All These mad judge that takes all case personal .. Why give capital punishment for robbery that nobody was killed, cause body damage to, nor fire arm.. I feel this is really useless judgement... Which governor would consent the death to be carried out?? It is even Laughable if you ask me

The offence of armed robbery attracts a capital punishment which is death by hanging. The defendant need not kill anybody, so long as it is proved that he was in possession of any weapon in the cause of the robbery which might have caused fear in the heart of the victim. In the criminal laws, there are separate provisions for stealing, robbery and armed robbery. A defendant need not to be in possession of a gun alone during robbery before it can be called armed. Items like cutlasses, knives, scissors, pen, daggers etc are all classified as weapons.

BarrElChapo:

Section 294 and 295 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2011,
“any person who steals anything and uses or threatens to use actual violence to retain the thing stolen or to prevent or overcome resistance to its being stolen or retained, is said to be guilty of robbery. And anyone who commits the offence of robbery shall on conviction be sentenced to imprisonment for not less than twenty-one years, When the person is particularly armed with firearms or offensive weapons or any obnoxious and chemical materials, such offender shall be sentenced to death.”

Try not to be too emotional, this is what the law provides

This kinda explains the rationale behind the judge’s ruling I still think it’s a lil harsh maybe 70 or life imprisonment but the convict is also a cultist and those criminals commit all sort of crimes and atrocities so I guess the judge felt one less loser off the streets and our society.

When you don't know about a topic of discuss, it is good to read to learn. Armed robbery attract capital punishment. The suspect is an armed robber. It just happened that his victim had only N57,000. It could be N57Miiion. Remember a student killed for requesting for his SIM card from an armed robber.

One should not be surprised by a generation that one's trend free Evans a notorious kidnapper and killer.

including Peter Obi self, no politician is a saint when it comes to corruption, they are just better than each other.

That Justice Dada needs mental evaluation nevertheless because I don't see any reason why that guy should spend more than ten years in jail talk less of death sentence, this is too bad.

You're arguing blindly. Why will a judge sentence someone to death for just stealing 57k?

The stupid law has not been reviewed by the justice department since the days of anini when armed robbery rained and the goverment wanted to use the higest penalty to make pple stop........... once u are armed by anything classified as a weapon..if the person is an adult...na death sentence..doesnt matter the amount

Yet someone who stole/embezzled 664bn Naira was initially granted a bail of 750k Naira and later on, got a dramatic presidential pardon.
Judicial Expositions lay bare a very wide contrast between JUSTICE and JUST.

God have mercy on his soul
