Whatever I do is between me and my creator. It's nobody's business. I don't discuss my private life in public.

Confession is confession whether openly or in the closet. The key thing is that it should be made unto repentance.

Yes. In fact, that's the Bible standard in certain cases where the sin affects others

The truth is this, many men nowadays rush to the internet to make such confession when they sight scandals or blackmail ahead. A case of let me do it before you break the table. Nigerians barely can separate empathy over sentiment hence people finding it easy to do wrong and use a fast one to cover their tracks. A caught drug peddler would win our soul with one good gesture and next we would resolve to politicians sins. No man want his mess in the face of people cos she only owes his wife the confession. The world don't care cos it's a just gist for some days or weeks and cruise for eternal.

He who makes a public sin, makes a public confession. Such is both of them.

Moreover, heart felt or not, doesn't matters where a confession is made. It can be made secretly, yet not heart felt and vice versa.

What is my business with the public, am I in a relationship with them?
Why should I confess to the public?

I will say it secretly to God and God alone because He is my creator, if I manage tell my wife, na just part and not whole.

That's my opinion.

Most people are imperfect themselves. They may not be able to handle the confession. They begin to judge and some have a wrong perception of you

As far as I am concerned you only confess to God almighty and a qualified priest, and the person you hurt directly ( depending on the situation)

You just need to do so with action not words!

If you've stolen something from someone in the past (before you become a Christian) and you're feeling it may hinder you from entering God's Kingdom. All you need to do is go back to that person and pay back as a gift without making it public, you don't have to say a word about what happened in the past, you are paying what you stole secretly back in secret.

In the case where the person is dead then go on your knees and tell God what you intend to do but death has caused a breakup between you and the person. This is necessary because the person is dead and no more in need of worldly possessions. Then you can take what you supposed to give him/her to help paupers around you (without announcing it) because if it's announced then it can't pay off what you stole anymore, you've received the glory by making it public, remember you want to pay back what you stole in secret so you must pay back in secret! Matthew 6:2

This is the exact reason I left christianity (modern day Christianity that is) and embraced atheism. It promotes deceit, selfishness and crass materialism. It all about "what is in it for me", stick and carrot.

You steal something from someone, you are more worried about going to enjoy in heaven than the pains you caused the person you stole from. That mean if there is no heaven, you will never regret stealing.

Going back to pretend you are giving an item as gift to someone you stole from is deceitful. The person would be grateful to you and even feels he owes you, not knowing you stole from him. True repentance involve confessing your sins and begging for forgiveness from those you sinned.

Modern day Christianity encourage you to sin, and then the only consequences is asking secretly for forgiveness and accepting Christ and your conscience is cleared once again to commit sin. That's against the universal spiritual law of Karma, that prescribes actual consequences for our actions.

The reason many people fail to admit their wrong and to seek penitence is FEAR!

Not the fear of the consequence of their action per se but the fear of the public perception and reaction if they owned up!

This is even common to persons who have a venerated public status.
The fear of losing that status is why men attempt to cover their sins.

In the case of Okposo, I'll give it to him! It's not easy considering the factor stated above, but whether he has always been guilty of adultery or not, the thing is confession makes one bold enough to overcome that fear of public conviction...
With the victory over the fear of public perception, overcoming the perpetuity of such sin becomes easy.

Even though it's not required for all sins, fornication ranks among the top sins that require a confession.

And even when making the confession it is not required to go public public.

There are leaders in the Church or congregation.

Those are the ones you are to meet.

Sammy Okposu here is just trying to pull a PR stunt

Your argument is a +/- for me...

The last paragraph makes a moral sense that I can agree with. But your rationale for abandoning faith for faithlessness is what I cannot wrap around my head! Are you saying atheists don't steal or deceive? - they don't believe in Heaven anyway! So, what difference does it make?

[quote author=Mood11 post=109800775]The first and true confession comes from the heart, it is seasoned with genuine repentance and change of character.
Rather than coming to social media to make more mess of one's self, it is better you go to the individuals you have offended and confess to them and seek forgiveness. God bless you.

Atheist have reasons to steal, but atheists don't have reasons to rationalize or justify their stealing. Atheists are aware they will face the consequences of their stealing especially if caught.

Religion and beliefs aside. So Supreme God that we can misteriously see His writing on everything making up the universe, you say He doesn't exist, and you want everyone to believe that you @EnemyofGod22 do exist just because this was posted through an irrelevant Monika on Nairaland!?

How does a damn creation even believe there is no creator!?

Big shame on you the poster!
