How the rating is calculated

The liveability score is reached through category weights, which are divided equally into relevant subcategories to ensure that the score covers as many indicators as possible.

Indicators are scored as acceptable, tolerable, uncomfortable, undesirable or intolerable. These are then weighted to produce a rating, where 100 indicates that liveability in a city is ideal and 1 means that it is intolerable.

For qualitative variables, an “EIU rating” is awarded based on the judgment of in-house expert geography analysts and a field correspondent based in each city. For quantitative variables, a rating is calculated based on the relative performance of a location using external data.

CATEGORY 1: Stability (25% of total)

Indicator

Prevalence of petty crime
Prevalence of violent crime
Threat of terror
Threat of military conflict
Threat of civil unrest/conflict

CATEGORY 2: Healthcare (20% of total)

Indicator

Availability of private healthcare
Quality of private healthcare
Availability of public healthcare
Quality of public healthcare
Availability of over-the-counter drugs
General healthcare indicators (Adapted from World Bank)

CATEGORY 3: Culture & Environment (weight: 25% of total)

Indicator

Discomfort of climate for travellers
Level of corruption (Adapted from Transparency International)
Social or religious restrictions
Level of censorship
Sporting availability (EIU field rating of 3 sport indicators)
Cultural availability (EIU field rating of 4 cultural indicators)
Food and drink (EIU field rating of 4 cultural indicators)
Consumer goods & services (EIU rating of product availability)

CATEGORY 4: Education (weight: 10% of total)

Indicator

Availability of private education EIU rating
Quality of private education EIU rating
Public education indicators (Adapted from World Bank)

CATEGORY 5: Infrastructure (weight: 20% of total)

They're right with their report, Lagos cost of living is high and the standard of living is low while oyo town standard of living is high and the cost of living is low. A lot of people will not understand this cos they think Lagos is the only town you can make money and be successful. Life expectancy in Lagos is low, a man in the village, eating fresh fruits, vegetables, farming or teaching, breathing in fresh air, not in traffic for hours not spending exorbitantly high on his daily needs will leave to 100 years and pass on in peace.

But they're right. It's stressful living here. With all the money generated in taxes , the rate of development is not commensurate. Its like at the speed of a snail. Such is expected when you have a thug turned leader who doesn't know anything else than breed thugs and acquire private jets.

I've been to virtually all the best livable cities mentioned , except Auckland, Melbourne and Brisbane. No single person owns a private jet in Geneve. The cities of Veyvey, Montreal, Lusan, etc in Switzerland are far better than our Lagos. We can achieve these statuses too provided we can produce a leader who could block all the channels through which Jagaban and his cohorts pilfer our resources

Sir, I have read with avid interest some of your posts here. The penultimate one I read was where you talked about how you started small with your wife about 20 years ago and went on to achieve your goals, even dining with a certain former US president. Your posts are intelligent and a good inspiration. And for someone who has travelled far and wide and seen it all, there must be a thing or two I can glean from your experience.

I would appreciate any suggestion or assistance you can render in also helping me achieve some of mine. If you don't mind, I can send a mail.

Thank you.

#Do u know After the endSars protest, Sars ended and police harassment of yung guys reduced drastically
#Do u also noticed after the protest there have been less report of yung guys hitting FP that die due to police extortion n extra judicial killings??

Just incase anyone come to tell u Endsars protest achieved nothing, u can decide for urself if it's true or not. Well another Nationwide protest more massive than Endsars is coming June 12? And if you are comfortable n feel very secure in Nigeria, living very fine of ur dreams stay at home BUT if you're tired like me together let's hit the street on June 12 and tell Buhari #We are tired
End sars was a timely protest much needed at that moment, but as usual nigerian youths lost the aim and the plot by allowing wrong people infiltrate them,no protest will work in nigeria if the youths are not ready to fight touts, armed robbers and criminals who masquerade as protesters and use such occasions fr destruction and all types of evil.just as police brutality reduced, crime, rape and all other vices escalated... Go figure...

Eg, crap like “humidity” or “general discomfort” merely reflect inherent Oyinbo bias.

If u said that "development is a process", then are agreeing with d report& acknowledging it's correctness. U are acknowledging that Lagos isn't developed which is what d report with d indices it used has said.

If u say d report is "a useful index for an Oyinbo traveler…", does that in anyway negate it's validity?
