The British Colonial Government Permitted the Western Region to have its own UK Embassy it was part of the Regional autonomy Awolowo negotiated at Independence so what is the Problem

It was Ironsi's Unification decree that closed that Embassy down

And it was Gowon's Decree 14 that abolished the Western Region all together

So if Zik was targeted, there must be a reason.

Why is Zik's being a target of Nzeogwu & co of such importance? I hope it's not your proof that he was not a ceremonial president and approved troops grin grin

Ademoyega that was among the coup plotters said they were after the entire executive branch of government. Or you have more inside knowledge than him?

For 10th and last time what's your proof that Zik approved troops to go brutalize people? Or is his placement on the Nzeogwu list what you call proof?
His being among the coup plotters doesn't make his narration impeccable. After all he wasn't even assigned any of the numerous targets to kill whereas some of his co plotters were assigned double. Have you ever heard any account which contains anything on the exact place Adegoyega was while the coup was being executed that unfortunate night? He didn't go for the execution and wasn't stationed in any particular known spot for any duty. He was just hoodwinked into believing he was part of a revolution, yet you say such a person was involved? What was his actual level of involvement?

Stop being clever by half.
If there was no reason to kill Zik as you said, and his name made into into the hit list all the same, then the only explanation for that is that the coupists had personal scores with him which they wanted to use the coup as an opportunity to get their pound of flesh. Otherwise tell us why his name made it into the death list.

At Aburi Ojukwu had requested for the Northern Region to be broken up
Gowon broke the Northern Region into six States and the South also into Six States
3 in the East and 3 in n the West

Ojukwu declared his doomed Republic of Biafra 3 days later.

Ironsi and Ojukwu were part of the Coup that was why Azikiwe was warned to escape but the Coup plotters insisted on waiting for Sardauna to return from Saudi Arabia 2 days earlier before Carrying out the Coup

https://dailytrust.com/amp/british-intelligence-reports-on-how-ironsi-took-over-3
Ojukwu arrested and took a man off the London bound Aeroplane at Kano because he thought he was Prime Minister Balewa's Brother

Azikiwe sent a Telegram to Gen Ironsi from London on the 16th of January addressing Ironsi as the Head of State

Ironsi didn't take over Power until the following day

That meant Azikiwe already knew of the Plan by Ironsi to take Power before it happened

It was the British Commonwealth Office from where Miss Emery who was Azikiwe's Secretary had sent the Telegram that informed Azikiwe that Dipcherma the Northern Minister of Transport was acting in Balewa's Place as Head of the Rump Cabinet and not Gen Ironsi and that it would be a good idea to resend the Telegram to Dipcherma instead

Below is the Video of Azikiwe on the day he left for his Medical Vacation in October 1965 he was well enough to inspect a guard of honour and take the Salute

So why didn't he attended the Commonwealth leaders Conference which held in Lagos 2 days before the Jan 15th 1966 Coup ?

Azikiwe definitely knew what was coming and he knew it was going to be very bloody

Professor of ignorance, here it is for you:

Page 16:

In May 1962, as the AG crisis was reaching its peak, the nation prepared for its first census as an independent country. The last census, which had been conducted in 1952-53 under the auspices of the British, had been the basis for the distribution of parliamentary seats prior to the 1959 election.
Northern power, and the NPC’s dominance, largely resulted from this census. Consequently, when a new census became due in 1962, implications for the ethno-regional balance-of-power inevitably
shaped its meaning.

Page 17: discovering” an extra 8.5 million northerners

of 31 million, up from the 22.5 million in the initial count – comfortably large enough to maintain its
preponderant advantage.
The NCNC led the south in completely rejecting the results of the
verification exercise. The governing alliance broke down as the NCNC pushed for the release of the
original census result, while the NPC backed the authenticity of the verification checks. Given this
impasse, the 1962 results were cancelled and a fresh census was announced for the second half of
1963.

Dr Busia the opposition leader of Ghana wrote a letter to Balewa a few days. before his death informing Balewa of the Plot by Azikiwe and Ironsi with knowledge of Nkrumah to Stage a Coup and have Balewa killed

The letter was still in Prime Minister Balewa's Pocket when his dead Body was found in the bush

Ifeajuna with assistance from Micheal Okpara the Premier of the Eastern Region fled to Ghana where Nkrumah who was Azikiwe's good friend gave Ifeajuna refuge

But only 6 weeks later Nkrumah's actions backfired and Nkrumah himself was toppled in a Coup

So after seeing it clearly stated that the last census before independence was done in 1952 and knowing fully well that censuses were being done at 10 year intervals up till 1992 in Nigeria, you still attach 1961 date to that first post independence census? Can't you see that you really don't have a functional brain at all?
And are you telling me that you couldn't read and understand the part of the report I extracted out which lays it bare that the census ended with a verification exercise which final outcome put the North comfortably ahead of the South? The school fees paid for your education would have been put to better use if it had simply been thrown into the sea. What an irritating way to live in denial!

Let me lecture you a bit on why you don't have to swallow like Akpu everything you read in a book narration an event even if written by direct participants.
You may again complain that I am writing epistles but it is worth it. Just take your time and read it patiently and you will get my drift.

For example; Ojukwu wrote in his "Because I am involved" that it was he who ordered and effected Awolowo's release from jail in order that he would work with or at least for Biafra as they allegedly agreed to.
We all know Ojukwu was actually involved in all those events of that period. No doubt about that at all. But putting on your thinking cap you would realize that Ojukwu lied to attract sympathy especially from people like you who aren't really cerebral enough to easily pick holes in claims. Now here are the holes in that claim.

1. Awolowo was released on the 2nd of August 1966 from Calabar prison. As at that day, Aburi meeting had not even been held talkless of Gowon reneging on the agreement which made Ojukwu later declare Biafra. Aburi Accord was held on January 4 and 5, 1967, and it was afterwards that the agreement broke down on getting back to Nigeria and the idea of secession now began to cross Ojukwu's mind. So how was it possible that Ojukwu was already reaching agreements with Awolowo on Biafra in August 2 the previous year i.e. at least four months before secession idea first occured to him?

2. Aguiyi Ironsi was dethroned and killed on July 29 and Gowon took over that day. Then Ojukwu began to insist on Ogundipe and expressed the premonition, albeit hypocritically, that the seed for disregard of seniority had been sown. This continued for days far past August 2 date of Awolowo's release which was just Gowon's third day in office. So how could Ojukwu who was still interested in having Nigeria get it right have been negotiating with Awolowo on secession from Nigeria at that same time?

3. The order that released Awolowo from Calabar prison in the Eastern Region where Ojukwu was Governor also release the likes of Enahoro, Alvan Ikoku and many other AG stalwarts who were jailed in Western and Northern Regions prisons. Now, who between Ojukwu the Eastern Region Governor and Gowon the military head of state had the power to give an order that would be effected in prisons in all regions simultaneously? You be the judge no if Ojukwu said the truth or lied despite being directly involved in those events.

Then in his "Why we Struck" Wale Ademoyega wrote that he and his colleagues had started planning the coup from as far back as mid-1961. But in another chapter he writes that the coup was planned to put a check on the unlawfulness being perpetrated in the Western Region.
Now ask yourself how a coup plot hatched in 1961 could have been because of the Western Region crises that started later in 1962. Did the coupists have the power to foretell the future?
So you see why you shouldn't rely entirely on the author of a narration even if he was a direct participant in the events he tries to narrate in his book.
Only an intellectually deficient person swallows everything in a book just because the author was himself involved.

You see why I said you have no use for critical thinking? And people who are so intellectually lazy want to have us believe that their proposed Biafra Republic will be a paradise of scientific and technologcal innovations novel among African countries as if science and technology are products of emotional outbursts rather than careful study and critical analysis of nature and scientific literature. So much for a "superior" race of Jewish ancestry.
If anything Jews are the most critical thinkers in the world and have no use for emotionalism. But our Jews here are born with extreme emotions and little tolerance for critical thinking. I pity any SS state that mistakenly joins that ill-fated Biafra. It will be a jungle where might will rule in place of reason. It will simply be terrible there.

any SS state that mistakenly join Biafra will have its people roasted and eaten as Suya
I dey tell you. A people who could tie an elderly man to a tree and torture him with naked flame just for the "offence" of holding a contrary political view to theirs. A people who cut a man's dick and sat him on bare ground making him declare for Biafra under duress. They don't believe in using sound arguement to win people to their side. It is insults and name calling always. See how they were first to use abusive language on this thread. Very uncivilized and savage people. Disgusting!

Soe you never heard that the final results of a census can only come after all the disputes and court cases about it have been addressed? In the 2006 census you never heard Lagos State go to court over the abandonment of some enumeration units, won in court and INEC ordered to go and recount those enumeration units and add them to the preliminary results? What Balewa and Ahmadu Bello rejected were preliminary results. The final results that came after verification put the North ahead of the South and Michael Okpara and other Southerns rejected it and Balewa still allowed for a cancellation and then ordered a rerun in 1963. You are an ignoramus proud of your bold ignorance.

If I tell you to bring proof that southerners contested the first census and give you auhoritative sources you will type long, empty epistles that you are more "impeccable" than Nigerian Population Commission website grin
