Our thoughts and fears comes as temptation Mostly not God bringing it.

"Lead us not into temptation" is like saying 'don't allow me to encounter or come across temptation', but deliver us from evil.

James 1:13-14 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed

How do we reconcile the above with Lord's prayer. " Lead us not into temptation"
God deals with us with his MERCY, GRACE and FAITHFULNESS .
That prayers is asking God to help us overcome our weakness with his Mercy, Grace and FAITHFULNESS. If God doesn't do that we automatically becomes candidate of TEMPTATION. If we fail this temptation we are then liable to judgment. This is the worse situation and that's why Jesus taught us to pray as such.
Bible says he who the Father loves, he chastesizes.
I hope you get it. We fall into temptation after we failed the help of Father through his Mercy, grace and faithfuness to overcome our weaknesses. Afterwards he has no choice but to let temtpation do the firework. If we again fail then he can't help his judgement.
Remember Job in weakness of "fear"
Judas on weekness of money, Samson on weakness of strange women etc. Bless you.

Mark 1:12-13 Amplified Bible
Immediately the [Holy] Spirit forced Him out into the wilderness.
He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted [to do evil] by Satan; and He was with the wild animals, and the angels ministered continually to Him.

Biblically God does not himself tempt, he however can lead you to be tempted by satan.
As we can see above it was the Holy spirit that lead Jesus to the wilderness to be tested by satan.
And after he passed the temptations/test, he was vetted ready for his assigmnent/ministry on earth.

It is however ironic that the Lord's prayer teaches us to pray against temptations, where as this is how our faith is tested and made perfect.

This is a process called pruning/testing your faith to make it as pure as gold.

Satan was created by God as a good Angel but he chose to turn bad.

God didn't create evil, men did. That's why God regretted that he created man.

God's law are there to guide us against harming or doing evil to others.
