I am curious, since you earn 800K in Nigeria, why did the Dubai option come in? Anyone who earns N800K as a permanent staff in a firm in Nigeria has relevant skills that can get the person better options abroad than a tourist visa instead of a working one.

Dubai option was far more flexible for me. I could balance my mental health with it and source for more contracts rather than waste my productive years collecting peanut. I already made up my mind to quit the bank work at most December 2021/January 2022 even b4 the Dubai opportunity came.

The only reason I accepted the bank offer at first was because I wanted to up my work experience which later was becoming toxic for me because the bank was too traditional, rigid, unreceptive to modern way of solving problems.

For example, it is mandatory I physically show up in the office for 2weeks (out of the 4weeks in a month) inside Lagos traffic. As a developer, going through such hassle reduces your productivity when you have no business in the office.

Please sir
I need your response
Check your mention

I don't just work because of the money my dear, I also envision where I will be in the next couple of years. Staying in a NIGERIA bank and hiding behind monthly salary that may not be increased in a very long time will not do the magic for me.

I saw the tech staffs that were working with the bank for years b4 my appointment, my brother, I don't want to follow their path, their lifestyle and what they represent now is not my dream.

Please there is too much in my head and I may not be able to present it well enough.

The Bank wasn't the only firm I was working for, as at the time, I work remotely for a company based abroad but I got the offer via an agent so they pay me in Naira. All of them summed up to the 800K (Bank 450k)

Does my clarification make sense to you? I will be happy if it does, no matter how little.

Thanks

Oh okay. If you want to be backend focused, u can start with OOP languages (like Java, CSharp) I started with java though.

You can send me a mail if you need further assistance. Check my profile

Greetings, good people of Nairaland

Please I need a piece of honest advice from experienced nairalanders, I am a Software Engineer, I got an offer from a very close friend (He is like a brother to me) of mine that resides in Dubai to come and manage a club he co-owns to enable him time for other activities. I will need to learn how nightclubs operate since I have little or zero knowledge about the nightlife. I have the freedom to pick up side gigs (or remote work) when I can and He is not in any way restricting me but he needs me to learn the business with him.

The plan, in a simple language, when I learn the business well enough he will pull out and open his own so I can be his manager since he doesn't want recognition.

He paid for my flight ticket and was the one that processed the visa for me (tourism) and he is currently working on how my visa can be extended and my work permit too.

Before I came to Dubai, I applied for this opening with a tech firm in Berlin. I completed the last stage here in Dubai and have been sent the offer but I will have to relocate to Germany because the work is on-site, the company bare expenses regards flight ticket, travel insurance, visa process et al. The start salary is 56K euros per annum (gross).

Also, I resigned from a bank as a development specialist (full-time staff not yet confirmed though, was earning 450K naira net with other benefits) prior to my trip to Dubai. I was doing well in Nigeria because I earned a total of up to 800K (with all my works combined) just that the work ethic (the bank work) is toxic to me because you will work your brain out debugging code, plus I am looking at a good place that I can start a family when I am ready and Nigeria is a no for me unless I have enough money to send my kid abroad to study.

What do I do now that I am already in Dubai? I am passionate about tech and I love the echo system. Please any input from experienced fellows will go a long way for me.

Thanks in advance. Mod please help so I can get as much input as possible

Hallo gut morgen.
Would love to speak with you.

Please can you recommend a platform where I can learn software programming?
And do you think I can learn while working?
