This one is based on hardwork and not quota system. That's why u see the hardworking tribes represented unlike the people that need to score just 6 to enter unity schools. thebosstrevor1: 1 Like |

FreeIgboho: Cos just like the Northerners the Igbos also have their agenda. They have practically take over most of the West and some parts of the North of Nigeria. And their mission is obvious. There was a time Yorubas wey the most populous immigrants in UK, US and other countries. Obviously Igbos are now going that chart too. Which explains easily why Igbos are the majority of those representing Nigeria in foreign countries. As far as I'm concerned, as long as they earn it by merit, we must give them their due accolades! 3 Likes |

Asadujames202: LoL you lot have a false sense of self worth and it forms the basis of pride and arrogance amongst your people... The only reason there are more Igbos on that list is because there are less women from other tribes involved in sports so don't think otherwise. Hausa/Fulani women aren't allowed to play sports due to religion, Yorubas have half of their women as muslims as well... So whatever is left is what you're seeing there. Anyways, keep believing what you want. 1 Like |

I'm no tribalist but, what's the point of shouting 'merit' and 'Igbo amaka' up and down and they return with no medals, which will likely be the case? Secondly, did these athletes get the opportunity due to being of a superior stock, or is it because of the exposure and opportunities they have due to their foreign background? We all know that we'll likely not be on the medals table at the end of the games, so are we compensating for that by celebrating participation? Really? Igbos on Nairaland get REAL problem, BIG one. 2 Likes |

Boss, talent is not enough. John Maxwell wrote a book titled "talent is not enough". I love the book. Hard work can beat talent if the talented is lazy or has bad characters or not expose to the right tools to help the talent. The major challenge of Nigerian athletes is tools. Your genetics can give you leverage but if you don't add some other ingredients to it, you won't explode that advantage. Technically most African Americans are from west Africa and can you see how they are killing it in American sports. Look at the French team that won the 2018 world cup. 80-85% are Africans. I am not sure most of those black guys can reach their potential if their parents raise them in Africa. thebosstrevor1: |

Asadujames202: Why are you narrowing it down to football alone? What about boxing, table tennis etc? You're too obsessed with proving that Igbos are the best, just because they have a good representation in football alone... Your perspective is too narrow bro. |

We are saying the same thing. Genetics is not enough. I was interchangeably using genetics and talent. In this context, both mean almost the same thing because genetics and talent just come naturally. The reason they have not won is that genetics is not enough. They have the genetics but there are several other things missing. For example, can you compare someone living in America that is exposed to a standard football pitch, a good coach, a good football analytics tool, and a nutritionist from age 5 to an African boy that taught himself almost everything about d sport? Some sports guys in our secondary schools have not even gotten the bearing at age 15 or 16, why won't we send a 25 yr old to under 17. Genetics (talent) is not enough. thebosstrevor1: |
