A re-design of the Naira is the least of nigeria's troubles!

The shortage of dollars is biting and at the rate the Naira is tumbling is troubling. I won't be surprised if it hits $1-N1,000 by May next year.

From around N200 in May 2015, the currency would have lost 80% of its value and joined the list of 4 digit currencies like South Korea and Colombia in just 8 years. The Naira only list half its value from 1999-2015. That covers 16years.

If Buhari had done the needful, I doubt the Naira would have fallen below 350.

Things he should have done:

I. Leave the flexible exchange system he met His unwelcome meddling is the prime reason why the economy is moribund and why there's a shortage of forex.

Peter Obi, Tinubu and Atiku have all promised to bring back the flexible exchange policy that worked well in the past.

2. Remove the fuel subsidy and deregulate the price. The ending of the subsidy will save huge sums for the government, preventing borrowing. It will also generate much needed revenue.

3. Cut down the size of the civil service. Lamido Sanusi said that civil service can survive if its half the present. This will save lots of money

Plans were already in place by GEJ to close many duplicate agencies and parastatals but PMB did not follow through. That will be left to his successor.

4. Reduce corporate tax to 15%.

This will boost foreign investment flooding the country with not just forex but high economic growth rates as well
