I just read a headline somewhere about the decline in sperm quality among Nigerian men. The reproductive system is very sensitive to environmental factors like pollution and poor diet. So best to have children while young.

The bit about life expectancy is also a serious reason to get married early. Life expectancy for men in Nigeria in less than 60 years. Child mortality is high too. Forget research, it's real.

Having many children is a good thing. Think about odds...not of death, but of achievement and talent distribution.

And I'm forever grateful for the fate that brought me to the USA to start life frying burgers in a restaurant...and I thank this country and those whose sacrifices made this nation a reality and hope we who live in it can keep it prosperous and safe.

Have a good day.

Hopefully. I pray too. May God help keep the everyday gun violence in the US in check. People arw losing theirs life and it ain't funny anymore. May God keep us safe

I am shocked by this post. Get married at 30 and have at least 4 kids. Everything you said here contradicts everything you have been saying on nairaland. Where are you gonna get the money to train 4 children in Nigeria?

What do you define as TRAIN four children? I'm curious. Really. Money is NOT everything. The obsession with money as a SOLE solution to things is actually counterproductive. Igbo people have a proverb - to have people is better than having money.

Don't be shocked. You have an opinion and I have mine. Nobody is God, there are goals that can be pursued with dedication and FLEXIBILITY. Life is too complicated to live it in a straitjacket.

For example, someone planning to emigrate would best wait and get to a final destination before getting married, but if that person is 35 years old I would advise to get on with starting a family even if they're stuck in Nigeria.

The OP is 40 abi? If he were my brother I would advise him to try for a couple more children since he has two already, as long as wife is healthy and willing. Children can surprise you in many ways, good and bad. It's up to parents to work for the good and even then nothing is guaranteed. The journey of life requires some courage.

I always remember something my mother said...what you can't get, you can dedicate your life to making sure your children get it and more. And life can be lived happily WITHOUT children too. There was a time I seriously contemplated not having any children at all. To understand this you have to ask yourself what children are for. Life is biology AND mentality. Ideas survive the body. I hope that makes sense.

I made some suggestions and nothing is mandated. The exchange of credible ideas in good faith strengthens all.

Have a good day.

I think the most serious contributor to mass shootings is MENTAL ILLNESS. Go and check.

Mental illness is also a major contributor to homelessness, another topic that people like you always use to criticize the USA.

The question is WHY are there so many mentally ill people in such significant numbers in the USA?

Let me give you a hint. Alzheimers is a mental illness or at least brain disease. It happens mainly to older people and it's an epidemic in the USA right now. There a lot of older people in the USA population and comparatively few older people in Nigeria. Again, why? Put the two together and there you go.

In any case, I feel safer in the USA than in Nigeria. I lived for 10 years in Baltimore MD, one of the most violent and crime ridden cities in the USA. For some years I lived in the poorer areas of the city and I never had reason to worry about my safety. I will feel safer living in Baltimore or any city in the USA than in Lekki Phase 1 Lagos or any city in Nigeria.

Have a good day.

It's not old people that carry guns and shoot sporadically. The recent Walmart shooting, was it an elderly person? The recent shootings where a young boy mistaken address and got shot for knocking on someone's else's door. Baltimore is safe? LoL. I'll chose any Midwest State (as ghosted as they literally are) over MD. Columbia MD is safe, but it's a dead city

Columbia MD is a "dead city" as in how? This is how I know you've never lived anywhere outside Nigeria.

I never claimed Baltimore has low crime, I EXPLICITLY wrote it has one of the highest crime rates in the USA but I still felt safer there than in Lekki, Lagos. I thought that was quite clear? But that wasn't my main point....let me recap.

There's comparatively more older people in the USA than Nigeria and that longevity tends to carry a risk of Alzheimers, a mental illness.

Let me make it even clearer. If you take 10,000 babies born with pychiatric defects in Nigeria and the USA, then follow them for 20 years, which group will have more survivors? In which country do mentally ill people have a HIGHER CHANCE of living a functional life and therefore are able to go buy a gun and know how to use it? The sheer availability of guns is an issue. Put that many guns in Nigeria and I bet the body count will be much heavier. As it is today, the rate of gun deaths in Nigeria is surely higher than in the USA.

Have a good night.

Lol. You can't compare Columbia MD to Baltimore MD. Same way you can't compare Las to Reno both in the same state. Reno is dead to me, LV is alive.

Well, I guess you're right on the gun death in Nigeria>>US

There are legal requirements to work but in practice, the government doesn't really enforce them in the INFORMAL sectors of the economy. Take an example right there in Nigeria....minimum wage is 30K but I know many people earn less than that. It's illegal but it goes on because it's unavoidable.

This is how you know people like Tadadobe, Treadway and Ahiboilandgas have never set foot anywhere in the Anglo-Western world. They have no sense of place or nuance. Like "Columbia MD is a dead city."

Let me tell you, states like Massachusetts, Maryland and California ACTIVELY sabotage the enforcement of federal laws regulating immigration. In those States illegal immigrants get more government services than middle class American citizens. For instance the State Government of California imposes heavy fines on any company that enquires into the immigration status of a job applicant via the Federal Electronic E-Verify system. Blatant illegality, but it's happening. Which is why I don't live in Maryland.

LOL, you're making a joke for sure and that's OK. The fact is, there's a world middle class standard of living today. It means a family

1. owning a home with good water and energy supply,
2. one or two cars or access to affordable and good public transport,
2. access to reliable and affordable communications and
3. adequate and nutritious food and physical security.
4. Also good health and education.

Take 10,000 destitute Black Africans with NOTHING and drop them in Nigeria or USA, track them for 25 years and measure their living standards. Which group will have more people living at the world middle class standard?

Miniature versions of this experiment above have been done for decades. I've seen and experienced it. It's the difference between socialism and capitalism.

The differences have practical results beyond their mere *expression* as ideas for organizing society. When applied, the results are clear as in Nigeria and USA.

Happy Sunday 😊

Ecclesiastes 9:11
"I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, not the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all."

Time and chance. Statistical probabilities. No guarantees. Words of wisdom.

Good public transportat in the US? Are you for real? Most states don't even have train. Except some states in the south. Florida, for instance, I Just building a train that connects Miami - Tampa - Orlando. Last time I was in Orlando for parks and I figured the studio, I suffered in term of transportation

Yeah, believe what you Believe, that's your problem. If you think I've never been to the US, that's your cup of tea. But the truth is that most places in the Midwest America are still largely not that developed when compare to the south and when compare to other western nations

Talon about education as if it's free. LoL. You'd be fine. How many years will it take you to pay the student loan?

Good day Nairalanders
I will be 40 on Oct 19 this year and I am scared the kind of life I have always desired may not be
achievable. Let me list these things that worries me so that you can probably advise me or assist me in achieving any of them.
1) By 40 I had wished I will be living in my house with cars in my garage
Current situation- I am a salary earner who eagerly waits for the salary to drop before my family can eat conveniently every month.
2)I love cars and driving. Was thinking of getting a good car for Uber business.
Current situation- I have not been able to gather enough money to buy a car for Uber or personal use.
3)Seeking greener pasture abroad.
Current situation- I have not been able to have enough disposable income to even get a passport to start with in the first place.
4)Self development. I had interest in programming so I decided to learn coding and all that. I started with free code camp and also this thread by iyenimofe on nairaland has been so helpful https://www.nairaland.com/1383359/learn-web-design-live-nairaland/6#17571611
The issue I have progressing is that of enough data subscription to watch more tutorials.
5)Acquisition of at least Masters.
I have a passion for learning and self development but I struggled to have my HND with distinction. Gathering enough funds to start my masters program has been an uphill task.

Little about my background
I am an HND graduate
I have a sister who am responsible for also.
I have a wife and two kids.
I work 8-5weekdays
