All the Apostles except John were killed for their testimonies about Jesus Christ. Apart from them, others who died for Jesus Christ were: 2. Several of the seventy appointed by Jesus Christ(Luke 10:1). 3. Others who were martyred were Erastus, treasurer of Corinth (Romans 16:23), Aristarchus the Macedonian(Acts 19:23), Trophimus the Ephesian(Acts 21:29), Barsabas who was surnamed Justus(Acts 1:23) and Ananias, the bishop of Damascus, whom Jesus Christ sent to restore sight back to Saul after Jesus Christ intercepted Saul on his way to persecute Christians (Acts 9:10). Timothy, the spiritual son of Apostle Paul was martyred in 97 AD when the Ephesians were celebrating a pagan feast called Catagogion. Timothy blocked them as they were doing their pagan procession, and rebuked them. They descended on him and beat him so badly he died 2 days later. This happened during the reign of Emperor Domitian. Timothy was the overseer of the Church in Ephesus. |
According to the Bible, those who suffered or/and died for their faith in Jesus Christ would make it to heaven to be with Jesus Christ for ever. According to the Foxes book of martyrs, the disciples of Jesus Christ were so convinced about who Jesus Christ was and that He is the saviour to the extent that they chose to die because of their testimony of Jesus Christ rather than deny Him. They were given opportunities to deny Jesus Christ but they refused. They had been with Jesus Christ and were eye witnesses to who He was. They were so convinced that instead of denying Him, they rather die to drive home the truth that Jesus Christ is the son of God who is the saviour of mankind. In those days, if you were so convinced about something, you could give up your life as a final declaration that what you are saying is true. That was what the disciples of Jesus Christ did. 1. Peter According to an early Christian writer call Hegesippus, Caesar Nero wanted to put apostle Peter to death for believing that Jesus Christ is the son of God who died to redeem mankind. Peter was ready to be killed because he was so convinced about his testimony. Being filled with the Holy Spirit, he was able to see the truth about Jesus Christ because of the revelations God gave him about Christ. He wanted to go join Christ in His kingdom in heaven. But some people begged Peter to flee. He refused. After enormous pressure from his people, he decided to leave Rome. When he got to the city gate, he saw Jesus Christ walking towards him. He knelt down and asked "Lord where are you going?". Jesus Christ answered "I have come to be crucified again" By this, Peter understood that it was his time to die for Jesus Christ because Jesus Christ had already told him (in John 21:19) that Peter would die to glorify God. Peter then went back to the city and was captured. When he was crucified, he asked them to crucify him upside down because he didn't consider himself worthy to be crucified in the same position as his Lord. Peter sealed his testimony of Jesus Christ by dying for Jesus Christ. Before then, he convinced some people about Jesus Christ by performing miracles in Jesus Christ name. Finally he allowed himself to be crucified to show that he was speaking the truth of which he paid the supreme price. After his death, so many people were converted to the faith which inspired such bravery in Peter. |
lomprico:Jesus Christ said in John 10:17-18 "... because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. ... I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it again". So dying and rising again was all in His power. |
To me, I consider His act of dying and rising again from the death His greatest miracle. Prior to that, He had been raising people from the death. He decided to show to the world that He could conquer death, so He allowed Himself to be crucified, lost all His blood which is necessary for life, yet He resurrected and live without any blood to show to the world that there's nothing He cannot do. He conquered death by dying and rising again. The blood He shed is still available somewhere in the universe to wash the sins of people and to protect people. Because in the old testament time in Israel, blood of animals was used to wash sins and to protect people. So Jesus Christ Himself decided to provide a more perfect blood by providing His own blood During the final supper with His disciples, He gave them bread and wine which He called His body and blood. So He was the perfect sacrifice. Before then, the body and blood of animals were used for sacrifice while parts of the body was then eaten. [color=#000000] Jesus Christ is the perfect sacrifice to God in order to make peace between sinners and God, as the Bible says. His death and resurrection is therefore His greatest miracle. I am always very happy to see Rev Uma Ukpai. |
Apart from my mum who has given me huge sums of money (like in 2016, she once gave me N150,000 as pocket money) In 2019, she gave me N120,000. She had been giving me money always when I was an undergraduate. Apart from my mum, the only people who have ever given me money were females and one male. During my undergraduate days, the wife of a professor gave me N500. During my NYSC in Kano, a female banker gave me N500. That was like N3000 now. When I started MSc in Sokoto, one woman from my state gave me N500. That was 2013. When I started work as a teacher in a private school in Sokoto, the proprietress saw me once and gave me N1000. A male professor saw me in 2019 and gave me N500. So the highest amount someone has ever given me, apart from my mum, is N1000 (One thousand naira) Bye. |
Just move back to your village. Don't bother pleading with him to unlock the door. When the strike is over, just come back and rent another room. By then, you must have gathered some money. Tomorrow, you may even be richer and better than him. |

MrBrownJay1:Ok Sir. Thanks. |
Bluntguy:Slapper and slappee. Very funny words. I remember one funny statement I heard today. Someone said: If I die and you no die, make I die. As in: If I die and you don't also die with me, let me die. Very funny statement. Thanks. |
illicit:Ok Sir. Thanks. |
Recently, I watched a video where a UK based Nigerian woman said in the UK, some families still spank their children but that so many of such families leave the spanking to the wives. Because, according to them, it is not proper for a daughter to see her father flogging someone as it could have a psychological effect on the daughter at the time and in the future. I think it is because female children don't believe that male adults can be violent. Female children tend to fear female adults and are often more relaxed around male adults. Therefore seeing a male adult, especially the father, engaging in a violent act could have some lasting negative effects on her. Female children don't have a problem with a woman engaging in a violent act because naturally, they expect a woman to be strict. When I was a teacher in a mixed gender school, I didn't use to beat any student because I didn't want to frighten the female students. Although when I taught in a boys-only school, I didn't flog a single student because my reason was that I don't beat children. But when it was a mixed gender school, my reason was that I didn't want to frighten the female children. It was recently when I watched the video that I know that the mentality is also shared even by UK people. What is your take on this? |
I believe if a man can be truthful to himself, he would discover that a woman who is strong, rich or connected is attractive. It doesn't mean one woman would be strong, rich or connected at the same time. But if she has any of these, it's an attraction in itself. A woman does not need to be weak with low IQ for you to feel attracted to her because of the possibility of controlling her. Anything or anyone that is attractive must have some or all of these qualities: strength, wisdom, power, inner and outer beauty. He or she must be caring and loving. If as a man, you don't believe a woman should have any other quality except outer beauty, then sorry for you. There is a man who dated a woman who liked carrying him from the parlour to the bedroom whenever he fell asleep in the parlour. Some men were condemning him for marrying a woman stronger than him. Yet the man's marriage was better than those men's marriages who married weak and dumb women whom they hope to control. |
So many women are very strong. I remember when I used to go for taekwondo training at the Uyo sports stadium in those days. There were so many girls of 16 to 25 years who came for the training. Some were even older than 30. We didn't pay any Kobo. All one needed was to come to the stadium by 7am to join the training. So many girls came to be trained. Sometimes, the coach would pair a male and female to fight. Half of the time, it was the female who won. You must give your best, otherwise the coach would punish you. I advanced from White belt to the Brown belt before I left for NYSC. When people say that men are more powerful than women, I know they don't really know what they are saying. Maybe a man is more powerful than women in the ratio of 51:49. That means if a male is fighting with a female, almost half of the time a woman would win if both of them use all their strength to fight. How can a man just claim he is stronger than all women when he has never fought with a woman before? Men just like assuming things because of unnecessary ego. As a man, you believe it is a man's world yet you cannot see a woman passing on the road and command her saying "Hey come and clean my house". If you cannot command any lady you see on the road to do something for you, then it's not your world. STOP LYING TO YOURSELF AND FACE REALITY. You believe that women are inferior to you, yet there are thousands of women richer and more connected than you. |

If she is Yoruba, she will surely enjoy Sokoto because there's no way you enter into Sokoto and you won't see Yoruba people in all streets. Infact if not that we know that Sokoto is a Hausa Muslim state, you would think you are in the south west. Ibos are very few in Sokoto but Yoruba live in almost every corner of Sokoto capital. It shows that there is something special in Sokoto that's drawing the Yorubas. In Usman Dan Fodyio University, Sokoto, you will hear Yoruba language in almost half of all conversations between students. So she would find the state exciting if she is from the south west. Moreover, the state is safe. |
I went to that zoo in Kano on 31st December, 2021. That zoo is really a place to relax and see different animals. |
Femi8586: bigpriik:His moniker is PerformOrResign. I always just knew that great people are in Nairaland. When I started this thread on there being great people in Nairaland, some people were abusing me. I tell you the truth: There are former and current senators, ministers and leaders here in Nairaland. Some of them come as guest, just to read the news. Some of them are registered members. |
squash47:You should go there mhen. I served there mhen. You will really enjoy there mhen. There are so many Igbos and Yorubas there mhen. Millions of southerners and Christians there mhen. Particularly in sabon gari mhen. When I got posted to Kano, I wasn't happy. But I told myself, what is the essence of being born in my state and during NYSC, I still feel that I should serve in my state? Why not go outside my state and experience life somewhere else at least for one year? It could be that serving far from my state is an opportunity to experience a different kind of culture and tradition. When I arrived Kano, I heard it from people there that: Kano is a place which when you get posted to, you are not happy about it. But when you reach Kano, you don't want to leave. I thought it was a lie until I discovered that it was true. It was as much as I could do not to stay back permanently in Kano after service. In Kano, I didn't even feel I was in the north because every where I went, I saw people from my state. During Christmas in those days, you would see how thousands of people would just be traveling to the south and luxurious buses would travel almost like a convoy because of the number of people who would be traveling. When the buses park along the way, maybe in Lokoja or Abuja, there is nothing that can compare to the joy of mixing up with many other passengers while eating and drinking. Oh the joy of those days. There was no Boko Haram, bandits and kidnappers in those days mhen. |
Hassanmaye:Yes, after the Masters degree I got the job. There are many people who are lecturing while they are running their Masters or PhD. So many of them are sponsored by tetfund and some are using their own money. |
LogicBomb8:The same way someone said that you and your family are suffering from brain damage. |
Glowqueen3:No. The school is in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. My state of origin. |

Don't worry, you would get something better than that. Something like that happened to me when I was teaching in a private secondary school which was paying me N18,000. The school proprietor said there should be no flogging and punishment of students. We were trying to control the students without flogging, punishing or shouting on them and you know it is not easy. One day, he came to my class and heard the students making noise. Without warning, he went and brought sack letters to me and another teacher saying we cannot control our classes. He erroneously believed a teacher's presence should make all students quiet and that even when you are not beating or punishing them, they should all be quiet. But that was not the case in that school. Most of the classes that were quiet, the teachers there secretly beat or punished the students. Although I started working in another school almost immediately after the sack, I made up my mind to go for further studies which I did. The new school allowed us a little freedom to go outside the school and I used the opportunity to go for further studies. I later resigned completely to face my studies. Now, God has blessed me with a lecturing job and it's because of that sack because I would have still stayed there since the school doesn't allow you to go anywhere, not to talk of starting a Master degree When last I went to the school, most of the teachers who were my colleagues are still there. |
Nigeria is now leading and the world is following. For UK to copy Nigeria shows that Nigeria is taking over the world in leadership. ![]() On a serious note, Nigeria is about to start enforcing it's leadership mantle. Someone wrote that: the mantle of world leadership was handed over to Nigeria when 2 planets aligned with each other in the seventh house of astrological zodiac. According to him, this planetary event characterized the handing over of world leadership from the US to Nigeria. |
On every Valentine's day, I usually pray to Jesus Christ and told Him how much I love Him because He first loved me and paid for my sins. Then I will tell Him I want Him to be my Val. I will then go out and buy food or gift for a beggar with the belief that I am buying it for Jesus Christ because the Bible says whatever we do to the least of the people, we are doing it to Christ. I have been doing so for the last many years. What is your take on this? No insult please. |
Which kind of problem is this? Imagine calling off their 7 months old strike by December, 2020 and it is barely one year and they are going for indefinite strike. That means someone who was in the first year in 2017 may not graduate by 2023, due to the Corona virus lockdown and all these strikes. Anyway, I already have my Masters degree. Any day they call off their strike, I will continue with my PhD. |

1) For me, I have learnt that as far as this life is concerned, nobody can claim monopoly of anything. For example, so many people were thinking that Egypt will defeat Senegal in penalties because Egypt were good penalty takers with a good penalty safer as keeper. But Senegal were able to prove that no one can claim monopoly of anything or situation in this life. 2) I saw a video of a prophecy that Egypt would win the trophy. But once again, God has proved to people that we should focus on him alone and work hard. We should stop listening to any human being. If someone prophesies to you that you will suffer or have problem, don't mind him because it may not come to pass. The prophecy meant that Senegal would lose, but they won. We must do our best to succeed and don't believe anyone who prophesies that you would not succeed. What have you learnt? |
