raised and directed at me, the other awkwardly helping him scroll through his tablet. No, he did buy me a car I responded with mischievous satisfaction. A toy or real car he asked back, this time both eye staring at me with interest. A real car I responded making sure our eyes don't catch each other. Wow he mumbled with his face definitively telling of his emotions. You should get us a plane then, his five years old brother jumped into the conversation as he placed his own 7 inch tablet to its charger. LOL What can I say, life has changed. I remember my first imagination of what a tv set looked like. For some odd reason I thought it looked like a big shaving stick untill I saw one during the Mexico 86 world cup. A local chief studying in a Higher Teachers Training College in the semi town where I grew up actually had two sets. He was the only Tv owner then. During the 86 world cup he placed a small 12 inch looking tv outside, so the neighbourhood could enjoy. I was 7 years old then but can still vividly remember my first encounter with a tv set...Lol 7 Likes 1 Share |

budaatum:that's the spirit! Never give up! I'm happy things came through for you. Though I always tell people who complain about how harsh and hard life is that they're only complaining because they've not heard another person's story. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove: Aside Jagua Nana, Weep Not Child and The African Child, I read all the books here. The good'ol days when people placed value on books such as these ones. You can also add The Village Headmaster, An African Night Entertainment, and A Man of the People. My favorite though was an African Night Entertainment I enjoyed the revenge. 2 Likes 1 Share |

I have read all but two of those books. Reading has had a tremendous impact in my life and is the base on which my career as a writer stands. That said, please view and subscribe to my YouTube channel, Flipdpage. The idea is to help one and all find joy and value in reading. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove:Lol, I've seen your picture and cable TV was around before you were born. You're not old enough to pull this stunt. Who remembers when KTV and BBC shared same channel on DSTV and the dish was as big as a swimming pool? Well, your point is taken though, I've never been a fan of fiction, never will. And during this period, my siblings and I entertained ourselves with 8 bit video games and gameboy. |
