If that's the case, minister...
My reason being that the jurisdiction of a senator doesn't go beyond his constituent... which itself is in a state...
So allowance, project allocation and other financial issues are limited to him and his constituent...
But you see minister, lol... The whole country ooo is under your care oo as regards to your ministry....
Fiscal budget of a ministry is far above that of a senatorial District....
If care is not taken sef, na small thing Governor take pass Minister...
Especially those ministry wey we no dey ever see progress... Eg, ministry of water resources, ministry of women affairs...

Nonsense write up, any minister is at the mercy of senators all that is needed is for the minister to be summoned to the senate committee supervising the ministry and if the minister does anyhow the minster will see anyhow

The question is silly!... How can you compare an individual appointee with democratically elected officer......have you Ever heard that a minister called a senator to panel for questioning? They don't have such powers but senators do! A senator is way higher than a minister in every aspect.

What is the fuse about being democratically elected?
Why don't you look at it from the angle that a minister is nominated directly and doesn't even need any election before being appointed?

Take umahi for example, how would you compare umahi who controls a ministry that the annual budget can be over 700 billionaire naira yearly to a senator that may not even get a budget of a billion naira in a year.

What's the essence of calling someone for questioning when we all know the power to sack the ministers still lies with the executive and not the legislature

All the senators would dump the Senate if they have the chance to become a minister.
A house of rep member would gladly be a state commissioner sef.
Comparing a senator to a minister I repeat, is like comparing a boy scout to an army officer.

A minister is higher in income and status than a senator. A senator represents a micro group of people in a particular state while a minister heads a particular ministry; a section or sector of the whole country. A minister controls the budget of his ministry. The idan is minister.

From the contributions here, it is obvious we all know politicians (ministers, senators, govs, etc) are only there to loot but we seem unconcerned as we commend and laugh. The same people/contributors here will lament on other threats and wonder why things are not working well and economy is in shambles.

The fact is, we all know but we are either defeated physcologically and we think there is nothing we can do or we're even worse in character than those politicians.

For a career politician, a minister position exposes you to both service to the people and continual interaction with the public. This increases one's chance of being relevant in national politics.

As for me I go with the senator because a minister is an appointment while that of a senator is an elected position. In terms of job security I will chose a senator. Tinubu fit sleep wake up and drop all the ministers but can't do that for senators

Politically, in a state like Edo for example, Oshiomole is the leader of the party in that state and not the minister from that state.

Normally Oshiomole will be the party leader in the state. In a state where the opposition for example (PDP is in power) an elected person at the federal level automatically becomes the leader of the party in such state. In a case where they are up to 2 or 3 elected APC senators or no elected person(s) at all, they will check who is the most ranked party member.

Senators are members of the legislative body (the National Assembly), while ministers are part of the executive branch and are appointed by the President to head various government ministries, and they are also exposed and recognized internationally. Minister is like the president in his ministry.
Sometimes,he doesn't not touch his or her emoluments because of lobbyist's massive 'gifts' and other extras in order than they can get contracts and favours from him.
Minister has a lot of people that he controls and affects more than a senators.Think about the convoy and most especially his closeness to the federal power.
They are just almost as powerful as the governor.Governors can control senator mildly and he can cause his downfall in elections.
Not so with a minister.You remember Amaechi and Wike as a minister.
A senator will rather even be a junior minister than a senator.

How can any sensible human being compare an elected office to a mere political appointment that you can be sacked at any time without explanation?

A minister is nothing, the only thing that make Nigerian political criminals prefer being a minister to being a senator is because of the corruption and looting they plan to engage in as Minister since they will be controlling ministry's budget.

An elected office is far bigger than a mere appointment which a Minister is.

A minister is a representative of the president who heads the executive branch. A senator duty is simply to vet projects of the president which in most cases is brought in by a minister. Similarly, even supreme court judges are vetted by senators because that's the law. The same law makes it clear all the arms of government are equal except for the president of course.

In short, a Minister comes in the name of the president so has more power to do stuff but a senator can only talk and vote. Been a minister is definitely an upgrade

You lack wisdom.

A lawmaker is bigger than an ordinary appointed Minister who can be fired at any time without any reason.

You cannot fire a Senator but you can fire a Minister without explanation

A Minister is a mere errand boy of the President who is at the mercy of the President while a Senator is an elected official just like the President.

Based on Nigerian setting of corruption, a Minister stand opportunity to loot more than a Senator. That's the only ground a Minister enjoys more than a Senator but in hierarchy of political power, a Minister is an errand boy that can be fired at any time the President and his kitchen cabinet wishes.

oga ministerial appointment is on federal higher than any state appointment you can as well rate them with governors because some ministries annual project is bigger than some states' allocation you cant compare a minister for example power with a state party chair o wrong na

In terms of decision-making concerning their ministerial duties, ministers have an edge, they can give orders and they can change existing rules or laws but a senator can not enact laws or orders but by consensus orders and laws by the house.

It's just like comparing a state house of essembly member to a commissioner

The Nigerian senator has no power, influence except when they are in group or committee.

A Nigerian minister can do and undo, the whole ministry is under his personal watch and baba controls annual budgetary allocations and everything that comes with it.

You can't compare a senator to a junior minister and it's not possible for a minister to leave his ministerial position for the senate but a senator can leave his seat to be a junior minister.

Hor is worse, a house of reo member can relinquish his position to be a commissioner in his state.

*the only difference between the Senate president and floor member is his hierarchy in govt.
Some floor member senators are more Influential than the Senate president.

Per head we know a single senator has less power over a single minister, but then senators are like “pack of wolfs” collectively comparing group of senators to group of ministers its the Senator. Same senators can also play a role in the impeachment of a sitting president of Nigeria.
Same budgetary allocation also passes through the Senate abi you forget.
A single senator can’t dismiss or sack a minister but in groups a minister can be summoned and be sacked, while a single or group of ministers can’t summon or sack a senator
