I'm not saying all men, but a LOT of men these days still think women: -should be stay at home housewives who's only purpose in life is to serve their husbands, as that's all they're good for; -shouldn't even be allowed to drive cars (I've seen a lot worse men drivers than women) -shouldn't have their own opinion about anything because it doesn't matter I'm wondering why a lot of men still have these opinions about women. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from being a "feminist", I'm just shocked to find that these men haven't matured since the early 20th century. I'm really interested to know the reasoning behind this. Again, I'm not referring to all guys, I know there are some out there that think women are more than servants. In addition to this, Why do NL/Nigerian guys disrespect their women so much? Where is the historical African culture? And yes, I am prepared for the "women belong in the kitchen" comments and the like. NOTE: I am American and this topic is not in anyway related to me/my life. annita19: Please dont take the posts in this section seriously. A lot of guys are just here to have fun while remaining anonymous. Concerning your other post, it depends on mindset, culture and exposure. Some were raised by both parents (mothers inclusive) to believe how women are supposed to be treated . .and some of these guys will not get out of that mentality easily. It is the same way with racism here in the US . . . .some people will never AGREE that a black man is not inferior. So, basically, it is about upbringing and system, and some are not willing to change. |

In my own case I agree with KOKOYE. Partially Pendo is right too. But you need to know that this is an anonymous forum and some of us portray the other side "negative". This ground will be aiight if people quit being emotional over strangers and their comments. |

Anything said on Nairaland stays on Nairaland, most of the posters on here are actually the stark opposite of the "despicable" image they present here, that's why its an anonymous, and faceless forum. A guy may say all sorts of drivel about Nigerian ladies here just for the fun of it, no one should take it seriously. The Nigerian ladies who take what is said here seriously are in most cases being pricked by their own guilty conscience, someone who knows that what is said about her ethnicity is totally untrue shouldn't give a toss if it's been said a million times a day. |

Why is it that it is not working in 9ja? After beijing '95, all women went to work. Common sense will let our women know that they know how to soften a man's heart. 3mnths is enough time to know how to get anything you want from him. As i am, even if i cheat on my gf and she catches me, i know how to strike in a way that she will even apologise to me. Back to topic, Now, knowing fully well that the average african man has got a very big ego, cant common sense tell the 9ja women that a simple sense of psychological application will help here? Instead, our women went out, in masses, to the streets, chanting their silly random what a man can do, a woman can do better cliche, thereby hurting the men's ego. Now tell me, why will men give them chance. If a woman earns income more than her husband, he will get annoyed. No man will want to be used as a platform for the women folks to chant their stup1d slogan. Now, the women are complaining. Why should we care? If you give women a yard, they will want a mile. A man will provide for the family without complaint. The reverse will be the case if it were the woman. Most times, i have no sympathy whenever i hear i hear complaints like this. It is sad that 16yrs after, our women are still struggling with 70-30 sharing unlike their foreign counterparts like canada, us, . . .with 50-50. . . 1 Like |

I want it noted that i am not an anti-women empowerment. Just look at the 9ja version of being a feminist compared to their other national counterparts. My only sadness is that our women, despite their 'lunaticity', are still far behind other women. Why i want their empowerment 'cause, if my mum wasn't empowered, im mean say from 2007, e for don begin dey be me be dat. Perhaps that might be the impression you get on Nairaland, but I suspect that is not the case in the real world. I should also add that I do not harbor a sense of entitlement, so I don't expect people to respect me just because I'm a man. |

I don't know what you all mean when you say comments on NL are untrue or shouldn't be taken seriously. If I tell you all that I lost my respect for women the day I bleeped a suppposedly responsible one who, half-way into the show, invited a friend of hers that looked even more decent to join thereby giving me a splendid though unsoicited t.h.r.e.e.s.o.m.e, and some of you think I shouldn't be taken seriously because it's posted on nairaland, then tell me where to post It for it to be taken seriously. Because, majority of Nigerian women have lost their respect. They don't even respect themselves. They are their own worst enemies. Especially the Nigerian girls who make a living from dating and sleeping with married men and make these husbands to deprive their wives of their matrimonial dues. I wish these women who are home breakers of their fellow women would cease to exist! Daughters from adulterous relationships end up like mother like daughter. How can four Nigerian women agree to sleep with the same man in a hotel?
