Yves4real: You definitely earned the pass mark while Nigeria is called basket of fools. Most Nigerian are intellectually lazy and unfit to do rudimentary research. Biafran troops which through Midwestern region of Nigeria was not up a brigade therefore could not be up to 3,000 troops as stated in the silly write up you foolishly posted as source of your knowledge. Besides Midwestern region was an integral part of Nigeria that had attacked Biafria on July 6, 1967. The military governor of Midwestern region of Nigeria had on August 4, 1967 on Radio Nigeria, Benin City, proclaimed his region supported Gowon and Nigeria on the police action in eastern region. 1 Like 1 Share |

JustASeer:Lol... And you think the South South will be foolish enough to join either Oduduwa or Biafra... Note: I have nothing against these two ( Oduduwa and Biafra) I wish Biafra will understand that the people of South South actually sympathize with them... Infact many of us have ties with Igbos... But they should get it clear.... South-South will rather stay alone as Niger Delta Republic... Than to foolishly join Biafra or Oduduwa and suffer the same Fate the Igbos suffered in Nigeria... Although it's better for Nigeria to be One but it's better for the country to split than go into another Civil War.... Tinubuadvocate: Actually it has nothing to do with the way he handled it, the problem was that he was ahead of his time, his generation including gowon were deceived by Britain, and therefore didn't see what he was seeing, and the reason he was asking for restructuring in the form of confederation. they therefore misinterpreted his motive, but today we now know why he wanted out from the caliphate controlled nigger area. |

Igboid: The federal troops also carried out those crimes in Agbor, do you also want to accuse Bini of this? When the federal troops came in, there was little or nothing the locals could do, were you expecting them to engage a fully armed troops from the federal angle? Even the Ogbemudie that led the Bini guerilla tigers also had Anioma link, so how could Bini commit such a crime against one of their own? Nope. The problem Midwesterners of non Igbo origin had with Ojukwu had more to do with Ojukwu removing Ejoor and not replacing him with another non Igbo Midwesterner. They claimed Anioma people went about boasting to them that they are now in charge of the region after Okonkwo was appointed by Ojukwu, and they became filled with resentment towards Anioma people and Easterners. NCNC's involvement in the Creation of midWest region was to weaken the then AG, it was a give and take situation between the minorities in the western region and the NCNC group in the eastern region. The division was only possible because of the total compliance of all ethnic groups, but in the case of the 1967 event, the minorities wanted non of that and it was arrogant to impose a leader on them. It had nothing to do with the origin of Okonkwo. During the Midwest invasion, some positions were allotted to some minorities, but that didn't change the perception of the minorities who saw it as an attempt to subdue and coerce them into an indirect rule of the eastern region. It was simply interest clashing and sadly, nothing has changed till this very moment. And nope. Bini people are intent on ressurecting their Bini Empire and that involves annexing Anioma. The Bini empire is long gone and dead, no Delta group in modern age will let an Oba rule over them. Like I've hinted, Bini is fast losing its grip on these non-edoid group in Delta state. It's not business as usual. |

DerideGull:Source: Wikipedia. Pre-War Events Nigerian military districts at the time of the civil war Following the 1966 Nigerian coup d'état and the subsequent 1966 Nigerian counter-coup, a wave of resentment and hostility against Igbos because of their involvement in the former coup culminated in the 1966 anti-Igbo pogrom in which 30,000 Igbos and easterners have been estimated to have been killed. Following the erosion of military discipline and trust caused by the killings, a new regional military structure was formed with Military districts in the four regions (Northern, Western, Mid-Western, and Eastern) of the country. However, this raised problems as the ethnic structure of the Mid-Western military was heavily lopsided towards the Midwestern Igbos, who not only made up a sizable portion of troops, but over 75% of the 42 Mid-western officers were Igbo.[4] In an attempt to prevent abuse of power, Ejoor refused to allow a group consisting of Yon DaKolo and Lt. Col. Mike Okwechime from importing weapons, instead choosing to ask the federal government for weapons directly, of which they sent a small amount of Mark V rifles for the 300 soldiers in the area. This, along with the lack of effort to raise any new troops left the Mid-Western region in an incapacitated state by the time the Biafrans invaded in 1967.[5] At the September 1966 constitutional conference for the future of the country, the Midwest was the only region in favor of a strong federation. Seeing that the oil, cocoa and palm oil rich region would quickly find itself a target of expansionist leanings by its larger, more powerful and consolidated neighbors. This was disagreed upon by many Midwestern Igbo officers, who believed the confederate and secessionist proposals by the other regions were a better approach to the issue, but this was dismissed by Ejoor and his cabinet. Further negotiations were held in Aburi and Benin. Even so, differences in the interpretation in these accords led to an even greater divide between Ojukwu and the Federal Government, later leading to Biafra's declaration of independence on May 30, 1967. Post-war Events During a June 7 military conference in Lagos following the Biafran declaration of independence, Ejoor was told "Midwestern State will be kept free from active operations unless where necessary, but the border between the Eastern States and the Midwest will be completely sealed off."[6] Later in a speech in Asaba, Ejoor reiterated that the midwest would not be sucked into a war between the East and the North. This was followed by a redeployment of Federal troops away from Okene. By the time of the start of the invasion, there was only a token force of 300 troops in the entire Mid-Western military command. After Nsukka fell to the Nigerian Army on July 14 during Operation UNICORD, President Odumegwu Ojukwu knew that the Nigerian Army would next set their sights on the Biafran capital of Enugu. After a mission to recapture Nsukka on July 30 failed and resulted in death of Major Kaduna Nzeogwu, Ojukwu began drawing up plans for an invasion of Nigeria's Mid-Western Region in an attempt to divert attention away from Enugu, as well as to perhaps bring a quick end to the war. In Ojukwu's words: "Our motive was not territorial ambition or the desire of conquest. We went into the Midwest purely in an effort to seize the serpent by the head; every other activity in that Republic was subordinated to that single aim. We were going to Lagos to seize the villain Gowon, and we took necessary military precautions. post=102333671:The margin was huge because Azikiwe was the slimy devil who manipulated the minorities towards his Agenda. While Midwest was being carved out, Awolowo, the leader of Western region and Enahoro, the leader of the Western minorities were in jail, so it became much easier for Zik to use both his Media propaganda and Federal might to influence the minorities. -Osu amaka 1 Like |

Efewestern: That's the problem with you minorities. Every single help Igbos render you lots is never appreciated or taken at face value, it's usually twisted to sell your Igbophobic Agenda. Even as we speak, Ijaws are already saying that Igbo support of GEJ was not about supporting SS but more about Igbo hate for Buhari and what Igbos gained from GEJ. When I asked them for GEJ projects in SE, they couldn't mention any. In comparison, for two times Zik competed for presidency in 1979 and 1983. He never got up to 10% of votes from minorities, even Awolowo got more from Old Rivers, old Cross River and Bendel States than Zik did. And no one needs any soothsayer to know that if an Igbo presidential candidate emerge today, he will still get same Zik treatment from minorities. It goes without saying that the Igbo MUST re-evaluate the way and manner we relate with southern minorities. Back to the Midwest referendum. Eastern region threw weight behind it mainly because of Anioma people led by Dennis Osadebey who were staunch NCNC members and were pushing for it. There was Okotie too who was in NCNC and was pushing for it as well. Weakening Western region was an added incentive but not the main driving Force. It's always been this way with you lots. So it's not the North imposing rulers on Anioma people when they watched Osadebey who was rightful democratic ruler of the region deposed for Ejoor a military imposition? Did the non Igbos resent Ejoor imposition as Northern imposition? They didn't because it doesn't matter who was imposing who, they were more interested in who was imposed. That's the way I see it anyway. BTW, I like the maturity in your replies. Thanks for that. 3 Likes |

Interesting thread, the op's purpose of opening such a thread is suspect. I got disappointed reading his silly points.. Eg ; like schooling in a region or even living in that region means that the people would prefer a country with their foreign accommodators than with their kins lol. However I ended up learning a lot from the contributors, so much knowledge in here (though some are false) I like the way the Aniomas defended their Igbo heritage and how the S.Eastern guys stood their grounds. Then I like the way Efewestern argued intelligently and unbiasedly (don't know how factual some of his postulations are though) and not sounding Igbophobic. 3 Likes |
