How do you got certified to work as an IT Support Specialist??

I'm taking IT Support Specialization by Google from coursera online. With that, when done I could say I'm a IT Support Specialist. I'm in course 4 of the specialization (sysadmin course).
My only worries is that knowledge isn't enough to get the job done sad application of knowledge is what is needed.

Am not done yet, am actually doing my last course of the 5, hoping to complete them as soon possible,

Am not auditing, if you audit you won't get a certificate for the courses you are auditing

You need to apply for Financial aid for all the 5 courses

I've got some questions geared towards the logistical side of things that I think a bunch of us could benefit from knowing about.

Please, if you've got experience dealing with these areas, help us out by answering.

If you've got a job working for a company overseas, how do you receive payments? Do you have a dollar account at a bank, or do you use third part services like PayPal?

How do you deal with taxes? Do you have to pay abroad, and then in Nigeria, or just in Nigeria (if you pay taxes at all, lol)

What sort of identification do they require you provide? NIN? Passport? Do they even require you to prove that you are who you say you are, or is a virtual face to face interview enough?

It's practically impossible for companies to do a proper background check on us, so do they even try?

Does anybody here work, or knows someone that works, at any of the big tech companies (Microsoft, Google, Netflix, Apple, Amazon, etc) remotely from Nigeria? I'm not talking about their branches here in the country, I mean for the actual companies abroad.

Stuff like that.

Another thing guys have to take note is that your name matters too. If you answer english names you have more chance of interview than someone with okoro adekunle ciroma.

1 I get paid in crypto.

2. I don't pay taxes, Nigeria can go Bleep itself in the ass.

3. I have never had anyone ask me for any identification.

4. They do background checks. I had a company I am presently interviewing with in Italy message my present boss and my last boss to confirm I worked with them. My boss knows I am looking for a new job so he's cool with it.

5. Big tech companies relocate you out. If you get a job at Google they relocate you to UK or Ireland likewise Amazon, Netflix et Al. Microsoft has an office in Nigeria but I have met engineers that got relocated to branches abroad cause they applied to those places.

Okay
How is it like for someone like me with only freelance experience getting a tech job remotely or via relocation??

I got no company experience as a developer.

It's not impossible though but I won't lie it's very very very hard. It's why I tell newbies that even though they are freelancing they shouldnt also forget looking for a job in a reputable company.

Firstly, every firm has their method of payment. Some use Payoneer, Deel, PayPal and others just ask for your local account number. They'll then look for the suitable way to send money to the account(God forbid grin). What ever you do, make sure the mode of payment lands in $$$$.

Secondly, Most remote jobs for we here in Africa are contract-based, so it's more like a service (most firms use it to avoid direct tax payment). Some contracts are B2B. As for tax here, Never get paid Directly to your bank account, else, we all will soon attract the new useless tax reform with no benefit this clueless government has been making. I heard Kuda is stopping zero charges also.

Thirdly, the companies scrutinize you base on their company policies. Your linkedin, twitter and deep google search on you would all be taken account of. But it's relative to firms

Lastly, most FAANG only employ on full-time bases from overseas for inhouse roles. 100% of their remote staff are residents in a country they have offices.

I met a guy who got a google internship on a remote role last month though, a uni lag guy(obviously cheesy). He was the first Nigerian ever to get such.

But ideally, junior roles at FAANG are never remote.

Hi DrLevi,

Thanks for starting the thread. I have a suggestion that might help improve the thread. I think you should explicitly point out this thread isn't for those who work in tech only. We can have people from any career who work for international companies share their work tips and experience and this will probably help get this thread some traction.

Nice questions

1. Previously, Upwork => payoneer and some to Grey => Payoneer to my Dom(dollar account in the bank) and Grey to my Naira account
Currently everything goes through MoneyGram to my Dom account

2. Taxes... Lol

3. Provided my Voter's card, although they asked for any Government ID preferably my International passport data page

4. Didn't get any background check, like you said, its impossible

Beautiful suggestion but owing to the fact that it was created in the programming section, it would be hard to broaden the scope of who and what is covered

it might also dilute the information if it becomes general purpose as the original idea was a go-to thread for getting into remote roles foreign companies in tech

How frequent do designers get remote roles with foreign companies.

I hear of devs a lot but not a lot of designers. Maybe some designers here can contribute their experience working remotely

Why didn't you stop that guy from denigrating the country in the name of leaving it?
He is free to go but must he insult the country.

He said he doesn't pay taxes, the country he wants to run to do their own citizens not pay Taxes even if it is being looted
which one is worse than being happy you don't pay your fair share? So those who pay taxes in Nigeria are fools ?.
