That is also a very good one. An Auto mechanic is a knowledge worker but still requires some hard work and grime. I know of a very good Nigerian electrician who retrained and got licensed in US..earns roughly 80 thousand dollars a year. Even a Plumber or HVAC technician will earn decent.

But with IT jobs we are talking of working from the confines of your bedroom and making really good money.

Not all of IT is writing codes.

I work in heavy IT environment and can't write a single line of code nor even have any IT certifications. But i am a highly skilled people leader and I just provide leadership and guidance from my closet.

I have hvac skill but in a beginner level

Great things start from small beginnings. Start somewhere and continually look for better opportunities while improving yourself to be ready for it when it is time.

Before I got to where I dey work from home...I don do many things for that place. Put in my best while looking for something better.

If you like yourself you better invest at least two good years in yourself make you go school and get at least an associate degree in Information Technology with good IT certifications.

Why you go leave Nigeria come dey drive forklift for North America, when you can start earning at least 75,000 dollars per annum working from the comfort of your bedroom as an IT proffessional.

Do not limit yourself.
Can you recommend some I T certifications I can do from naija here?

Some people have been here since 1996 at least. Sadly till today they are still delivering mails for post office or FedEx at 50+. That is where thier exposure reach.

Do you want him to still be driving forklifts at 55 years. What is the career path in that and how much can he really make longterm. When he has a brain that he can put to work.

This is an example of the degree mentality brought over to the "West". Forgot his name .... " a village boy" migrated to the US... has one of the most read threads on NL ... narrated how he got a job at UPS ... met a fellow Nigerian on the "menial job" ... who had earned I think 4 degrees but never left the job. He couldn't understand the same .... what is the career path in this menial job? ... how much can he make long term? ... why doesn't he put his brain to work? It didn't make sense until he was shown how much he was earning in the "menial job".
It seems to me you have no clue how much people earn in these jobs.... especially those in a Union. Not saying learning IT skills is a waste of time ... but do not see learning other skills as less rewarding or not good as a career path. There are soooo many forklift operators over 50 still driving forklifts ... you should find out their pay ... especially if in a Union .... I can bet you they are making more than 7 out of ten guys with IT degrees.

I won't argue unnecessarily with you. I do not talk because I want to talk.

The average salary for a forklift driver is $32,000 per year. An average Network engineer salary is $90,000 a year. Even entry level data analyst will hover around $75,000 per annum with less noise in the warehouse and backaches.

If all the skills you want to have in life is lifting pallets and boxes for 8-10 hours everyday in a warehouse, that is your choice but it shows how ambitious you are. But Nigerians go abroad to take full advantage of opportunities that they did not have back home so why settle for a 32k max income when you can invest in yourself for a couple of years and earn anywhere between 75k and 100k per annum.

I know very well about warehouse jobs as we call them. It's for those new immigrants who are still trying to find their feet, uneducated citizens, teenagers who just finished, high school and those adults who are not interested in adding any value to themselves.

I've been on this forum for more than 15 years. Since 2007. Not one scandal, no business transaction with anyone, no advertisement of any product, no begging for or soliciting for anything from anyone. I comment and rarely reply DM's. Clean as a whistle.

He is in Canada and there are thousands of open positions in many fields. This is not Nigeria where unemployment rate is 50% and IT penetration is still minimal.

IT is a very very broad field. Not everyone will be a software developer. If your brain is so dead that you cannot find one field there to chuck head na you sabi.

There are other fields too. Phlebotomy, Medical Billing and Coding, Insurance Claims Adjusting. Project Management, Copywriting.

The person concerned greatly appreciates my input cause I have opened his eyes to how to prosper in his new environment.

Young Nigerians in the USA and Canada are killing it. Working 2- 3 easy jobs from the comfort of their bedrooms as knowledge workers with a combined annual gross of ranging from 150 to 250 thousand dollars per annum.

Why should he not invest two years in his life to aquire an in-demand skill and secure his future and prosper in an environment that guarantees success if you put the work in.

Na where you eyes reach na him you go see.

If the guy brain dull...instead of driving forklift, I will advise him to kuku get a Commercial Driver License and start driving trucks across Canada. That one will pay him more than Forklift driving. That one na warehouse job na....you go dey struggle to pay bills all your life.

Wake up!!!

You don't know how to read or you just love to comment with comprehension? Na everybody love IT work?? You nor see where the OP say he don start to learn Carpentry and he want specialise on it? Why you de force people to learn things dem nor de passionate about? You know how much carpenter make a year?

How much? Carpenter Max 27$ per hour.
A Project Manager makes 60$ per hour.

You dey encourage am to go learn Carpenter but you took your time to learn and trade forex which is more financially rewarding than being a carpenter.

As Carpenter income dey very okay, why you no learn the Carpenter. You no see say you be wicked person.

What have i done wrong in advising someone not to settle for less but invest time and resources to aquire a skill that will enable him to earn as much as possible. Is that not the whole point of my message to him. I myself am not an IT person ,it does not fit my personality but I work closely with developers and it is way more financially rewarding for me than driving a forklift or being a carpenter.

Liar!!!!

I trade funded account of $200k and get 85% of the profit made. You think trading is like before when Nigerians suffer to fund their accounts because of the economy??

Nothing to prove here.. I'm saying people have their choice to make.. not everyone can learn forex trading, it broke me plenty of times, i gave up more than I can counted but I found myself going back and looking at chart each day for the past four years and I'm too resilient. Some people can't even bear losing their money, they just want to work and earn then save for the future.. if the OP is more passionate about Carpentry and handy job no need to advise him or insult him and calling him dull. We all can't be doctors, lawyers, politicians/president.. trying to be what you're not destined to be will make you more poor and later you'll quit..

Me personally I hate looking for job or talking to people and love being in charge. Some people love the rat race and working under someone.. you can't force your ideas into someone.

I've seen ADs on programmers in Nigeria doing videos and placing their ad on the internet and ad boards asking people if they want to create websites etc.. some programmers that I know personally and they work in lagos, they're being paid 100k to #200k.

I can't do that, I can travel anywhere in the world and not look for job and live really good. Even though the country timezone is different I'll shift to stock options trading and live really good. So we think different.. while you are advising people to do a skill and start looking for job then working under someone.. some people aren't interested in that kind of lifestyle...

Have a great day....

I don't know how much carpenter make but I know they live really good. I know trade skill pay alot and some of them even earn more than graduates in western world and they don't owe education debts. And government tax their ass to pay student loans for some graduates that can't afford to pay back.. life is about doing what you are passionate about that'll give you satisfaction.

Trade Test Certificates are very important documents for anyone seeking employment in a skilled-trade job. They are typically issued by government agencies or other authorized institutions, and they certify that the bearer has successfully passed a trade-specific skills assessment.

Trade Test Certificates provide several benefits to workers. First and foremost, they help demonstrate competency and expertise in a specific trade, making it easier to find and secure work in that field. They also provide a standard credential that can be recognized across different industries and regions.

For employers, Trade Test Certificates provide a useful way to screen potential job candidates and ensure that they have the necessary skills and training to perform a job effectively. They also help to foster a culture of professionalism and quality in the skilled trade industries.

Overall, Trade Test Certificates are an important tool for individuals seeking to enter skilled trade professions, as well as for employers looking to hire skilled workers.

You can contact me for your Trade Test Certificate from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment
