Please I need a piece of honest advice from experienced nairalanders, I am a Software Engineer, I got an offer from a very close friend (He is like a brother to me) of mine that resides in Dubai to come and manage a club he co-owns to enable him time for other activities. I will need to learn how nightclubs operate since I have little or zero knowledge about the nightlife. I have the freedom to pick up side gigs (or remote work) when I can and He is not in any way restricting me but he needs me to learn the business with him.

The plan, in a simple language, when I learn the business well enough he will pull out and open his own so I can be his manager since he doesn't want recognition.

He paid for my flight ticket and was the one that processed the visa for me (tourism) and he is currently working on how my visa can be extended and my work permit too.

Before I came to Dubai, I applied for this opening with a tech firm in Berlin. I completed the last stage here in Dubai and have been sent the offer but I will have to relocate to Germany because the work is on-site, the company bare expenses regards flight ticket, travel insurance, visa process et al. The start salary is 56K euros per annum (gross).

Also, I resigned from a bank as a development specialist (full-time staff not yet confirmed though, was earning 450K naira net with other benefits) prior to my trip to Dubai. I was doing well in Nigeria because I earned a total of up to 800K (with all my works combined) just that the work ethic (the bank work) is toxic to me because you will work your brain out debugging code, plus I am looking at a good place that I can start a family when I am ready and Nigeria is a no for me unless I have enough money to send my kid abroad to study.

What do I do now that I am already in Dubai? I am passionate about tech and I love the echo system. Please any input from experienced fellows will go a long way for me.

Bros, go to Germany and build a career there... the EU passport which can take u about 7-8 years maximum will really unlock doors for you, but in Dubai, there's no path where you become a citizen... especially as a worker...

So go to a place you can call home and also have the chance to work with the brightest in your industry... the club you can always revisit in the future...

I admire how hard you hustle. It’s commendable. I’d say you take the Tech job in Berlin. It’s a good path you can develop a life long career path. Also, Germany is a good place to live and work. Experience from there sets you up competitively in any part of the world.

Move to Germany. It’s in many ways better than Dubai. Remember that in Dubai, your visa is always tied to your work. There is no part to permanent residency in Dubai let alone citizenship.

How can u even contemplate between settling in Germany to Dubai?
Rasing a family in Dubai is one of the hardest thing to do. U can never be a citizen of that country even if u spend 50yrs , same goes to your kids and wife.
Just enter Germany and start your life. Na to dey visit Dubai for vacation remain.

I will suggest you go with the software/programming job in Germany. Technology is the future. I am sure you know that. Once you get your feet wet with that job, the job offers with HUGE salaries will start rolling in. It's actually a no brainer.

You're already blessed working in Nigeria, got elevated in Dubai and another greater promotion knocking from Berlin.

Even though your moving down to Germany looks selfish but what option do I have even if I'm in your shoe? Move to Germany but please let your friend in Dubai understand because what he did for you is wonderful.

You can't grow there professionally and the future is not guaranteed.

Berlin is your best choice.

An agreement is an agreement. You were not forced to come to Dubai.

Why not learn the ropes of the business before deciding to pull out? You never know what the future holds for you.
