Did he try to treat it? And how did he know it was a rat that bit him since he was asleep? One thing I do know is that rats transmit diseases. It's a sad story for the man but it's possible he ignored treatment, maybe 'kabashing' against 'evil manipulation ' until the inevitable happened to his leg.
We need to wake up in Africa, everything isn't out to kill us.
