If a 50 year old man in your street was accused of raping a two year old girl and police arrests him in the presence of everyone but he got released after investigation when they found out that he is innocent, will his good reputation still remain? In Ekweremadu case here he will be vulnerable to emotional blackmail from people around him even if he will be vindicated because people will likely believe any future accusation against him whether true or false.
