Smiles! Are you so sure you know about pollution and pollutants that you opined, they won't travel fast to reach mainland?

I got to pass by the Warri refinery recently. People built their houses and shops around it. So yes, Lagos is the best place, apparently, people don't mind those gases..... for now....

oga, this is a private business not qouta system induced investment. Go make money and choose sambisa forest or atlantic ocean to invest, it will be your choice not any else

Ogun and Ondo also have sea shores, the problem is they dont have an established sea port and that will be an extra cost
Goodlady:

Cos of nearness to the sea which ll aid international movement or oil, it's the best. If he went to Delta or Rivers, established militant base ll disturb him. Now he's to worry about militants that ll migrate to Lagos or those that ll arise in Lagos which can be easily combated.

Dangote Refinery is the Most Environmental Friendly Refinery in The World. Go and Do your Research..
Mrfeel:
How about the environmental pollution it will cause in Lagos , is lagos not too small and crowded for such a big refinery?

I read:
Oil refineries emit large amounts of air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. These pollutants can cause respiratory problems, including asthma, and increase the risk of heart disease and lung cancer etc i think lagos is too small and crowded for such a big refinery

LAGOS is the best place to locate refinery for the following reasons:

Niger Delta Environment is already polluted and degraded by crude exploitation activities.

LAGOSIANS are used to noise pollution, congestion, poor public and personal hygiene. Lagosians are used to shanty / ghetto lifestyle. They are used to harassment by TOUTS and thugs. They are used to a life devoid of human dignity and decency.

Therefore, mere carbon pollution from petrochemical will not be noticed.

Did you just opine carbon pollution as being mere? If the pollutants that would be generated by the refinery would only be those of carbon, it's not even mere. Now to think that numerous pollutants both in compound and single entity; physical and chemical would be generated is more serious than you can imagine. I hope you'd take time to read about pollution sir

So, one man's profit is more important than the wellbeing and environment of the people?

No. Don't react unthinkingly to the utterances of others. The Dangote refinery is not about one man's profit even if the poster you responded to puts it that way.

Dangote will increase his fortune, because the very essence of business is making a profit derived from taking risk others will not, but make no mistake about the fact that Nigeria is the biggest winner by far.

We have all lamented for years that one of the biggest and most fundamental solutions to our problem as a nation, aside constant power supply, is the absence of a functional refinery that can take care of Nigeria's domestic consumption of the derivatives of crude, like PMS etal, to completely destroy the fuel subsidy system.

The fuel subsidy system remains one of the biggest perennial impediment to Nigeria's development since so much money is spent on it that could be used to transform Nigeria if a working refinery ,with optimal production, means we no longer have to subsidise the cost of going to refine our own crude abroad to then make it affordable when it is returned to us as refined derivatives if crude.

The fuel subsidy system is a disgrace to Nigeria and Africa in general as it portrays us as an unserious people who cannot, for decades now, address the most fundamentally basic of problems impeding their growth and development.

Forget that Dangote will make money. The fact is that he has done what the government should have achieved decades ago that will change Nigeria immensely for the better. Nigeriq and Nigerians, for too many reasons than I can list, are by far the biggest winners above Dangote.

The best place is Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta , Akwaibom, Edo, Imo or Abia State. The refinery would have been closest to source of crude and still have enough space but Nigeria is a cruise country.
Lol! You want make Ipob or militants go blow his refinery right

When particulates from volcanoes that burst in South America reach Europe?

Check again.

The norm is to give at least 10km radius around a refinery. The farther away the better.

iammo:

It isn't built in a crowded area... Lekki Free trade zone is an industrial area far away from crowded zone

It's by the sea close to the Atlantic ocean and pollution can't reach mainland Lagos

Ondo state was the second place Dangote took it to when he was rejected in one the south south states; ondo state government under mimiko rejected it too...initially, Aliko didn't even think of taking it Lagos...Kudos to Asiwaju and Lagos state government that allows it stay.
Now you are envy the state, Lagos state is the best place for that refinery to stay.

He wanted to build it in ogun state, the then ogun governor chased him away.
Lagos is business friendly.
Any potential health hazard that may arise would be tackled by the company and the government.

Fail?
Please, tell me how close are Indian and China to Africa where they source crude oil for their refineries?
You obviously know nothing about how refineries operate.

BTW, refineries towns always end up becoming a major urban centre even if starts as a jungle.

Every good thing have side effect except Jesus Christ.

So the refinery is good but the negative environmental impact is not good. But all the same it is a welcome development.

But the refinery will cause pollution in the small crowned city of lagos

The refinery is not in the heart of Lagos.

Infact, it is rumoured to be about a hr or two drive to Ondo State on Bike.

It is about 1hr 30mins drive from the express road to the refinery (note the drive is without any traffic).
