When Buhari says subsidy is a hoax nobody believed him.
See now, how can something that is real be repeatedly removed ?

The term "subsidy removal" is just a smokescreen behind which govt can hike prices of that commodity without having to account for the revenue they raise from the price hike.

By calling it subsidy removal they make it seem that they are not hiking prices but just taking the subsidy "gift" they had graciously given.

To really understand that use of the term in Nigeria is fraudulent , is to understand that there is not a single instance in Nigeria history where a government announced the the subsidization of fuel.

YaraDua and Buhari slightly reduced fuel prices but they never called it subsidy because it was not. Subsidy is when you sell a commodity at a cost lower than it costs you to deliver. No govt in Nigeria has ever subsidized fuel.

Never ever trust a Nigerian politican

APC has gone back to bad economic practice, so to speak.

Like I said, Nigerian politicans prefer subsidy...because they want to be voted back into office. Not because they want to leave behind a legacy that would benefit Nigerians.

At the end, the same old show continues.

Won't be surprised if it was always there.

No Nigerian leader has been courageous enough to totally deregulate the downstream. Even Abacha never tried it. It is far easier to keep subsidy than to remove it totally

Even though it is wrecking our economy, and fuelling the corruption and mess in the oil sector, and has cost us 4 working refineries in 20-30 years. And worsened our deficit over the years.

Nigerians love cheap fuel. That includes Tinubu and APC leaders and their followers...and their opponents too.

Buhari was paying subsidy for us to buy fuel at 160 tinubu is paying the same subsidy yet price of fuel is almost 700 per litre, make this make sense to me.

When even countries like China are now creating aircrafts to go to the Moon and planning for mars. .

When most developed nations are already producing systems and cars that are eco-friendly. . No need for fuel. .

Nigeria (My dear country) (So-called Giant of Africa) is still struggling to have one single oil refinery to distribute refined oil to her citizens.

God have mercy on a black man. .

Subsidy has always been there.

If there was no subsidy really, by now fuel would be costing between N800-1000 or more. (Niger republic has fuel at N1000 and Ghana is almost at N900 PER liter. No subsidy, working refineries in both countries). In 2015, June, for example,if there was no subsidy, fuel would have been over N130 per liter instead of the N87. In 2012, January, fuel would have been above N100 instead of the N65 it was there.

There always has been a subsidy. The hoax is the corruption inherent in the thing. Free government money promotes a lot of evil.

Because of hatred towards ourselves we don't even know how to criticise constructively. What we see in every of our criticism now a date are hatred, bad thought, nepotism, bigotry, etc.

Even if the subsidy is back as it was mentioned in the above news. Is it bad or good?
The fluctuation in the price of crude globally and the effect of high exchange rate must surely increase the price of fuel.

What I want somebody reading my epistle to know is that this administration is not in anyway finding it interesting to pay for any subsidy. The #169 billion plus they pay is for this administration not to add to the already created hardship in the land.

According to the new subsidy analysis, if fuel is to go back to #197 per litre. That means FG will be paying #569 billion every month to subsidies fuel for few citizens and oil cabal in Nigeria.

Nigeria, je ki ori e ko pe oo.

Even if the exchange rate reduce as reported, there's nothing that would effectively stabilize the price regime of PMS until the refinery is operational to refine the crude for local consumption and export purposes.

Not the same subsidy.

Subsidy is not a fixed amount as oil price continues to fluctuate.

What this news is reporting is that the government is secretly paying the amount of subsidy that will keep the price at N620, otherwise the price should have risen higher if the government left it to market forces.

As I have always maintained, dem never born the person that can successfully remove subsidy before we start a full local refining of all the fuel we need to consume within Nigeria.

That is simply because Nigerians cannot afford soaring fuel prices that seem to affect every other commodity or service in the country.

Until we can sever the links between fuel price and cost price of items, and dollar-Naira exchange rate and the cost price of items, we will never have a grip over our economy.

Tell me where a govt has ever announced that they are selling fuel a price lower than it costs them to produce because that is the meaning of subsidy.

Stop lying Buhari never called that subsidy removal and never made any such announcement. Buhari always insisted that fuel was never subsidized, so increasing fuel price to N145 was a price hike (which is all it was) but not called subsidy removal because you cannot remove something that was never there.
