INEC says IREV not for results collation,

The Independent National Electoral Commission has insisted that electronic collation of results is illegal in Nigeria.

The commission said this against the backdrop of expectations that the results of Saturday’s off-cycle governorship elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states would be transmitted electronically.

The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, made the clarification to one of our correspondents on Wednesday.

There has been a clamour for electronic transmission of election results in the country with the issue forming a core plank of the presidential election petitions filed at the Presidential Election Petitions Court by the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party.

But Oyekanmi clarified that the result viewing portal was not for collating election results or determining the winner; neither was the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System an electronic voting machine.

When asked how results from the polling units would be transmitted after voting had been concluded in the governorship polls in the three states, Oyekanmi explained, “Polling unit election results, also known as Form EC8As, will be uploaded directly to the INEC Result Viewing Portal from the individual PUs by the presiding officers after the close of poll and declaration of results at that level.

“Presiding Officers are expected to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System to snap the Form EC8A and upload the same to the IReV after the conclusion of all processes at the various polling units.

“However, people need to understand that the IReV is not for collating election results or determining the winner, while the BVAS is also not an electronic voting machine.

IReV portal
“To be sure, electronic voting or collation of results is illegal in Nigeria at the moment. All that the IReV portal does is just to display the Form EC8A uploaded from the polling units for the public to see.

“The process for determining and declaring the winner of a governorship election is well encapsulated in section 179 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

At this point, it will be wise for INEC to just stop issuing these contradictory press conferences and focus on conducting their selection process. Are they implying that they do not rely on Form EC8As for declaring the winner (after all, that's what we expect to see on the iREV) undecided

Which of the definition of 'collate' does iREV not do that makes them utter such careless assumptions that it is not for collation..are they educated at all? After all these weeks and they can't use their terms properly 😑

APC and INEC run Nigerians street, for now I am not supporting any candidate coming out for any election, especially in 2027, APC has done a full state capture and don't need your votes to get into office, democracy has been killed in Nigeria.

If any politician will get my support, it is either you are plotting a coup or you are planning a war, or you want to pray like Elijah abi Elisha that stopped rain for 3 and half years, anything less than that to me looks like a waste of time with elections and INEC.

Otherwise, only those that get paid will go out to vote, nobody with sense will be eager to vote in an election process that won't be clear. Large voter turnout should be expected

What's the importance of IREV and BVAS in checkmating electoral fraud if both multi billion naira project like that are completely useless in election.
What Tinubu and useless Agbado sycophants have brought to Nigeria.
If revolution does not happen now, War is imminent because Agbado and crew cannot take 1/4 of this rubbish when they go out of power.

Apart from the Constitution....there's also the Electoral act that sets guidance for INEC.
In all acts or laws..there's the definition of terms section where meaning of terms used in the act are defined.
Get the electoral act and look for the definition of collation....don't rely on this dictionary meaning

All thanks to the stupidity of the Nigerian Supreme Court that couldn't reprimand inconsistent INEC.

I won't be surprised if after using an electronic calculator to add the figures at collation centres you will still say the figures are illegal. Must it be a long manual addition like kindergarten pupils do?

Now electronic collation is now unconstitutional? See where they have landed electioneering and democracy in Nigeria today. Meaning voting is useless.

Goshh... it's unfortunate that after queueing up for hours to cast your votes, your votes still don't count.

After budgeting billions of naira, Only the court now decides who becomes who, not the electorate.

Nigerians stop wasting your precious time on election day because it will never count.

Until there is a credible electronic system of voting where votes can be displayed in real time. Count me out of elections in Nigeria.

Let the courts continue to decide for us.

See, democracy that we are supposed to be enjoying like others in different parts of the world. Black has turned it to something else.

Something is fundamentally wrong with a black man.
