CHAPTER TWENTY NINE


"You know, I'm still surprised how you're more African in looks while you're brother is more white American. To be honest, I was expecting the typical biracials," Precious said scooping ice cream into her mouth. Deborah chuckled. The ladies were in a restaurant treating themselves to bowls of ice cream, chicken and chips.

"Blame mother nature. That's what is called the madness of the gene, that shit is all shades of sweetness, annoyance and mystery," Deborah replied. She's a svelte, tall, curvy, browned skin lady with a beautiful facial. She has a resemblance with Xavier.

"Talking about the whole science thingy, I heard you're studying Microbiology at MIT."

"Yeah... currently in my third year."

"So how is it going?" Precious asked munching a chip.

"Well, MIT is just being MIT. Stressful, demanding and tasking. That fück just drains the life force out of me," Deborah said and bit off a chunk of Chicken. She moaned. "Damn! This steak is good," she said in pleasure.

"I can't agree less," Precious affirmed. "This guys are good at it."

"Definitely," Deborah said nodding her head. "They really deserve an award for this shit."

"Yeah... maybe," Precious said and shrugged.

"So talking about MIT," Deborah said coming back on track. "The school is great, I love it. One of the best science and tech academic institutions out there but that's where the problem is."

Precious raised a curious brow.

"If you're in Rome, act like the Romans. If you're a member of the royal family, act like one. If you're an MIT student, act MIT... and I can tell you that such requirement is just exhausting," Deborah said.

Precious facial shrugged and responded, "That's life for you. You belong to a particular group, you gotcha act like that group." She shrugged. "It's not as if it's a bad thing though. It actually instils responsibility, maturity, ethics, values, orderliness and self consciousness in us."

"But one can't overlook the fact that, that can be choking," Deborah said. "You're a student of MIT and a lot is expected of you. Intelligence, grit, discipline, speed, skillfulness and what have you. Due to this, they mount so much pressure on you, make so much demands, have so much expectations of you and heap you with immense responsibilities. After all, you're an MIT. In as much as it's challenges and develops us... me, it is depressing and frustrating, I'm not going to deny that," she said with her American accent.

"Well, I get your point and I feel your frustrations but life in general is demanding."

"Pure truths and that's why we just have to buckle up and deal with the challenges and responsibilities, and as Xav will say, that's what make us sentients."

"I can't agree less."

"Talking about Xav, I love the intimate relationship you have with him. Such is not always common among siblings."

Deborah smiled in appreciation.

"Thanks," she said. "We've being like that right from when we were kids. Family first you know."

"Definitely... but how do you cope with his naughtiness?"

"Welcome to the club my dear," Deborah said and gave a hearty laugh. "Yes, my brother can be mad at times but that's what makes him sweet. It makes the whole relationship spicy. Xav doesn't love a boring relationship."

"Swears and he's so full of schemes. And the thing is, this attitude is one that makes him someone you can't get mad at even if you sincerely want to. You just end up seeing yourself being endeared to him. But all in all, he's a beautiful soul and a sweet heart, my ideal."

"That's the Xav charm but let me give you a tip about my brother. You can't wriggle your way out of this. The only way you can survive is to adapt and by adaptation, I mean getting use to it and returning the favours in heavy doses. With this, you won't be the only victim, both of you will end up as the victims by each other, from each other and for each other. That's how I've been able to survive this long with him. It's a jolly ride."

"Noted, stored and locked in my brain," Precious said doing the lock gesture on the side of her head.

"I'm curious, what's your alma mater?" Deborah asked.

"University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I graduated with a degree in Marketing."

"Any plans to go for masters?"

"I never thought of that but considering the nature of things now, I think that wouldn't be improbable," she said pondering. "Fück it, I'm doing it. Thanks Deb, you're a darling. Increasing my academic status isn't a bad idea, it has it's own honour." Deborah nodded in agreement to the last statement.

"And aside that, I'll be exposed to some knowledge which will definitely be handy especially in my business. So yeah, I'm doing it. It's part of my fat plan list," she said saying the last statement with a humour tone and signifying with her hands.

"What about you?"

"As a scientist, there's no option. If you want to be an established and acknowledged scientist, you have to have the necessary degrees and of course the scientific works. Both are paramount. So as someone who plans to run up the scientific ladder as a research microbiologist, I have to get my first degree, masters and doctorate."

"Any plans to be an academian?"

"Noooooo. My desire is to be a research microbiologist. I want to work in the laboratory, not class or lecture rooms, but that doesn't mean if an amazing academic opportunity present itself i won't grap it, I may but that won't stop me from doing my research thing." Precious nodded in acknowledgement.

Xavier's family came visiting. To be candid, she felt her space being invaded but hey, it's his family and besides life is an open phenomenon, so spaces are bound to be invaded, one just have to cope with that. So far so good, the relationship between her and Xavier's family have been smooth especially with Deborah whom she bonded deeply with. The intimacy between the Uwehs was immense. The bond, the affection, the unity were profound. This casted her mind to her own family. Hers had the family relationship no doubt but to the degree of the Uwehs, no, it was miles beneath. The connection present in this family was far stronger than hers. Not that her family was actually lacks love and unity, they don't, as a matter of fact, they're amazing, not ideal though but okay nevertheless. Seeing the Uwehs, she deeply desired such intimacy and she made it a goal to ensure that such would be present in the family she would create with her heart-throb.

"So tell me about how you and my brother happened."

"I thought he must have told you that."

"Yesssssssssssss, he did. He said you met at Xav Group's tenth anniversary, became friends, then feelings started flying around, you proposed, he accepted." Precious smirked, the part that got her was the, "you proposed."

"Well, he said it all but there's a part he left out," Precious said feeling the urge for some strange reasons to tell her the entirety of the story.

"Which is?" Deborah asked raising an inquisitive brow.

Precious went on to tell her version of the story starting from her sex quest and on, excluding the "I was a prostitute" part. She felt that was too much information. She didn't know how Deb might react to that info. The last thing she wanted was jeopardising the relationship she has with Her, Xavier and the Uwehs.

"Wait a minute... imma tryna tell me that you guys met because you were on a self imposed mission to fück him in other to sate a fantasy?"

Precious shrugged and responded, "Yes... but the universe had other plans." She continued her tale as the prospective sister in laws time continued.

CHAPTER THIRTY


"Son, you're an intelligent, matured, responsible, decent and amazing young man and I, we hoped that when it comes to choosing a partner, you'll pick a lady of like nature, but it seems that's far from being the case," a fifty five year old Clinton said to his son, Xavier. They were in the bedroom occupied by Xavier's parents. In the room were Xavier, Deborah, his father; Clinton and his mother; Nicholette who was two years younger than her husband.

"Okay dad, but I don't get you," Xavier replied. Mr Clinton took in a deep breath.

"What you're father is trying to say is, Precious is not the woman for you," Nichollete said.

"And if I may ask, what's the premises that brought about such conclusion?"

"Well," Clinton uttered, deeped his hands in his trouser's pocket and paced around the room with calculated steps. He hoped the engagement would have a positive outcome, the situation at hand was delicate or seemed so. "I got an info..." He stared at his son. "That your girlfriend is a prostitute." Deborah gasped and Xavier sat upright.

"Where did you get that info from?" Xavier enquired.

"An anonymous source."

"Anonymous? What if this source is a fraud?" That was Deborah who was stunned and skeptical at the information. Precious being a prostitute didn't sit well with her, not this Precious, not this amazing soul she had gotten attached to.

"I was given evidence," Clinton said and brought out his phone, he went through it. "Here." He handled the phone to Deborah. In it were pictures of Precious dressed in risque attires with clients, her escort clients. Others were pictures of her kissing or smooching them. There was a picture of her brief bio. Aside that, recordings of hers between her and a client were played.

"Whaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!" Deborah exclaimed, her hands on her mouth. She stared at her brother, stares that relayed tons of messages, messages of shock, disbelief, pity, disgust and curiosity.

"I don't think you're aware of this, cos if you were, you wouldn't be dating that LovePeddler. She's nothing but a gold digger," Nichollete said in her flawless American accent.

Xavier got up and casually but slowly paced round the room. His expression was that of seriousness with a little touch of anger, at least that was what those present could decipher, aside that, nothing. He did a good job at hiding his emotions.

"I don't know whoever that source is but what I can tell you is, Precious isn't a prostitute," he said calmly.

"I get it son. It's heavy to digest but denying reality isn't going to be of help."

"Dad, I'm not denying reality. I'm telling you the truth... what that mysterious source of yours didn't tell you is that Precious is an ex prostitute, that's her past life," he said drawing puzzled looks from his family.

"Yes, that's the truth. When I met her, I met her as a prostitute but we weren't dating then, we were just friends but along the line, thanks to my influence according to her, she changed. She dumped her prostitution and chose a decent path and ever since then she's been progressing on that path. That was when she started her fashion business. Months after she changed was when we started dating," he explained. "That's the reality dad."

"What if she's still secretly doing it?" Nichollete asked.

"If she is, I would have known. You think I've not been looking into that? You think I wouldn't love to know about such details regarding the woman I'm with? I'm not dumb mum."

Deborah let out a deep breath, a breath of relief.

"If that's the case, I have no issue with it. I mean, it's courage on her part to leave such bankable venture behind. It takes a lot of sacrifice, not many escorts will do such," Deborah said. "Besides, it's her past. The focus is the present right?"

"Noooo. You think this is something that can just be swept under the carpet Deb? I thought you're smarter than this. Do you really think all this aren't schemes of hers to slide into Xav's life and wealth? What if she knew that being a prostitute isn't going to get her Xav which made her conjure all this whole transformation bullshit in a bid to get him," Clinton said. He turned to Xavier. "That lady doesn't love you. She's nothing but a modafucking gold digger. She's only after your wealth and not your heart."

"And you knew all this with the few days you've spent here compare to me that have known and dated her for some time now?" Xavier quizzed raising a brow.

"I'm not a novice okay. I know how to detect love, both genuine and fake, and I can tell you for the times I've been with her, she's genuine, her love for me is true."

"Even if that's the case. Even if she's an ex prostitute. Even if she isn't a gold digger. All that doesn't change the fact that Precious isn't right for you."

"What do you mean by that?" Xavier and Deborah asked unisonally.

"Look at you my son. You're one developed, intelligent, responsible and amazing guy. You're an enigma, a motivation. Dating a person like Precious is an insult to your person. You deserve a lady of like nature or at least with a decent background not this one," Nichollete said.

"That's preposterous mum," Deborah exclaimed. "I can't believe such is been uttered from your mouth."

"Mum!!! I can't believe you're saying this," Xavier said flummoxed.

"Hey hey hey, before you start calling me a conservative or labeling me uncivilized, there's something you need to know about reality which I expect you to know. In reality, there's something called class which makes people of certain positions not to relate with just anyone. Now this isn't a case of discrimination or segregation, it's a case of self respect and self worth. The same way you can't give gold to a pig, it's the same way people can't give themselves to just anybody. It's the same way you can't just date anybody."

"My son, you're a developed and evolved man and considering your level of evolution, you deserve to be with a lady with at least a decent past and not one lady who has messed up herself all in the excuse of 'it's my past'. It's inappropriate, it's improper, it's wrong, it's unacceptable, it's a taboo, an abomination, a sacrilege."

"Come on, we are talking about a girl that has fücked hundreds to thousand of men, like what the fück? You never had such a sexually indecent past and you can't have a decent past only to end up with a public tool, sorry, an ex public tool. She should go to men like her. Likes attracts likes anyway," Nichollete spoked daggers leaving Deborah, Xavier and Clinton stunned, riled up and pleased respectively.

"You've spoken nothing but the truth babe," Clinton praised his wife. "That lady isn't worth you. You're better, you're special, you're evolved to be with a lady like her," he said.

"This is bullshit. All this you both I've said are bullshits. Listen to me, I'm evolved, great... but discriminatory, no. I may not have the sexually indecent past as Precious, so? I'm not a kid, I know the kind of woman I want and Precious meets all requirements to be my woman. She may not have met the requirements then, but now she does, thanks to her transformation."

"People do shits in their life, they make a lot of mess in it but along the line they realize how shitty their life is and right there they seek to rectify it but the thing is, they can't do anything about the past because it's one unalterable phenomenon but they can do something about the present and the future, they can change it, so they decide to do so... and if they do so, why judge them by their past?"

"Their past don't define them, their present does because their present is who they are. So it will be wrong to judge people base on their past. Nobody wants to be judged by their past, none of us right here in this room wants to be, so why judge another? It's not as if we all have a perfect past anyway."

"Precious had a sexually indecent past, no denying that but she has a sexually decent present and that's what defines her. Yes, she must have fücked hundreds to thousand of men, but do you really think if she has the power to go back in time and change that, she wouldn't? Of course she will but altering time is a capacity we aren't privileged to possess, so what can she do? The moment one starts attaching his uniqueness, value and worth as a person to mundane things, that moment the person becomes inferior, low, vain. The standard to measure one's worth is way superior than that."

"Being evolved makes me understand all this. So, irrespective of her past, Precious is my woman irrespective of what anyone thinks," Xavier concluded. Deborah clapped in support and admiration.

"Way to go brother. Way to go. I concur," she said amidst her claps.

"Listen son, damn your philosophy but one thing is sure, Precious won't be a part of this family," Clinton said. Nichollete gave an approving nod while Deborah gave a disapproving look. Xavier walked to father and squared off with him, his face in close proximity with his.

"I'm not those men that are controlled by their parents. I'm a man of my own. I make my rules and decisions. Whether you and mum like it or not, Precious is my woman and she will continue to be. You both just have to live with that," he said in a deep tone. He turned around and walked to the door, with his hand on its knob, facing them, he said,

"If you love me, you'll love Precious also, you'll accept her."

He opened the door and walked out, giving it a loud bang all in the name of closure.

"Oooooooooooooooookay, it seems my time here is up," Deborah said dramatically drawing stares from her parents. She walked out.

"What are we going to do? We can't let him make this decision. I don't want a lady with such a past for my son, he deserves better," Nichollete said. Clinton gave a supportive nod.

"You're right," he said.

CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

The words, the arguments, the exchanges, the statements, the conversations and whatever else they're called flew threw her mind. All of them, everything said. It was never her plan and even desires to come across such, but the universe in its bitchy nature do have a way of making certain things occur and so thanks to the universe, she inadvertently came across the discussions of the Uwehs. Unknown to them, why they were deliberating about her, she eavesdropped, not on purpose but by coincidence, and right there she heard the details of their conversations. She had been too stunned to leave causing Xavier to meet her at the door when he left the room. Surprised on seeing her, he grabbed her by the hand and led her to their bedroom where he tried explaining, comforting and assuring her but his efforts left little impact.

Xavier's words were comforting but were of little effect. This was her perception and image at stake here, not just to anyone but to her man's family. How in the world would assurance of love and commitment alleviate that?

If the awareness was bad, then what happened twenty four hours later was terrible. In the confines and security of their bedroom which has become her fortress thanks to the whole drama --- there was no way she could still walk freely in the Xav Mansion at such moments, not with his parents around --- and on the comfort of their bed, she kept herself busy, surfing through social media, only to be hit massively with a viral information about her past on socal media. It was trending, not just trending but all over the globe. Such was a bankable news, one that every media outlet would want to cash in. We're talking about the past, the sexually indecent past of the girl friend of the seventh richest man on earth, not only that, but one of the most prominent global personalities and socialite. It was like the gold rush, but at who's expense? Hers.

She couldn't believe this was happening, she wished it was a dream which would have been better, at least nothing would be real but alas, this was real. It felt like a joke, like someone was playing a prank on her but alas, it wasn't. She desperately wished it was so but unfortunately for her, this was serious... serious and real. Right there, she felt her blood flow in torrents, her skin tighten, the hairs on them straighten like a well ironed cloth, her heart pistoning hard against her sternum causing her breath to be irregular and heavy, streams of sweat poured off her skin despite the air condition in the room. Feelings, feelings of anxiety, fear and despair seized her, overwhelming her and almost choking the life out of her.

No no no no no... this wan't happening... not now? Not fucking now, she thought hysterically.

Xavier and Deborah's comforts did little to ease her. Initially she had Xav's parents to deal with and now this? This was torment. But to be candid, she wondered why such information wasn't released all this while, while the delay and apparent ignorance. Right from the moment her relationship with Xavier went kaboom on the internet and media, she expected the media archeologist to do tons of digging into her life and reveal her past to the world but ironically that wasn't the case. That was enigma to her though. She didn't know the reasons for that but whatever the reasons were, she was grateful, at least she never had to put herself through such unfunny controversy. She was happy and she went about her passionate romance with Xavier but the bitchy universe came knocking and this? Why now? If it had occurred at the beginning, it would have been better, at least dealing with such issue before the jolly ride of a relationship would have been more better rather than having to deal with it now, now that she was in the euphoria her romance has to give. The shit was depressing.

As hours progressed into days, the whole fiasco made the Xav Mansion hot for her, she couldn't cope there, she couldn't survive, she couldn't adapt, so she had to move back in with her girls to the displeasure of Xavier and Deborah --- her allies in the ongoing drama ---- but most especially Xavier whom she spent a great deal convincing. The media drama continued, spreading and gaining momentum. Now and then, there was a news about or related to her. Headlines like;

CHAPTER THIRTY TWO


"Why obim, why are all this happening to me? Why am I been punished for my past?" Precious cried on Xavier while cuddled by him on her bed in her house.

Xavier was speechless, not as if there wasn't any response, there was, but how would he be able to give logical responses in an emotional scenario as this. Where would he start from? What effect would such have? The only sensible thing he could conceive, not just conceive, but also knew was right was just to comfort. Emotional support was the only logical thing among logicals at the moment.

"Why do I have to suffer for what I'm not? Why obim? whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?" Xavier sighed, patting her gently.

"This is not fair. All these aren't fair," she lamented and sobbed silently on him, gripping him closer to herself. The room was quiet except for her sobs that permeated the space. Xavier comforted and kissed her on her hair.

Ten minutes later.

"Jewel," Xavier called, raising her face towards him with his finger. "It doesn't matter what people think, what matters is how I feel towards you, okay."

"I don't give a shit about your past. I have never given and I will never give. You're my woman and that's it. My parents, the media, the world can go all out against you, against your past but all that doesn't matter. What matters is my love for you."

"Remember the vision and the decision we made concerning this relationship, I'm sticking to it. It's us against the world."

"No matter what, never forget, you will always be my priceless jewel."

"Obim," Precious called and released tears. "Thank you but I'm scared, I'm really scared. Stay with me." She cried on him.

"Don't worry, I'm here. Nothing to be scared of. I'm with you every inch of the way."

"Look at me," he said. She obliged. "You, we will scale through all of this and we will come out strong. You will win, okay." She nodded and cuddled him tightly.

"I love you obim," she professed, whimpering.

"I love you Jewel," he professed and kissed her hair, his hands wrapped around her tightly but gently.

"Did you know about her past?" Bem asked.

"Hundred percent," Xavier replied. "As a matter of fact, I met her as a prostitute but along the line due to my influence, according to her, she changed. After her transformation, we started dating," Xavier said and sipped his beer.

The boys and him were hanging out at a lounge, with bottles of drinks and plates of isi-ewu on their table.

"Ohhhhhhhhhh! You never told us this part of the story," Bem said.

"My bad I guess." He shrugged. "I never thought it was necessary."

"So have you ever, you know, been bothered about her past? The tons of men she must have slept with?" Dafe asked, taking in a chunk of spicy steak in his mouth. He swooned at its pleasure.

"Why should he?" Danjuma asked.

Dafe shrugged. "You know, shits like that do happen. One, at times, can't just help but go wild with imaginations, just like in the case of your partner's infidelity. All the details floating across your mind."

Danjuma shrugged.

"Have you?" Danjuma directed at Xavier.

"Why should I?" Xavier said and adjusted himself on his seat. "Whatever happened in her past, stays in her past. Besides, I can't change that, same way we all can't change our partner's sexual or romance past, or the infidelity of our partner, if they committed and we choose to forgive them. So why bother about that?"

"Besides, her past doesn't define her, her present does. Precious is not a prostitute. She may have been but we can't change that, but what we or I can do is to damn that part of her past."

"Everybody deserve a second chance. Everybody deserve a chance to love and be loved. Precious deserves them, and if I can't give them to her especially during this trying time, then I wonder what kind of man I am. Besides, none of us here have a perfect past, we all have a dark part in our past and we all definitely won't wanna be judged base on that. Same applies to my woman."

"Agreed. You've made a point. A good one," Dafe said.

"Aren't you concerned about the whole media outrage?" Danjuma asked.

"Bro, I'm only concerned about Precious scaling through all this. The media is the least of my problems. The media will always go up in flames, people will always react. So why should I be bothered about that? I'm not responsible for such actions from them."

All that was hours ago. The whole fiasco has really been one weighty problem with Precious being the most hit. Seeing her in such down emotional state was really disturbing. He couldn't imagine what she was passing through. The issue with his parents was a lot on its own and now this? The whole media drama was depressing, one that could make someone lose his or her sanity. Insanity, the thought of that freaked him out, not for himself but for Precious. She has been a gloomy version of herself, depressed, frustrated, angry, fear filled and what have you. Seeing her in such pain, emotional pain, gave him the feeling of one being crucified.

Definitely, he was restless, he lacked peace, not when his other half was passing through a lot.
He racked his brain, pacing around in the garden of the Xav Mansion.

He anticipated this, all of this. He knew it was going to happen eventually. God! Being a public figure wasn't funny at all, it was like a curse, a curse on your privacy. He was surprised though why the whole digging never happened at the beginning of the relationship. Why now? The timing seemed suspicious. It seemed someone leaked that information to the media, and it definitely has to be the mysterious anonymous source. The first suspect that came, that dropped on his mind, was Sylvie but when he confronted her, she denied being the one. He had to drop it not because he was convinced but because it was a minor problem compared to the drama raging around him. He just has to give this victory to whoever the sinister figure is. His main concern was coming out of the whole crisis with Precious.

He heard approaching footsteps, but refused the instinct to glance at who it was. He knew who it was from the intruder's walking step. He smiled taking in the aura that graced her presence.

"Hey brother," Deborah greeted. "How is it going for you?"

He smiled, took in a deep breath and replied, "excluding the whole drama, great. Including the fiasco, choked."

"Right," she replied. Silence desended on them.

"I was with Precious," Deborah dispelled the force of silence.

"Any word from her?"

"The usual. She's terrible."

Xavier sighed.

"I know it's a tough time for you both especially her."

"There's no denying that."

"She needs you more than ever."

"I know that Deb," he said. "Isn't that why I've been giving her attention, comfort and emotional support?"

"Please don't take it the wrong way," she said sounding apologetic. "I'm just scared... scared for her."

"I'm not livid at you and I understand your fear," he said and cuddled her. He gave a chaste kiss on her hair.

They remained in such state for minutes.

"If I may ask," she said disengaging from him. "Why haven't you made a public statement about the whole thing?"

Xavier sighed.

"Your statement will really go a long way you know."

He fixed his gaze intently at her for seconds before replying, "I know and I'm planning on doing that."

"When?"

"At my own timing."

CHAPTER THIRTY THREE



The low energy that permeated the atmosphere of the restaurant was one Precious was grateful for. The restaurant still had the busy environment as people went about with whatever activities brought them there; dates, hook ups, business engagements, sightseeing or to be at peace with the battalions in that sac behind their abdomen. Despite the apparent busyness, the restaurant still maintained a calm atmosphere or semi one, but whatever it was, it was one Precious was grateful for and she showed her gratitude by aligning her mind with it, taking in and relishing the peace and calmness it offered.

She gulped the content of the chilled La Casera from it plastic bottle and sighed in satisfaction. Her eyes gazing at the golden liquid in the bottle, she developed a hobby in observing the bubbles of the liquid as they ran upwards to the surface of the liquid, joining themselves to their comrades. It seems it was a case of power play as some of the bubbles dissipated at contact with their comrades on the surface while some stood their grounds. As mundane as such event, it felt to her as a message, but what? Ohhh! She gets it, survival of the fittest, only the strongest matter survives, only the strongest bubbles find and maintain their place at the surface. Isn't the Universe queer? Same principles cutting across various spectrum of reality, be it in the process of biological evolution or the human society or even the world of a soft drink, a liquid which in few minutes will have no place in reality. But the enigma was, does this connect to her?

Gbam! The light sound of a bag, a female hand bag on her table got her attention. She raised her head and stared at the intruder. Great! It wasn't an intruder, it was the very reason she was here in this restaurant.

"Sorry for the delay," Nichollete apologized. "Some things popped up."

Precious facial shrugged in acceptance, although it did little, scratch that, it did nothing to alleviate the anxiety weighing down on her. Why this rendezvous? What is it Xav's mum want to tell me? I hope it doesn't make this already worse situation and relationship worst? She overheated her mind with this questions. Her breath became heavy and somewhat irregular, she squeezed her palms to calm herself. Her mind flashed back to the bubble saga.

Involuntarily, she glanced at the bottle, most of the bubble on its surface were gone leaving few here and there but nevertheless the message passed was the same, survival of the fittest. Only the strong survive. She has to be strong, strong for her wellbeing and sanity, strong for Xavier and their relationship, strong for love and survival, strong for the future and happiness.

"I'm sure you're aware of all the drama you've brought into my son's Iife," Nichollete accused, her voice graciously emitting her American accent.

Precious stared at her fingers, fiddling them nervously against each other. Be strong damn it. It's not your fault you fell in love. It's not your fault Xav accepted you and your past despite everything. Don't feel guilty, her mind chided her or she chided her mind, that itself was complicated but whatever the case, there was a chiding and it involved her. Okay, she was going to do this. With courage she raised her face and parrelled it with the older face opposite her.

"My son has never had controversies, negative controversies, sorrounding his life but alas, that's the case today. Why? Because you chose to carry yourself into his life."

"Please don't take this the wrong way, I don't hate you. To me you're a beautiful soul but you must understand, I'm only being a mother," she said. "Now ask yourself, if you were to be a mother, would you let someone like you, of your past, be with your son?" She asked attempting to play the reverse game.

Now, that was one tricky question. Would she? Precious pondered.

"Listen Precious," Nichollete said, gently holding her hands. "My son is a developed man, an evolved one, one without an indecent past and it will be beautiful if he's rewarded with a good woman, not just any good woman but one with a decent and responsible past. Please grant my son this privilege. I know you love him, but love also involves sacrifice. It'll hurt but it's for the better. Think about it, why will he after having a decent past end up with you, one with an indecent past. It's unfair on all levels," she said.

"Don't you think he deserves a better woman? I know he thinks you're okay for him but that's an emotional decision. He's not being objective. But you can be of help. Leave him. You're not good for him, not with your past. The universe is even in agreement here. Take a look at all the drama your presence in his life has caused, that's a message from the universe."

Nichollete stared at the young face gazing back at her. It reeked of diversity of emotions; hurt, anger, anxiety, confusion, frustration, fear, uncertainty etc. She felt what she was passing through but she had to keep sentiments aside, Xavier must not make a mistake. She was only being a mother, even the young lady opposite her would do same if put in her shoes.

"Think about it, if you're in my shoes, won't you do the same?"

Precious opened her mouth to reply but was immediately interrupted by her,
"You don't have to say anything. Just think over it and please do it objectively. Remember Xavier deserves a woman with a decent past, not your type. They're men for you but definitely not my Xav. If you love him, you will give him that privilege. He deserves it, don't you think so?" Nichollete said, got up and walked off after sharing a long fixed look with her. She hoped this mind play of hers churns out positive results.
