Your choice should be dependent on how familiar you are to the state and the clout strength you have in such state.

Howbeit ill suggest you consider earning via online and if you don't have a skill set you can monetize online try learn one.

In another news if you have access to internet + browsing gadgets and you are yet earning via online then it's your own undoing (Fault) cos there are thousands of ease2access activities online to legitimately earn @least $5 daily from.

I'm a graduate from one of the south west university in Nigeria, and i spend all my life in Lagos state , and also a yoruba guy from Lagos State.

But due to the rising and unavailability of good jobs around, i have been thinking of moving over to the North for greener pasture, i want to leave my comfort zone.

So, two states are on my mind, plateau state or gombe.

I really want input of individuals on this issues:

Cost of living

Availability of jobs

Security

Acceptability of strangers, and many more.

Which state do you guys think is ok, I'm really in need of a good job.

I will really appreciate this topic to be in frontpage so as to reach wider audience.

I left Gombe and moved to Jos early this year. Having spent the better part of my adult life in Gombe, I thought a change of environment would do me good. I was wrong.

I never thought I'd ever say Gombe is better than Jos in some aspects. One thing you should know about both states is that there are NO jobs. Let this vital information sink in before you make any move. The only jobs you can get in both states with relative ease are teaching jobs. Teachers earn more Gombe than Jos. I never would have believed this if someone had told me. After all, Plateau state is more educationally advanced than Gombe, so I thought teaching jobs would pay more in Jos, Plateau.

If you want to run a business, please, go to Gombe state. But try to get an accommodation in a Christian dominated area like Tunfure if you are a Christian. Avoid Muslim areas. If you are a Yoruba Muslim, you'd be welcomed with open arms in Christian areas.

Jos isn't what I expected so I am planning on relocating to Benin, Edo state. I'll keep moving until I find a place that will favor me.

The only advantage Jos has over Gombe is that if you understand English, you won't have to learn Hausa to overcome language barrier. Almost everyone in Jos speaks good English. I know southerners who have lived in Jos for decades and they didn't learn Hausa because they realized they didn't have to. In Gombe, you are on your own if you can't speak Hausa. Even people who speak very good English prefer to communicate in Hausa.

Gombe is a very local place. If you are used to living in a civilized place, please, don't move to Gombe.

OP did i just hear you say good job in Plateau or Gombe state? There is only one good company in Jos, Nasco pays graduates 40k others are Swan paint pays lower than Nasco, in Gombe there is only Ashaka cement, they don't mostly have vacanies. There are no jobs in the North not to talk of good jobs, i will advice you to stay in Lagos or move to other southern states if you have free accomodation, but if you are hell bent on moving to North, then move Jos and do small business but be careful, Jos is home to religious crisis.

Powersurge:
Why will somebody leaves the entire south that contributes nearly 80% of the country's GDP and wants to move north? Life na per head sha.

I lived in Plataeu for one year. I moved from Jos to Magu to Panshin to Shendam etc. Plateau is as barren a land as Somalia. Most bank staff were employed from south and transfered there. The commonest job is school teacher. Insecurity has made farming unattractive. Jos always experience major crisis that takes tens, sometimes hundreds of lives at least once in five years. Jos South and Jos north are natural enemy. Berom people (the owner of Jos) are always slaughtered by Fulanis. Shendam is not exempted from violence. There was major carnage in Yelwa some years ago (that is the place Pantamj was recorded saying he would send jihadists to to slaughter people) . It is still brewing.

Magu, Panshin, Jos, the cold in these places could take your life if you have health problems or are not used to extreme weather change.

Cost of living is relatively low. I saw a 2-bedroom flat in Shendam for 50k. Goats, yams are very cheap. You can buy and come and sell down south. THERE IS NO FROZEN FOOD THE ENTIRE SHENDAM LG. likewise many other LG. you could look into such business. No difference between indigenous Plataeu and Southerners. They love flexing like us.

Note: indigenes Plateau people are peaceful and reasonable people.

If you like flexing, don't relocate to core north. There Sharia is a problem. Your neighbor might be spying on you, the day trouble starts, you will be first he would come for. I went to Kano, as relatively "civilized" as Kano is, I had problem. To enter keke with the opposite sex na wahala. Imagine for a moment places like Zamfara.
Good analysis.

Any Southerner that is still residing in the North that is full of sorrow, tears and blood, such a Southerner is being chased by his/her family evil gods and such a Southerner will end up in bandits camp with no one to help him/her. Even Buhari's wife has run away from the North, yet a supposed Yoruba boy is thinking about going to pay a visit to bandits.

Hi bro,
Your courage of moving from your Location which is Lagos State to Gombe/Plateau State.

I will be frank with you, please and please stay back in lagos state and look for something to do here either small business or white-collar job I wish you all the best.

I want to thank a brother that gives little details about Jos in terms of security aspects and other details.

Let me share my experience with you about Gombe!!
September will be exactly 2years I have been going to Gombe for my Secondary assignment, Job opportunity in Gombe is out of it for now.

Is only if you are going there to work as a sales rep or work in a hotel.

For me Job opportunity is 20 per cent, only if you know someone that is working in Government then work is certain for you, without that forget it thanks.

Gombe is developing gradually.

Forget all diz fear people de put for your head.. I was born in Lagos and did my primary and secondary school there. Av lived in Uyo, Calabar but I relocated to Jos to look for work. I was immediately selected for a job I applied for. I was paid 40k but I was living better than someone on 150k in Lagos. I was later employed by an NGO in Benue and I got paid 120k as basic salary, other allowances not included. Na there my life change. I could order goods in Lagos and sell to people in jos or markudi. People would contact me to get cars for them.
Who I even be for Lag wai hustlers full everywhere.
I became like a king in the North as people loved my smartness wai others de call me ajebo when I dai Lag.
You can give it a try. Naturally, when people from jos hear you are from Lag, the will want to do business with you cos they take it u ar smart. There are lots of yorubas and Igbos in jos.

Borno is greener
Re: Plateau Or Gombe State? by Babsolala: 3:02pm On Jun 13, 2021
The two states that you have mentioned are both predominantly civil servant towns.
For Plateau State (Jos):
Pros:
*Very friendly people,

*Availability of food (tubers, grains, vegetables) and these are far cheaper than what you get downsouth,

*Accommodation is far cheaper than it is down south (you can get very clean two bedroom apartment with POP ceiling, tiled floors and built-in wardrobes in choice areas from around 350k or even 300k if you are lucky), 90k upwards will get you very good self-con dependent on the area.

*Power supply is really good in a number of areas,

*Transportation is cheap,

*Hardly experience traffic holdups.

*And I must add that Jos is mostly peaceful (the insecurity here is mostly exaggerated online). There is no Sharia law practiced here (Jos is predominantly occupied by Christians, and governed by same).

*If you drink and moderately love to socialize, there are way too many bars and fish/chicken/meat joints scattered all over town.

Cons:
*Apart from civil service or bank jobs, you would hardly find any good-paying jobs, there aren't multinational companies here like you have in Lagos.

*If you go broke, you will hustle really hard (although you won't need so much to survive here due to factors stated under pros above).

*Nightlife can never be compared to what is obtainable down south.

I must also add that an advantage of moving from Lagos to Jos is this: People here rely on Lagos for lots of products while Jos has cheaper agro-products that people in Lagos need. If you are a hustler moving between these two towns, you would know exactly how to key into this.

Bro, I must commend your foresight. The thing is this: you can only make it big in these places if you go into business. For a fact, Gombe is a "civil servant" state and most of the jobs there are government related. Not being an indigene, the honest truth is that you don't stand a good chance of fetching them. However, if you go into business like computer repair/training, etc. you may quickly make it asap.

On security, Gombe town is relatively safe. I acknowledge that Jos has been subject to violence in the past. However, it has been relatively safe in recent times. So its a good choice. Again, I will advice you go to a place with a little "support system". That is, places where you know one or two people as they may always be there for you.

I can bet my life that in any choice you pick, you will love the people. The Hausa - Fulani are once of the most accommodating peoples in Nigeria and you will enjoy your stay. I wish you success in your future endeavors bro

See motivational speakers!

If you wish to leave Lagos for a better place, if the place is safe please don't think twice.

The worse that can happen is you will fail and come back home which is way way better than not trying at all.

I was born and brought up in jos before nysc took me out. Spent over 25yrs in jos so I can relatively say plateau is a place to be.
Security is relatively ok, truth is jos is decided between the muslims and christian. Every of these religion have their dominated areas, it's only business that brings everyone together in areas like terminus market, bukuru market etc. So if you are to come to jos I advise u to locate your area where your people are and stay there. If you are a christian then areas like state locus, rayfield, old airport, zaramaganda, apata, busa buji, gada biu, rukuba road, rock heaven, polo, utan etc is ok for you to stay
If you are a muslim then bauchi road, shagari corner katako, dilimi, etc is ok for you.

On the cost of living plateau is very cheap. You have lots of God and vegetables, cereals, etc. You sure won't spend much on feeding

Accomodation is also affordable in jos

Now it depends on what u studied in school or your skill. Money is not much in jos depending on your specialisation, but u surely will find something to do with God's help. Jos is a better location for u to relocate to

Don't forget it's freaking cold over there. Prepare for that
Nice one chidozie, very matured and intelligent advice, OP follow this advice.
