You forget that Taliban are Afghans themselves. The US cannot liberate Afghanistan from Afghans (at least, that was the logic behind the decision to leave the country). I think dealing with the leaders behind the 2001 terrorist attack would have been sufficient for the US, but they believed that killing an idea was better than killing a man, so they decided to change the government entirely but sadly for them, the new government was overly dependent.

Ukraine on the other hand is fighting to save themselves from a neighbour. That makes all the difference in my opinion. In this case, Russia is the invader and the Ukrainian government is like the Taliban. How long can they stay in Ukraine? Not like anyone is expecting Ukraine to win the war, but it's just necessary to compare situations properly.

And that's that. The only way that women can get girls back in school is simple...change the society from within. That's how most European and American countries did it. Change from within...not hoping that an American or Russian savior would come and liberate them from the tboys.

Afghanistan is a country that is stuck in the stone age. Nothing can be done. I guess most girls who want an education would have to get out of the country, or get to Kabul...where some education goes on. But until most of the country is willing to see female education as the right thing, nothing is going to change.

Nelson Mandela spent better part of his life in prison for south Africa to be free from the oppression of whites, if turning to refugees is what we will make Ukrainians to get their freedom from the oppression of Russia, then it is worth it. At the end, it's up to the Afghans to decide. They decided to go back to the stone age with the Taliban (at least the Islamic republics of Iran and Saudi back women's education, so nothing really to do with Islam)...and I guess the USA and before them the Russians are glad to leave them there.
