jabberjawz:
Just to encourage folks here, do not limit yourselves to open positions in Nigeria, try to apply for international postings.......am a living testimony, I never knew anybody in the UN, I was just a young curious individual who was looking to push myself beyond my limits (immediate environment). I started applying for roles both local & international, and I landed my first UN interview with the UN Military logistics base in Italy. I got to the final stage of the interview but I got knocked out (I under-estimated the caliber of people I was competing with). It really hurt me, but I dusted myself, reflected on areas where I thought I fell short, re-packaged my cv & started applying again.

After sending out many applications, the next year I got invited for another interview with another UN agency, this time I went ballistic with my preparations, did a lot of research/readings, asking questions, creating scenarios, penned out over 100 or more possible questions to expect in the test & interview. With God's help, boom I landed the international offer, infact I received 2 job offers on the same day (USAID & UN) I eventually accepted the UN offer. I never knew anyone in the UN or USAID system, never studied abroad, I studied & lived all my life in Naija until I left to resume with the UN.

In summary, do not believe those that keep saying you need to have God father somewhere or this or that...........the only God father is the father in heaven who opens a door that no man can close.

I decided to share my story just to inspire folks that you can do it, keep pushing, keep applying, keep researching/reading, keep learning new things to add to your resume, research current trends in your field & try to update your skills, don't give up.................and don't forget the "God Factor"

Peace..... smiley

Thanks so much for this. Something happened yesterday which made me believe that God is about to pick someone's call through this thread. It is only a matter of time and dedication
