Enugu can look like Kigali Rwanda within 40 years if every Enugu governor builds 2 skyscrapers at the New Enugu Centenary City.

The first 2 photos below are Kigali Rwanda

The second 2 are Enugu currently.

Do we want to keep looking like how we look or should we upgrade Enugu to a modern city regardless of what our neighbouring states are doing?

The first photo shows how Dubai looked in 1960s. Of course everyone knows how it looks today.
Skyscrapers are the most important buildings of the modern era. It was previously cathedrals and palaces. Now it is Skyscrapers. Enugu has zero tall building.
The tallest building in Enugu is NEPA building shown in the second photo. See how it creates a skyline? This thread is about skylines and how they elevate a city reputation and attract big investors.
It also shows how Enugu can achieve a skyline within 50 years. The question is, do we want an Enugu that our children will be proud of?

It will come to pass, with a good governance, if they won't come to enrich their pockets with the funds

Now to the purpose of this thread. Let's say every Enugu governor builds two skyscrapers at the New Enugu Centenary City every 8 years, Enugu will have 10 skyscrapers in 40 years.

The photo here shows The Cocoa house built by Awolowo in 1960s in Ibadan. Do you see how it elevates Ibadan? Now imagine that there are 9 more Cocoa houses built over the years by successive Ibadan governments. Do you now see how Ibadan would have looked?

Have you heard of low cost building? When some one says government should, it could be a PPP a little government presence gives a project credibility.

For instance if the estate has a percentage of government presence and instead of building duplexes, sky scrappers maybe not as tall as the burj Khalifa but something modern, people will invest and it would be a reality and not long after ward you ll see more people invest in it.

The only reason Dubai could accommodate the influx of people daily is because of high rise building, even at that accommodation is expensive Still.

The only problem I see for the success of the project is electricity to run lift and water supply because people can't climb 25 storey by stairs or lack water at that height.

government can build skyscrapers. I have lived in multiple countries and I know a few of the skyscrapers under construction being built by government. In Qatar, in Singapore.
Government can also contribute land alone while real estate companies build the skyscrapers.
What is the benefit of skyscrapers you ask?
What is the benefit of the alternative? In what way has the rag structures popping up in our cities benefited us?
You and I know that skyscrapers are used to make statements of the intention of a city. Even the small development Sullivan chime brought to Enugu with road construction, i know how thousands of people from neighbouring states relocated to Enugu. No need to argue this. No major city in the world doesn't have a skyline.

thanks a million. I was so disappointed in the guy's comment because he's actually a passionate Igbo guy that I admire. I was obviously talking about PPP but he was in a rush to criticise yorubas he couldn't read what I was saying

So low cost building is the skyscrapers ? Is there a housing crisis in the east ? South east almost has saturated housing market , Houdini is one of the least problem in Igbo land

Expect you want to leave in independence layout ,cent city, and few others 250k to 500k can get you standard 2 bedroom flat depending on location

East has no housing issue at all .

it is about the look and feel of a city, which attracts tourism and investments. It is not about housing issues. European cities didn't have housing issues when they started building skyscrapers

the area where these skyscrapers will be located would also have an independent power project different from the other areas of enugu. For instance, how does dangote power his industries?

That is the problem of the black man.
Lemme tell you a story. I was in Ras Al Khaima UAE for a job and we drove past newly built housing units. Theses were unoccupied and If yu know UAE well yu know RAK is not well populated like Dubai or sharjah, yet they have built these houses for the future generation.

So if yu want house scarcity to hit the east like Lagos before the start making plans I think you should stop it.

Now houses are so cost in Lagos cos land were wasted building duplexes and bungalows.

If sky scrappers are not "necessary" besides its beauty then why Eko city abi Atlantic?

Qatar socialist Republic with excess money ... increasing their revenue is not an issue
Singapore ...same socialist Republic, small population, and extremely high revenue

Enugu state makes bared 150 million dollars in revenue for a population of 3 million people minimum

60% of that goes to pay over bloated civil service staffs

So a states that has barely 60 million dollars should invest in building skyscrapers , that can never break even in 300 years ,

The way most Nigerians think is the reason why we are here ...but for an Igbo man to think this way is crazy I am ashamed

lol...people like you are the reason Nigeria has made zero progress in 60 years. Nay sayers with zero practical alternative. I remember how you were insulting igbos here in 2015 because of Buhari. Nobody could call you to order. Now you run around insulting yorubas because of the same buhari. Zero direction.
Now let me explain the poverty circle to you. It starts with you telling yourself you are too poor to save. And because you don't have savings, you can't invest and because you can't invest, you make no extra income and the circle completes with you remaining poor.
In this case, we won't be able to build skyscrapers that could be used as offices and residences of modern, urban igbo youths who have lived abroad and have who have become used to a certain European lifestyle and who can bring in capital and expertise in our state because we are too busy paying an overbloated civil service with our little income. In turn this igbo youths take their investment to cities like Abuja and lagos and go there to build the same skyscrapers you don't want in the east and you go to their instagram page to insult them for abandoning igboland and igboland remains poor and unable to build these skyscrapers. Meanwhile many skyscrapers in Eko Atlantic are owned by Igbos

UAE has money ...Infact they have more money in one year than Enugu has had since it's creation

Let me tell you a story , a very rich man , buys his kids cars when they are 18, worth $800k ...gives the houses , and hold watches , insits they can it fly private jets

A Nigerian civil servant staff family wants he same thing the rich man is doing for his family ... should he save invest grow richer since investment would bring more revenue , or use his salary to buy them what he can ? Or borrow money to give them what they want

Answer me please

That guy is an evil person. UAE wasn't rich in 1980 nor had a the hope of having the world tallest building at that time.
The day I visited the Burj and saw the people trooping there payin 120aed equivalent to 60k naira today was when I confirmed foresight is the way.

So only Lagos should have sky scrappers in Nigeria or what? Or maybe Nigerians dont deserve to live in high rise.

I hope that human lives in a mud house.

Eko city is a business hub. Sky scrapers are occupied by multinational corporations because it's costly to maintain.

Akwaibom has a sky scraper but till date it hasn't been occupied. If care is not taking, in the next ten years it will rot.

There are many giant buildings in Lagos that were never completed, some completed without occupants.

Tinubu tower was serviced by airduct. After awhile, he had to cancel the agreement because he couldn't maintained them.

Do you know how rich Tinubu is?

Do you know what airduct do?
