@Pain
If Jonathan aim to make the Ijaw nation what you claimed, then he has my full support for his methodology. What is one Nigeria where people are not living up to their potential? Every well meaning citizen should work towards bringing Nigeria to the negotiating table. CARRY GO GEJ

Hw can they even concieve of such a bad idea? What is Jonathan doing for God's sake. He wants them to go back to kidnapping, robbery and all d vices we've been trying to combat. Have all d bad roads been repaired? Have more jobs been created? God help us o! With this kind of plan, hw do u encourage our ppl in diaspora to return when we are about to increase crime rate?

This is a STUPID move!!!

These Okada people are running a legitimate business trying to survive despite the corrupt governments of the past 40 years that has almost destroyed this country!

If these hard working business people are now made redundant due to STOOPID crooks in Abuja claiming to be elected officials crime will rise and the average people will continue to bear the brunt.

I hope the state governments show some backbone and over rule this - we are supposed to be a federation not a dictatorship.

I am sure that Fashola knows what is best for us in Lagos rather than the mumu called GEJ stuffing his FAT face in Abuja with stolen money.

those who are vested with the power to outlaw the means of livelihood of other people, should also possess the power to creat the employment that will re-absorb those made jobless by such decrees.
Re: Motorcycles (Okadas) Banned Nationally From December 31, 2011? by Sagamite(m): 4:41pm On Dec 02, 2011
That is rubbish!

Ban it on major roads and cities.

And only ban it when you are able to provide equally cheap and adequate alternatives for the utilisers.

Finally, it has to be done after a period of at least one year's notification.
Re: Motorcycles (Okadas) Banned Nationally From December 31, 2011? by mikepeace(m): 4:41pm On Dec 02, 2011
This must be a joke, shame on this Government if this is to be true, this is funny, how can u just wake up one morning and ban something like okada? Does the government realise that the population of okada ridders in only lagos state is more than the population of all the Nigerian bank staffs taday.

This is stupid, how can u just do that without providing what this people will be doing as a replacement job, before u do this kind of thing u have to first provide more than enough job for this okada ridders, and then announce that this is the job created for u guys in replacement of okada ridding, and then give them at least one yeah for everyone to switch to the new job, of which after that u can ban the okada with the justification of the job creation for them, though u have to also put into considaration why people patronise this okada, it is simple, there is no many road network in the country and the few we have are really bad, sometimes like in lagos poeple should have always missed their flight if not for the help of okada, and thats because of heavy traffic as a result of not having many alternative roads to use.

Government should stop this nonsense and start trying to repair this country, unless they just want to use this to trigger the revolution.
Lets wait and see!

I wonder this is just silly its not like its Illegitimate, so that means one morning they will wake up and ban taxi's I'm sure they will even ban pedestrians from walking on the road  grin, its not even about job what happens to those of them who don't have formal education what is the use of white collar jobs to them? They are doing something legitimate to survive and one f00l on the other end is doing anything that enters his anus .

The time for the Mother Of All REVOLUTION (in Africa) is NOW! I have always prayed for the government of JEGA to stir up the bottled anger in the poor masses.  Isn't it going to be a beautiful sight to behold well over 500,000 Okada Riders protesting in Lagos State alone?
Re: Motorcycles (Okadas) Banned Nationally From December 31, 2011? by JamesDoe: 4:48pm On Dec 02, 2011
No cause for alarm.

GEJ is just giving Naija police an opportunity to collect Xmas bonus.

Police will start stopping every Okada man, and charging him double or even triple the usual bribe.

Come 2012, after all the noise the policy will be quietly reversed.

Nigeria has too many senseless literates.

If educated people act as rascals on the web , for a s tory they still dont have full grasp of, then how should the illitrate okada man react.

People are just posting rubbish and calling GEJ names without understanding what the new law covers.

Wrong move, wrong timing except it is meant for the quick disintegration of Nigeria as someone postulated. On the other hand, it could be a diversionary tactic to get people removing their focus from the subsidy issue to something more painful!

quote]Jonathan does not care about the common man, if not how can you ban okada without providing a substitute means of transportation and livelihood for these people?

He also wants to remove fuel subsidy at the same time. Insecurity is at an all time high. unemployment too. Let people keep making excuses for the man, shey the general excuse is that he just got into power. My question is who then has been ruling nigeria for the past year  before he got reelected?

Let people be honest and see that this man isnt doing a good job at all. Let us stop celebrating mediocrity in our leaders. If he wants to ban okada, he needs to provide an alternative for the okada drivers and also people who use them as a means of transportation.
[

I am just fed up with this administration. Totally fed up! What level of suffering is GEJ actually planning for the common man by 2011; fuel subsidy removal, re-introduction of tolling nationwide, national okada ban etc? Do all these feel like fresh air to him? Let us all tell ourselves the truth. This man is very alien to leadership. He is a mistake.

The man with the real gist, please tell us.

You are offended that people called GEJ names, yet branded them "illiterates" for expressing their views.  Too bad!

Really? what exactly did the person hear? someone else has said its not a blanket ban on all okadas but for certain kinds of engines , so which do we beleive?

My point is , people should exercise some caution , get the full gist and then react. All these hasty venoms are not appropriate.

Why do i have a feeling one man somewhere needs to import a large number of motorcycles. So in order for his to sell he will run other people out of business since he has the ear of the presidency. Reminds me of when we were forced to put reflector stickers on our cars, dumb illiterate govt officials are not aware that rear lights of all vehicles already have reflectors. sad
Re: Motorcycles (Okadas) Banned Nationally From December 31, 2011? by Reference(m): 5:14pm On Dec 02, 2011
Sometimes government can be so insensitive. In saner climes the questions officials will ask themselves will border on, "How do we get these folks off these dangerous and humiliating jobs and unto stable, decent incomes. How do we create jobs and get them off the streets.

Nigerian authorities on the other hand view them as threats to be done away with.

We know what happened to the last king who treated his subjects so shabbily to the point of calling them 'gangster rats'. When asked later why he wasn't preserved for trial they asked, "do rats have lawyers too". Government, watch how you treat your people.
