Good. Supposing what you said here is true, would you feel comfortable any of them holding a position in this country in the future?
Would the north feel comfortable any of them holding a position in this country in the future?
What about the Muslims, would they feel comfortable or would they dig up this past and kick against such person?
Would they say it what said in the past and let the past remain in the past or they would feel uncomfortable someone with such extremist views heading a public position??

Nigeria's presidency says it "stands behind" an embattled minister facing calls for his resignation after extreme Islamist views he held in the past recently came to light.

Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy, and also a renowned Muslim cleric, expressed views sympathetic to groups such as al-Qaeda and Boko Haram.

In one sermon from the 2000s he said he considered al-Qaeda founder, Osama Bin Laden, a better Muslim than himself, and in another, he said he was happy when infidels were massacred.

Recordings of him expressing these views began circulating on social media last week, leading to calls for his resignation or sacking by President Muhammadu Buhari.

But in its first reaction since the saga began, presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said the minister was being "subject[ed] to a 'cancel campaign'".

"In the 2000s, the minister was a man in his twenties; next year he will be 50. Time has passed, and people and their opinions - often rightly - change", the statement said.

The minister also attempted to renounce his past views at the weekend, telling a local newspaper that some of the comments were based on his "understanding of religious issues at the time" and that he has changed several positions "based on new evidence and maturity".

But that has not stopped calls for his sacking or resignation with many using the #PantamiMustGo hashtag on Twitter to express concerns over his access to sensitive data as the minister of communications.

He has also been defended under the #PantamiMustStay hashtag as the issue exposed the religious and ethnic lines in this multi-ethnic country.

What exactly did Mr Pantami say?
There has been a steady stream of new evidence of the views he held in the past and the latest are documents that appeared online on Wednesday.

The documents are purportedly from a 2010 meeting he chaired at the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), a top Islamic body, where it was agreed that Christians should be prohibited from building churches in city centres across northern Nigeria, which has a majority Muslim population although millions of Christians also live there.

Audio and video recordings have also emerged of Mr Pantami's fiery prayers and sermons at different stages of his career as an imam. In one sermon after there had been a deadly religious conflict and tensions were still high in Shendam, Plateau state, he volunteered to lead Muslims back to their homes, saying that he was willing to die in the process.

In a 2006 speech, Mr Pantami publicly offered his condolences after the death of al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

In one audio clip, where he talks about the Nigerian army's war against Boko Haram, he appears to be on the verge of tears as he passionately describes the militants as "our Muslim brothers" who did not deserve to be "killed like pigs".

In another audio recording, he declares he is always happy when infidels are massacred.

He has not denied the authenticity of these texts, audio and video clips.

What did the government say?
Nigerians had been waiting for a reaction from the government and it came via a presidential spokesman on Thursday.

Garba Shehu, who speaks for President Buhari, said the administration "stands behind Minister Pantami."

"The Minister has, rightly, apologized for what he said in the early 2000s. The views were absolutely unacceptable then, and would be equally unacceptable today, were he to repeat them," he said in a statement which he also shared on his Twitter account:

But critics have pointed out that the minister was already in his 30s when most of his controversial statements were made and so, was fully aware of the ramifications.

The opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) tried to debate Mr Pantami's views in the House of Representatives on Wednesday but it was blocked by the ruling party.

Why are these views just coming to light?
It began as a rumour last week when a local newspaper reported that Mr Pantami had been placed on a US watch list for his alleged links to terrorism.

There has been no confirmation from the US and Mr Pantami threatened to sue the newspaper and others that carried the reports, leading to a retraction and an apology.

But since then a series of audio and video clips of Mr Pantami making inflammatory comments have been posted on social media.

There has also been extensive reports by Nigerian online newspaper Peoples Gazette.

An old Wikileaks document citing a US diplomatic cable of Mr Pantami being thrown out of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi state, and from a mosque in Gombe for preaching inflammatory rhetoric, have also been re-circulated.

There was also social media posts about his time at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University where Mr Pantami, as cleric of a local mosque, was accused of instigating the gruesome murder of a Christian student leader who preached on the campus.

Mr Pantami has denied these accusations and also said that he was never dismissed from the university.

He told local newspaper, Premium Times, that people opposed to the introduction of a compulsory national identification number, which would be needed to get a mobile phone number, were the ones attacking him.

Who is Isa Pantami?
*The 48-year-old is currently Nigeria's Minister of Communications and Digital Economy

*Was formerly head of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)

*From Gombe state in north-eastern Nigeria where he began his education at the Quranic Tsangaya schools popularly known as almajiri

*Obtained a PhD from Robert Gordon University, Scotland but was also schooled in Saudi Arabia

*He is chief Imam at the popular Al Mannar mosque in Abuja where he still leads annual teachings during the Ramadan fast.

Why are some Nigerians so worried about Pantami?
As head of the communications ministry, he oversees agencies responsible for databases of Nigerians and expatriates in the country.

Some people have expressed concerns that a minister with past sympathy for Islamist militant groups has access to such critical data.

Mr Pantami also oversees the web infrastructure for most government ministries and agencies, armed forces, intelligence agencies, and Nigeria's satellite infrastructure that provides communications and navigation support for the air force.

The backlash he is facing seems to be largely on social media.

Offline, ordinary Nigerians are less concerned about the minister's past views and he has received support from Muslim groups in the north, many of whom do not share his past extreme views but say his apology is proof he is a changed man.
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is alive. He will expose all you Muslim killers. Now that BBC has taking it up, the videos are there as evidences, great. The US and NATO will keep watch on him. Garba Shehu's tweet is also there and he is on the watch also. They are both same. If Shehu can defend that ter.rorist, he is a terr.orist too. Now, we are getting somewhere. Like Deji Adeyanju has said, Pantami cannot enter the US, UK, and many other western countries again. Let him relocate to Iran and continue his terrorism there. But I assure him that the bomb which will scatter him to pieces is in reserve.

Everytime we keep hearing bandits, boko haram, kidnappers..this... that.. they are the ones behind it. All muslims fanatics are the same. Run far away from Islam. When that jihad starts, they will kill you. They're killers.

Pantami must resign.

Left to Pantami, he would have resigned (he never wanted to be a Nigerian minister anyway) but he was convinced by the northerners who know he is capable, to the detriment/resentment of inconsequential beings.

In case you all don't know, the Northerners love Pantami now more than Buhari so it's easier for Buhari to resign/get impeached than Pantami resigning or getting sacked. Una go cry tire.

You are clearly displaying primitive loyalty, if you had any drop of truth left in you, you would admit that the position pantamin occupies is too sensitive for anyone who had said but a pinch of what he had said.

The killings and invasion happening simultaneously across the whole of Nigeria are too systematic to escape notice.

Gov Ortom was nearly assassinated the other day by some of these marauding beasts. They seem to have backing in the corridors of power. No wonder Gov Ortom called one of the current governors from one region like that a terrorist.

If people do not quickly develop their thinking and evolve very fast, their tribe and lineage will be ethnically cleansed to a bare minimum that will fade away fast in a handful of generations. I feel particularly sorry for tribes like the Adara, indigenous to Plateau. I also am sceptical of the resistive power of the Biroms and Tivs in Benue. They will finally be overrun.

The oars largely rest on the Igbos, the Yorubas and maybe the Ijaws to save the remnant of the populations from this onslaught. If these 3 tribes should fail to fill in this gaping hole and sacrifice all they can, then shame on them.
finally d eternal zombie is redeemed! zombies don dey get sense. 1daful!!

Whatever ever he said then was done deliberately and also have a place in Quran to back it up. Is like you saying a university lecturer did not control his mouth while he was lecturing.

He is trying to denied those things because he is still in authority, and had a mission. that's is if he have even denied them.

I will just brief you one of their statements which says; "they (Muslims) are too many in Nigeria. We must liberate Nigeria from Islam to christianity before the year 2000".

They were funded by Western countries to end Islam in Nigeria the 90s. This is what prompted North to establish sharia (even though their Sharia is not ISLAMIC but political). It was the implementation of Sharia that impeded growth of christianity in the northern part of the country. Up till today, christian leaders in Nigeria are still getting financial support and logistics from the West to spread their religion. Hence, we must question BH issue. This is why media in Nigeria right now is occupied by mostly christians. So they must report whatever is in their best interest.

BBC rarely takes sides on issues.

I can still remember a BBC female Reporter asking then governor of Zamfara state, Sani Yerima, if Yerima didn’t understand that the Sharia Criminal Justice System he brought to Nigeria which the political and religious leaders of the 12 northern sharia states adopted in 2001, would not lead to break up of Nigeria.

Boko Haram emerged shortly after this, and says it’s fighting for a country to be governed with Islamic Sharia criminal justice system.

BBC is ever alert on Nigeria’s affairs, perhaps more than many Nigerian journalists.

Wow... this is serious

But then it takes me back to my question, supposing the fellow that made that statement comes to hold the position of isa pantomime, do you think the north, the Muslims of this country would be comfortable or would they call for the resignation of such a fellow?

What if the Christians of the country get behind such a bigoted fellow seeing no wrong or saying statement was made in the past and he’s repented. would you think they were being reasonable, would such an excuse be accepted by the north and the Muslims??

That reminds me, during the last general elections, Gov El-Ruffai brought up an issue that happened in the past against Peter Obi and why he wasn’t fit to be elected to hold office in the country. Do you remember something like that?

The hurriedness with which pantami was demanding people register and link their sim even in the heat of covid19 without sympathy or concern for lives was too suspicious if u ask me.

Linking sim is more important than people’s health concerns and risks in a raging pandemic

Now he has a questionable past that cud pose a security risk? I’m just wondering what these people are really up to because I’m sure this is not a coincidence.

It’s either for a very good reason or a very bad one.

Kuginzi:
"What THEY And TERRORISTS Have Against PANTAMI

By Professor MICHAEL OGUEKE

Last year, after extensive research into Boko Haram’s activities & online presence by experts including Bulama Burkati, it was discovered how Boko Haram uses highly encrypted messaging platforms such as WhatsApp & Telegram to communicate and coordinate.
In addition, ISWAP uses such apps to communicate with ISIS. For instance, when ISWAP launches an attack, it uses Telegram to send pictures and videos to ISIS. ISIS would edit the material, put ISWAP logo, subtitle (where relevant), etc, and release it through its channels.
Similarly, Boko Haram uses Telegram and WhatsApp to send photos and clips of its attack and execution to its contacts who then post/tweet them and give them to media outlets. They also use the platforms to communicate with fighters and coordinate activities including attacks.
It was therefore agreed that since most messaging apps require a mobile number to subscribe or register, if ownership of lines is restricted, it will seriously undermine Boko Haram’s ability to exploit technology, and hamper the effectiveness of the terrorists.
In the light of this discovery, the minister of communication Pantami - early last year, 2020 came up with the proposal to the FG for all bank accounts, passports, GSM numbers to be linked to NIN & for Telecom companies to be given a strict deadline to restrict registerable SIMs to three (or less) per person & to deactivate all unregistered ones & those who breach the directive should be heavily fined by the NCC.
The first to react to this proposed policy was Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Bokoharam. He felt so rattled & threatened by this proposed policy by the communication mimister - Pantami which has the obvious potential of hitting his group hard & smashing his activities.
It was no surprise then, when on 13th February, 2020, Shekau - the leader of Boko haram released a video asking his members to kill the communication minister, Isa Pantami.
These were the exact words of Shekau in the video & I quote:
“This video message is specifically released because of one man, who thinks he is knowledgeable. I want him to archive this message and continue referring to it till his death comes. From today onward, you will continue to live in sorrow, because I, Shekau, say so.
"This warning is for Isa Ali Panatami; don’t think simply because you preach in English or because you are called a doctor, it means you have knowledge of Islam. You know nothing. Today you have become a minister, and you are feeling you can achieve your selfish ends. You must know that speaking English has nothing to do with Islam.
"You said you are going to block phone lines and other means of communication, to frustrate the activities of Boko Haram, right? But you must understand that we don’t depend on such to take out our messages. Our messengers are like the angels of God. How dare you attempt to stop the works we are doing for the creator of the heavens and earth, simply because you have become a slave to the white world and the country. We pity you if you don’t repent.
"I swear to God, you are nothing. Initially, we have not begrudged with you, but now you have become a slave to the infidels; repent now and become a good Muslim. If you don’t comply from now on, death will come to you, Isa Ali Pantami. I call on my members in Africa, in Nigeria to rise and do the needful. Let them know that what we did to Sheik Jafar is just the tip of the iceberg. Anywhere you see Isa Ali Pantami, don’t spare him. Isa Ali Pantami you are nothing; even Jafar tried the same thing but we dealt with him; talk less of you that is nothing in Islamic practice. And from today on, you would not have rest of mind because you have dared God...”
As the communication minister - Pantami has called the bluff of the terrorists & has gone ahead this year, 2021 with the implementation of the proposed policies of restricting the number of SIMs per individual, linking them with other personal data to NIN & the FG's recent announcement of naming those who through investigations using this policy are involved in terrorism in Nigeria, the enemies of Nigeria & Shekau has now resorted to their proven tactics of whipping their hysterical mob of self righteous social media terrorists masquerading as our moral compasses & objective critics to goad Pantami into resigning. Exactly the same way they did our arguably best minister of finance for an offence that is no fault of hers & which was never brought to the public for 4 years she was Ogun state commissioner of finance, cleared by DSS to be a minister & for 3 years she was finance minister not until she refused to help the enemies of Nigeria led by then Ogun governor - Amosun & then Senate President - Saraki to loot the federal treasury & destabilize the APC government on the eve of 2019 elections.
The DSS cleared Pantami for this job. They knew of his rhetorics 20 years ago as a young firebrand scholar. They equally know of his brilliance, qualifications, experience, capabilities & abilities which earned him his present job as minister of communication & he has not dissapointed since he was appointed a minister.
Let Pantami be & do not join or help the terrorists, sponsored by the conscienceless enemies of our nation who raped us into coma & pillaged our resources for 16 uninterrupted years, to rob us of another wonderful brain in this our sustained march to development & progressivism under Mai Gaskiya.
Enough said already!!"

More of a fabricated tale to derail logical minds.

I

Wow... this is serious

But then it takes me back to my question, supposing the fellow that made that statement comes to hold the position of isa pantomime, do you think the north, the Muslims of this country would be comfortable or would they call for the resignation of such a fellow?

What if the Christians of the country get behind such a bigoted fellow seeing no wrong or saying statement was made in the past and he’s repented. would you think they were being reasonable, would such an excuse be accepted by the north and the Muslims??
bros, there were several high profile cases like this already but they were buried from the masses. Anyways I have answered your question but it looks like you didn't get it.

Let me just be very clear. Isa Pantami should resign or suspended if such allegation was brought up. This is standard protocol until security agency clears him. So this is what I read few days ago that he was already cleared by DSS and other agencies in the country. So if agencies already cleared him, what's all the noise about?.

So again, there are several incidents concerning christians involved in some sort of fraudulent activities but muslims let them be because muslims are far more tolerant. Please don't ask me for examples. But I should give you one. During GEJ administration, he and his cabinet worked with israel to sell or share data of Nigerian citizens with Israeli intelligence agencies. By law, in a sane country this is treason punishable by death. Was GEJ and many of his christians and even some muslim cabinet scrutinized?. No. And I believe you understand the risks of sharing your citizens data to foreign country.

That reminds me, during the last general elections, Gov El-Ruffai brought up an issue that happened in the past against Peter Obi and why he wasn’t fit to be elected to hold office in the country. Do you remember something like that?
to be honest with you I have no memory of this at all. But again, religion and hypocrisy destroyed the country.

There are more I can tell you that put Nigeria in this situation since the 70s by christians (CAN). Their jealousy for Islam is killing the country. But allow me to stop here. I already posted some in a thread about Isa Pantami. If I can locate the thread I will call your attention to it. What you are seeing today didn't start today.

Today is only reflection of the past, and we are just getting started.

Emu4life:
All this epistles upon epistles is useless. Dr. Sheikh Ali Isah Pantami is going nowhere. He remains the Nigerian Minister of Communication and digital economy till 2023. He is not a terrorist and will therefore not resign. Those perverts, drunkards, prostitutes, pork/dog eaters, cannibals and confusionists who felt threatened by his pedigree ab initio should know that they can only do to Pantami what a dog can do to a LION.

So the qualification to be liked by the North is to be an extremist?

Backward people.
