The truth is boarding house has outlived it's time in present day world, I went to boarding house in the late 90's and there are somethings that happened, till date I can't even share with just anyone, and that was when there were no mobile phones and social media and it was an only boys school, after I left I said to myself I will never put my child in boarding house or advise anyone to do so, that was back then, now compare that time to over 20 years with all the rubbish going on the internet with social media and sex appeal.

If I were in charge of government, I will ban boarding house, some parents don't know that parenting style should change as the world is changing, you can't use old style of training children for modern times, boarding house doesn't help at all at this time, it worked in the past.

for programs like this competition, the school should make sure at least 1 parent or guardian should come along for such event, the expenses should be bore by the parent or the the child will be withdrawn from the event.

The housemaster thing cannot be as effective as parenting, if some parents that have only 4 children sometimes find it difficult to monitor and control their children, is it now a housemaster that will now effectively monitor and control over 76 children.

Parents need to be closer to their children now more than ever since the entire existence of mankind...

That you and all those people that liked your comments actually believe this means we still have a long way to go in this nation. This same belief gave birth to boko haram and criminals in the society, Americans and other developed world know better and that's why they have put a system in place where every child must be treated right, basic education is a must and every child have their basic needs met because they realized that the child that is left to the whims and caprices of an incompetent parent will be the problem of the society in future, even upto how you treat a child and bring him up is well regulated by the government and they have social workers who will take your child from you if you are found lacking in your parental responsibilities, this doesn't mean they don't have social miscreants but it is nothing compared to what we have here. that is one of the reasons why Tupac Shakur and notorious big had to die because they were busy raising a generation of future gangstars through their influence on the kids then, although this is from the grapevine and not confirmed by American government but it made sense that the government might have killed them because they, unlike us always think, project and plan for the future. Until Nigerian government start seeing the future of nigeria in the children and shaping the future from them by making the right policies and providing equal opportunities that enable each child to get to any level they can regardless of who their parents is, we will always have problem because after the rich man has raised his child disdaining the poor man's child, that poor man child will grow up to be a criminal and not allow the rich mans child to live in peace. It's simple logic. Sorry if I sound preachy, I'm actually writing for the general awareness of anyone that comes across this.

No sir. I don't agree. Again the age of your first kids does not influence the truth about this scenerio in any way. I married as a virgin at 34 and my wife was a virgin at 30. That was the background and times we lived in that benefitted us. Do you think the societal values of today does not influence the decisions kids will make? The movies, the bbnaija? The celebrities? The bobrisky? The phones and xrated videos? The unaccountable politicians and moral decay in a society? Put that same child in the north and see her have a different character altogether. The society affects the growth and characteristics of the children who live there.
