It is either resource control by states or regional as it was in the 1963 constitution

Try to be very clear when you write something of this magnitude. Not for you to start calling the mods to post nonsense to the Front page. What do you mean when you say regional as it was in 1963? Are we still having regions now or state? Also are you suggesting the 36 states be scrapped while we revert back to regions? Try to be clear.

As they say,..."but for fools, all words should be spoken in proverbs"

The problem with many people of this generation is that they hate to read and when they do, they don't comprehend.

I gave two options l... Revert to the 1963 constitution or Restructure the system using the present template.

And just for you to get more clarity since you refused to educate yourself,

The 1963 constitution gave room for 4 regions so if they have to revert they don't need to scrap all the states, but the current states will just merge into the region whilst still maintaining their name.

Nigeria problem is not really about leadership but of structural anomaly brought about by a failed constitution of 1979 and amended in 1999...This is the reason why any elected president will never make any viable progress because the present constitution is very inimical to the progress of Nigeria.

Even if Jesus comes down to rule Nigeria, he will definitely restructure the entire failed system first before assuming power because even the scriptures attest in the books of psalms 11vs3 "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

As 2023 approaches, rather than drumming up support for any candidate or any party, Nigerians should clamor for a total overhaul of the 1979/99 constitution that has stagnated the country for several years because in my opinion, no matter who gets there, no substantial progress can ever be made with the present structure and we will only keep going round and round in circles for many years to come.

More saddening is that the leaders in political offices know this but have vehemently refused to do anything about it simply because the present unproductive structure comes with so much largesse for them.

Nigerians should come together to demand that the country returns to the 1960/63 constitution which reflects true federalism with regions as federating units or restructure the present system to allow True federation.

This will end the economic stagnation of many years, accelerate national growth, put an end to the clamor for secession and foster the unity of Nigeria thereby making her more productive, more powerful and more dominant on the global economic scene.

Before the next President embarks on any task, restructuring must be done else all his efforts will be futile and will end up like his predecessors.

I agree with you. We are just manufacturing poverty on an industrial scale with this military authored constitution. Now we are preparing to change bus driver next year when we know the engine of the bus is bad and should be completely replaced.

Simplistic and I completely disagree.

Have you being the admin of a whatsapp group of Nigerians before? Have you read some comments by the Igbo youths that ipob terrorist group have messed up their lives with drugs, evil, hate and bigotry against other Nigerians ?

Our problem lies in the homes with horrible parenting. This is where the hardwork is; charity begins at home. Ghosh! Some folks should never ever be a parent !

Parents failed the nation by being unpatriotic so could not raise patriotic and decent children. Once we get the homes right, teaching the children to be patriotic then most of our problems get solved.

Govt should face the homes. That is where the real hardwork is; appoint inspectors, develop tests and metrics for identifying dysfinctional homes and make early interventions.

Nigeria problems is impunity. not addressing impunity before restructuring would only increase /transfer the amount of impunity to the other tier of government

rule of law, strong independent functional institutions before restructuring.

That's correct
But a section of the country will never agree with restructuring/constitution amendments because the present system has heavily favoured them
That's why power must return to the south
And the only person that may look in to this WITHOUT FEAR OF ANY CABALS IS
PETER OBI

God bless you. NIGERIA WOULD NEVER MOVE FORWARD WITHOUT RESTRUCTURING!

I am happy that other people are beginning to understand the need to restructure Nigeria and practice true federalism where the federating units have autonomy over their natural and human resources.

Like the OP said, the politicians know that restructuring is the way forward but they are stalling because the present structures suits them.

Partially true!
Nigeria would be better and easier to run productively if we revisited the constitution.

However, we must not forget that this Country grew at over 5% GDP growth rates consistently before 2015!!
Our current terrible situation is due to the poor policies and leadership of the current government. Simple!

The first is census. Get the figures corrected. North West can not be more populated than the whole of Niger Republic. North West is also more populated than Chad, even Mali. They are in same region. This defies all theories of studies especially that of Geography. Until this abnormally is corrected Nigeria wont move forward.

It was achieved in the First Republic because they hadn't experienced the wonders of oil wealth then. Nobody eats the forbidden fruit and goes back. Mouth wey don wide, don wide. It is really that simple. The biggest mistake Nigeria ever made was to end the more confederal regionalism and usher in the idea of federating states with a strong centre. And of course, correcting mistakes are never as easy as making them.

Let's not bother about philosophy. Let's focus on pragmatics. The North would never allow restructuring for the very simple reason that it would immediately plunge them into social and economic disaster. Forget long talks and outdated stories about arable land and groundnut pyramids.

For the last time, let me reiterate that the main basis of the clamour restructuring is to correct the injustice of the North receiving more than its fair share, while contributing next to nothing. That is the koko. It's not about improving economy of the whole country.

There would be competition among the different regions.
The north would be forced to sit up and make do with what they have.
Their refusal to approve of it because of oil money has been successful because they are more than others in the upper and lower Houses.
Nevertheless, anything can still be done with the right determination and effort.
There is always a way.

Your line of reasoning is so kindergarten.

What you explained as true federalism is confederalism government.
Federalism means a strong central govt.
Nigerias problem is hydra headed and going back to regions wont solve anything.

If Nigeria is to move foward, revive the local governments and government should stop doing buisiness with its citizens

A million claps for you..weldone OP. I've always been an advocate of restructuring. Many among my people don't seem to know why I'm opposing Tinubu's political agenda. This was the man who used to be at the forefront of the campaign for restructuring, same idea which Afenifere had been known for, right from the days of Pa Awo. The moment he joined forces with the APC, he backtracked, not knowing he was pursuing his lifetime ambition codedly. That's a selfish move.

Let every region flourish in whatever they can do best and contribute to the centre. The type of government we run is not going to take Nigeria anywhere. Even in America, each state develops itself with what they have. Some, tourism, some agriculture, some techs , some industries, some oil, etc. America still remains strong and successful. How can we pretend to be copying American system of government but be applying it upside-down?

Some states would just sit down and be expecting a federal allocation that won't do them any good. Some of them are potentially rich but they're so myopic. No thanks to the 1999 constitution. With restructuring someone like Ado Doguwa would tame his manhood and work hard to make his region greater rather than being a parasite, taking from tax payers money to feed his 30 children. There wouid be even distribution of resources with less crowd of law makers at the centre. Its too expensive to run our type of government.

Anyone who had been to Bad Ems in Frankfurt before would attest to the fact that its a replica of Lokoja in Kogi State. There's a town called Gackenbach where millions of tourists visit every year. Yahaya bello is such a myopic governor. Its not enough to allow youths to occupt key political seats. Youths with vibrant ideas are needed. Lokoja is another multi billion dollar tourism revenue which is just wasting away. I've been at the top of the hills before. I actually drove there. Its as flat as a football pitch occupying several acres of land, enough to occupy the entire lokoja residents. There's an elevator in the one in Germany which will take tourists to the top where you'd find restaurants, hotels, hospitals, even estates.

Without restructuring, we're headed nowhere.
We'd end up breaking up
