Small as in new laying birds ranges from 400 to 500
But when the egg size has appreciated it will be 550 to 600
Then average size is between 600 to 650
Jumbo is 700 to 750

Pls keep in mind all this prices are subject to ur physical egg size

khloeee. The information you have is wrong. As noted by Nwogbe, it takes between #850 - #1000 to buy & raise a DOC to laying. Therefore, you may need to adjust your projections. viktor556. Good one. What is the production today? Do endeavor to give Stresoak due to the not-so-ideal ventilation in your farm. Success.

viktor556, congratulations. You may wish to increase their daily feeds consumption to 115g/bird. I assume they are on layers mash now. Success.

They are already on 120g/bird. One more thing, when I wanted to administer LaSota, I emptied their water pipe(tip drinkers), and since you dilute 200 doses in 4 liters, the water couldn't drip cuz the volume was small. I had to improvise by pouring the vaccine in a lid and making the birds drink from it. For future purposes, and to avoid over dilution, how I get them the vaccine? Or how do you administer vaccine to your caged birds?

viktor556. I'll suggest you open the vaccine in 25% of the birds total daily water intake. 4 litres of water is obviously too little for your number of birds. Success

how do I increase egg size of my layers.they have been laying for the past 6 months.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 6:46pm On Dec 17, 2015
Judithume. At what age did they start laying? What was their average weight then? At what percentage of laying were they when you switched to layers mash?
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Judithume(f): 5:25am On Dec 18, 2015
2eggcellent,they started laying at 20 weeks, n I started introducing layer mash when they were laying 10 percent of their egg.i feed them one n half bags of top layer feed for 300 birds.I get 9 crates almost daily but most of them are not big that's my problem. they are amo isa brown

This trend is really going down from what it used to be, I've being a nairalander for over 5year(s) now.

Even though this is my first time dropping a comment on any of nairaland's forum/blog in 5year(s), I think i now found a good reason to do so...cos i was inspired, touched, and amazed for the selfless services being rendered here by well meaning nigerian(s) especially in this thread, and for once in my lifetime i feel so proud being a nigerian.

However, let me say I've duly followed this trend for some months now, and I've giving it time to read from page 1 - 182 and seriously, i never got tired.

Let me quickly pay tribute to so many but few of the folks whom have contributed to this informative and empowering thread, even though some of them no longer visits the thread "reasons best known to them".

@Hindsight started it all and disappeared in the middle of everything, lol

@Basking4me took over the charge and made arguably the best contribution with loads of pictures and a lab chat to further enlighten people of a need have a vet doctor or an experienced farmer by your side when venturing into the poultry sector.

@Davidzfarm
@Walllexxx
@FNK
@Ade101
At a point in time all made their contributions.

Let respect be given to whom it is due, @Eggcellent in recent time has been the reason why this thread is still alive, he has well beyond reasonable doubt filled the vacuum being left by @Basking4me, plus he's always on time when called upon.

Presently doing my masters degree in the ekiti-state university, wouldn't have enough time to cater for those birds even if i had chosen to give it a shot, but i'll try snap out of the little time i have and see how far it goes,

Keep it locked down guys, may god bless us all
God bless africa. God bless nigeria
Merry xmas and a happy fulfilling 2016 in advance.

Ayostically. Lab test is the surest way to determine that. However, if there is no vaccine failure, 6 weeks & 4 weeks intervals during rainy & dry/hot seasons respectively are suggested, please.

Excess protein will be excreted and it will increase ammonia pollution. The birds will grow unhealthy.

if they are layers, many of them will die of too much fat. Too much protein will result to accumulation of fat. Egg production will be an issue at a point...
