A Nigerian man identified as Opeyemi, has narrated how a Baptist church asked him to take off his earring while he was on a groomsman duty in the church.

According to Opeyemi, he left and waited for his friend who fully backed his decision at the wedding reception and there is a mixed reactions about his decision as many wondered why he could not just take them off for a few hours.

Opeyemi, narrating the encounter, he said that he was at a Baptist church in Lagos as one of the groomsmen for his friend’s wedding when he was asked to pull off his earrings, adding that he left the service immediately for the reception as he would never follow such dogma.

He, therefore, used the opportunity to lambaste Nigerians version of Christianity. When people told him that he ought to have honoured his friend and acted accordingly, he said his friend was in full support of him.

Truely, Religion is the opium of the people of africa..

Btw, what's with male folks wearing earrings even on both ears and then proceed to dreadlock their hair Hanty Anita??

Some even patronize wools and Lush just to keep the dreadlocks. ...

Well, I hope these guys wont run away when God would want to create Menstruation period as a part of their body system since they all want to act like Woman these days.. shocked shockedshocked

This post just shows how much religion and colonial mentality has brainwashed young Nigerians.

The standards that you follow were literally taught to you by whites...Africans had their own culture before they taught you that men dont wear jewelry and dreadlocks...look at ancient tribes.

Why not remove it just for the sake of the person you came to honour?

You just disrespected your friend with this inane arrogant behavior!

That is why I like the Baptist Church any time any day. They say it as it comes.
I remember when my pastor send my girlfriend out of the church because she put red lipstick. I was angry with the pastor but I later realize that the pastor was doing the right thing.
God bless all the Baptist Church members
God bless Nigeria.

Well you disrespected that friend who invited you to the wedding.
And to the friend that supported him is very stupid.

That's the least I can say.

I respect everyone's opinion about life but

Sometimes we show ego and pride for the wrong reasons.

I guess that Person wasn't really your friend, probably just an associate
exactly my thoughts.if he was at work and his boss told him to pull off the earings as it was unprofessional,he will not complain or walk out but to remove earing for few hrs has now become a problem.if I was the pastor I won't apologize and I will stand on what I said with my full chest

Does it make sense for the man to put on eatings to church as a groom's man?
If he has love for the couple, he should have removed the eatings.

The Reverend was not wrong, but the manner of approach was inappropriate

Is the so called opeyemi an alien to xtain doctrine, will he feign he did not know wearing earrings into the church was wrong. before the reverend noticed him what made you think some ushers/members have not cautioned him, besides the reverend is an authority in his church he has every right to enforce discipline .. asking him to leave is the most appropriate decision.

You don't have respect for your friend.
lol, in the same brewery that alcoholic and other Sayo drinks are being produce? Nothing we no go used defend what we personally hate in the name of religion.
N:B, do you know some people can't work or have anything to do with/in the same brewery you are using their rules as yardstick of your own version of Christianity, because, it's against their Christian and personal believe. So many versions of Christianity like Bible.

The church has its rule like many organisations , it is their space and not his space , if the church doesn't want it then he should abide by it or gtfo. Nobody is saying he shouldn't wear his earrings in his house or wherever it's accepted but calling out the church for not letting him wear his earrings in the premises of the church is just stupidity
I'm baptist, that is not baptist rule. That's just that pastor exercising his foolish power.

A christian brother in the US or UK can lead the choir with his dreads and earrings on, but immediately he lands in Nigeria, such dressing becomes a taboo. Tueh... let's learn to be calming down in this part of the world, please.

Like saying the Principal or proprietor of a school has not right to send a student home when the student goes against the school’s rule.

You can not compare a school to a church.
A church is a house of God where everyone is welcomed irrespective of their physical appearance.

Some people, when you go to their house, ask you to remove your shoes before entering. While some others don't mind you entering with your shoes. If the church asks you to, why is it difficult to remove the earring and perform your groomsman duties? Was he asked never to wear earring again in his life? It's tiring how people wish to misbehave anyhow in the church.

They where just busy fvcking themselves behind my back until choir mistress carry belle for usher. Make everyone respect themselves oh, no judge me make I no judge you!

When you are in Rome, you do like the Romans. Removing the earring for a few hours while the service last wont kill him! It's the same way some churches will tell the ladies to dress decently or they will be given a wrapper...think about it.
