The Senate has done nothing but take gifts from multi choice so they can always have their way. Remember that most of them are share holders
Jackossky:
What has our senate been doing?

There is this school of thought that believes that when FDIs grow to a certain extent, they behave with impunity and influence state actors in that locality

This people mumu no be here. Time without number they have raised this issue of pay per view any time there is upward price review, nothing like pay per view in cable subscription. Only exclusive channel payment is available which is even more expensive. Besides what concerns students with watching cable TV, they should protest for not having light and water in there various campuses.

This is what you get when you have unfocused people fronting as the leaders of NANS.

What business do students have with how a private company fixes its fees and charges?

If anyone should be threatening brimstone and fire, it should be NLC. Nigeria doesn't even have a price regulatory agency to start with.

MultiChoice should pick them up if they come anywhere near their facilities. They should go and read their books. That's why they are in school.
shut up!

Okay, then since you are a trader , I hope you sell your stuff at a loss so that you can help the poor.
They are running at no loss
Unless they are trying to extort Nigerians for their underperforming business in another country

They are running at a loss and yet they spend extravagantly on that BBTitans and BBN?

It ought to be video on demand, and not pay per view.

We are with NANS. They have to reverse to pay as you view or maintain the old prlce.

The exploitation due to monopoly is much to bear.

what nans is trying to say is subscription should run on actual hours watched and not timed monthly.

In other words, when someone subscribes and there's no electricity or emergency travel , the subscription doesn't keep running.

Many South African companies are here to exploit. I remember MTN and Econet told us bluntly there's no possibility of per second billing in Nigeria until Glo broke the jinx.

You don't have to sound stupid and unpatriotic in your effort to appear intelligent

I only said what you explained not possible and not done anywhere in the world. What is applicable in other places is that you pay extra for a certain event like BBN or boxing fixtures. Cable TV technology not like GSM that you are using your money per second. The system on cable TV bill per day. And you don't need to abused me to sound stupid. Thanks

cheesy

NANS should consider that

1.Multichoice has thousands of Nigerians working for them directly and indirectly, and they all want to be PAID WELL

2.The people worldwide who make the TV programees and bring you the stuff you want to watch also want to be PAID WELL.

3.The equipment used to bring you those DSTV shows, were made by people who want to be PAD WELL

4.The Premier league is made up of football players and so forth who want to be PAID WELL

5.Health and other insurance costs a lot of money for workers who want to be PAID WELL.

6. No one in Nigeria has done pay as you go. No country in the world where DSTV is has pay as you go. Because it cannot work for a system where workers want to be PAID WELL.

7. Did TSTV's pay as you go work.? No, because ....PAID WELL.

NANS should realize that when prices go up, it is because a lot of people, not just the rich and mightly...but a lot of poor people who work and pay bills and so forth...want to be.....PAID WELL.

Maybe NANS should set up their cheap version of DSTV and bid for programme rights....or tell their members to patronize STARTIMES. STARTIMES last i checked is VERY VERY CHEAP.

It is only in Nigeria people pay for cable subscription monthly and it runs out whether you watch it or not.. it keeps running just like same south African companies did with GSM back in the early 2000s when you buy credit and it vanishes whether you use it or not.

The problem with people like you is that you use the internet as a palliative to ameliorate your ignorance and low quality exposure.

The Pay-As-You-View proposition is dum.b. It can NEVER work. Dstv decoders and any other pay tv decoder around you (including Strong decoders) cannot support pay-as-you-view. To initiate a pay-as-you-view subscription, then Nigerians should be ready to spend at least 100k per decoder. Why can't NANS do a proper research before this press release?

What are you paying to view? Channels are not classified in the same category. Dstv already offers exclusive channels at extra fees; implying that you can simply pay 3k (or thereabout) for Yanga and pay extra 1k or 2k for your other favorite channels like MNET 1-4. SuperSport channels and Africa Magic channels do not carry the same weight, so you'll need a very smart and sophisticated software in your decoder to decode what you're viewing each time light goes off, each time you switch channels (e.g, from a "costly" SuperSport channel to a "cheaper" Africa Magic channel).

A proper argument would be to mandate Dstv to allow subscribers choose and pay for the channels they want. Each channel should attract unique pricing.

E.g.,
MNET Movies 2 ------ N200/Month
Africa Magic Yoruba ---- N100/Month
Channels tv ------- N80/Month, Etc.

NANS are thieves, Just like NLC they are looking for their own cut in this new price regime of the DSTV. Watch once they get their own share they will lock up. A country of thieves.

At the end of the day, companies have to make profits to pay their workers improved welfare, and at the same time also account for increased prices elsewhere.

Because for DSTV/Multichoice, the prices and cost of doing business have been increasing and will continue to increase year in and year out.

That's life. You don't have to watch DSTV, you can always switch to cheaper alternatives like Startimes.

I don't know people still pay for dstv. I can't remember the last time I subscribed. The only thing I watched on dstv then was football and I watched any football matches live without dstv.

Not that I don't care about the plight Nigerian going through, DStv started price increase in South Africa, to Ghana and then Nigeria now. Multichoice is doing business in Nigeria for profit and not National cake, even startime increased theirs last two weeks.
