They have all tested power and profited immensely from it. Coming down to Tinubu and obi. If I am to choose on the basis of performance while in office, I will choose Tinubu and if I am to choose by emotional sentiment fueled by marginalisation I will choose obi.


On choosing Tinubu, you can see the handwriting everywhere. He did do much while in office, he set the pace for continuity, he assembled proteges of like minds to ensure things keep running after him.

On obi, while in office, he didn't do much, he never thought of tomorrow not to talk of continuity. He went in hurriedly and left hurriedly and damned what happened next.

Labour Party we will see if it will be like 3rd parties in the US. I usually vote for 3rd party individuals, but I do that as a protest vote because as advanced as the US is, people, vote only for two parties - Democrats and Republicans. Why is that?

1. KNOWN DEVIL vs UNKNOWN ANGEL - People tend to go with the party they know or leaders of the parties they know instead of hoping to benefit from new leaders that have not demonstrated capacities.

2. POLITICS is Local - Some areas are just Democratic areas - Urban centers, LGBT communities, and so on...while some areas are Republicans - Evangelicals and Rural

3. SELF Interests - You have given so much to the party structures over the years, and you want to benefit from it, so you still to it. To switch parties, you get a consensus that still provides some sort of self-benefits.

4. RELEVANCY - Even if you don't win with BIG parties, you and the party will still remain relevant. Small parties often fade away if they don't win.

5. FUNDING - Small parties just cannot match the donations and spending of big parties that can mobilize from top to bottom. US Reps and Senators spend a lot of their time raising funds to provide to organizations.

6. SPOILER Vote - Some have voted for 3rd parties in the past, and allowed oppositions to win, so even if they dislike their party, they stick to it because allowing the opposition to win is WORSE if you throw away your votes.

We will see if LABOUR Party can BUCK all these trends. I doubt it because the most popular guys (structures) in all the communities want to stay relevant and they have aligned with the 2 major parties. By end of February, we will see if this election will truly be an exception to the rule.
