The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has confirmed the clearance of almost 60,000 passport backlogs within four working days.

This is in response to the directives given to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) last week Thursday by the minister, to clear all pending passport applications.

Alao Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister, quoted Tunji-Ojo as disclosing this on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, on a courtesy call.

According to him, the visitation was informed by her ministry’s need to collaborate with the interior ministry to drastically reduce human trafficking and other related challenges.

“We are not just working on humanitarian endeavours as human trafficking, our NIS must help us change the story, completely.
“When we came on board, the passport crisis was an embarrassment. And, we said: it cannot continue.

“As of this morning, I can tell you that about 60,000 passport backlogs have been cleared, specifically 59,906.

“On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, when I gave the 2-week ultimatum, we had over 200,000 backlogs.

“We have recorded progress, and I maintain my word, that those backlogs must be cleared.

“So, you can be assured that our ministry is ready to work with you on any solution we consider thoughtful and progressive like the ones you have shared.

“We may only have to expand it to include the welfare of inmates in our correctional homes as they are Nigerians as well.

“Let’s see how they can benefit from your welfare packages. Of course, there is a lot we can achieve together, ” Tunji-Ojo was quoted as saying.

Now you see what we've been saying? There are saboteurs in virtually all Government agencies.
They sabotage Government's efforts because of the peanut backdoor monies they realize.

Shoutout Hon. Tunji-Ojo. In fact, heads must roll in NIS and NIMC, Nigerians go through hell at their hands.

They have a demonic wording for their malpractice, they call it “fast-tracking”.

Good one.

Now people should start confirming if there has been changes in the passport issuance within the next few weeks.

Like that, we can commend the minister for a job well done and we also advise that he keep up the pace.

If possible, they should make use of banks within a locality as the point of collection of passports. This will cut down the middleman NIS official that charge fees just for passport collection speed up alone.

Poor people, they're clearly overwhelmed by the number of applicants they get everyday.

People are struggling to leave the country, and for them to do so, they need a passport. Imagine having to process thousands of passports everyday.

They're trying biko.

The backlog and delays are responsible for fueling the corruption.

When getting it within 72 hoyrs become a norm, most people won't need to rush and be anxious and that will gradually reduce the prompt demand.

I believe this info small,just last week they sent info about some passport missing since last year april at the new york embassy that they were found and the owners should come forward to claim them,I was like how did that happened?

I hope this tempo is sustained.

All the past interior ministers failed woefully in this regard.

Getting your own Passport as a citizen is as if you’re applying for a US Visa, depending on your pocket and State office.

The corruption in Pasport offices across the 36 States is deep rooted, worrisome and dangerous to our advancement.

Thar means they have been achieving a clearance rate of 15,000 daily. Over 10 working days, that qill be 150,000 passports. They may need more time unless they mean 15 working days.
