Is not the judgement that matters, are they going to re contest? if yes, then better there was no such judgement. Is going to be a waste of resources,
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by lucom: 1:26pm On Jan 27, 2012
I think the ruling of the Supreme court is an illegality in the sense that if an opposition candidate had won the re-run election at the time this candidate would have stayed the full term of his/her tenure, so why shouldn't the incumbent governors who won the freshly conducted elections stayed their full term. Here I see the big hand of the president trying to persecute Sylva(and unfortunately others) and in the process setting a precedent for future illegality. This is so wrong.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by TRUTHTELA: 1:37pm On Jan 27, 2012
I dnt give a F$@k abt Sylva. But if Lamrode(EFCC), is going to help Jonadunce Retard, by arresting the Bayelsa Gov.alone, Let him know that he is FINISHED. All the Govs av been looting,if there is any sincerity in the fight against what (CORRUPTION) Jonathan & his wife had Ph.d, on,all the five Gov's have to be arrested, pending when Jonadunce will leave office &he will be arrested too. He had no shoes growing up,all his assets should be average, cos becoming a cluless president of a Banana republic should not translate to being a BILLONAIRE.

Some people dont even know the genesis of the cases, yet they come here and talk. Some dont even know why their tenure was elongated in the first instance. Some didnt know this victory is for INEC who took the case beyond the Appeal court all up to the Supreme Court.

Who do you blame for the tenure elongation initially? The electoral Act, the Judiciary or GEJ as usual? Some dont even know these guys had been in government before GEJ came in as President.

Its good to think before attacking government and even Nigeria as a whole.

Read all the arguments here, if you want to know whats up:

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by Koolking(m): 1:56pm On Jan 27, 2012
This no legitimate judgement. It is a belated judgement intended to fool Nigerians. Appeal court had all the evidences to sack these governors but the judges compromised with PDP bigwig.

For once PDP caucus agreed to allow its decision affects others in the party all in their quest to get back at Sylva (immediate past governor of bayelsa). PDP and the judges are only acting out their scripts.

SAN FRANCISCO, January 27, (THEWILL) – Chief Timipre Sylva has gone into hiding, according to very credible reports reaching THEWILL.

The embattled former governor who was sacked Friday morning alongside four other governors bailed on his aides in the wee hours of Friday.

Security sources say Sylva and his family who were in Abuja until a few hours ago have skipped town for an unknown destination.

“We are looking for him, he told his security detail to wait for him in their convoy early this morning. No one has seen him since then. We are looking for him,” one source told THEWILL.

THEWILL had previously reported that Sylva was the target of the Supreme Court judgement to enable the Presidency prosecute him for various offences ranging from corruption to treason.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by tdikeh: 3:03pm On Jan 27, 2012
Dispensation of justice in Nigeria is rather too slow. Idris of Kogi state ought to have vacated his seat since May 2011, but has stay on till now when he has just a month and some days to fulfill the four year term. None of them has nothing to loose since they must have anticipated the judgement and thereby fill their pockets with loots from their states.
The opposition groups in Kogi State should put their acts together, prepare for a fresh election and make sure these looters never smell power in again.
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by Knight1(m): 3:09pm On Jan 27, 2012
Not likely there'll be fresh elections in Kogi. THe supreme court delicately stated the judgment; not ruling for fresh elections. just saying all em guvs ended their tenures last year.
but if liyel imoke/wamako/nyako win again, when will the tenures begin? from last yr or this year?

i hope the supreme court hasn't created more trouble o
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by klas(m): 3:22pm On Jan 27, 2012
Kobojunkie:

How did there Tenure end back in May 2011, yet they were allowed to continue as Governors? Was there no election? Is this news even real? How does a governor get to hang on to power even after an election where he looses? Or am I missing something here?

No governorship elections were held in the affected states in April 2011.

The issue started from 2007 election. The affected governors had their original election victory in April 2007 cancelled by the tribunals midway into their tenure but they again won rerun elections which were held at various times in 2008.

The issue before the court was when should their 4 years tenure start counting? From the date of the original election or the rerun election? 1999 constitution favours the latter but the 2010 amendment to the constitution says it is the former.

The governors felt that the amendment should not apply to them because it was made after their elections. The High Court and the Court of Appeal agreed with them in February and March 2011 but the Supreme Court by today's judgement ruled otherwise.
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by Kolababa: 3:25pm On Jan 27, 2012
As for Kogi, the meaning of the judgement is that all parties should go back to pre May 2011 electoral time table.
So, Sylver is still the authentic PDP candidate as far as the pre May 2011 gubernotorial primary. So if they arrest Sylver, that one is not a sufficient ground to subtitute a candidate from INEC unless pdp will not have a candidate and if PDP try to put forward any candidate, remember Celestial Omehia and Rotimi Amaechi case of Rivers State.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court sacks five governors by AppleFan: 4:12pm On Jan 27, 2012
This is indeed the moment of truth. Nigerians have been crying for change. Now that the law has made this possible, history will not forgive this generation if we re-elect these type of individuals who have promise but not delivered, into office again. We will have ourselves to blame and the generation after us may have to start all over again to reclaim the mandate.

We have spoken with our voices for too long, some have even paid the ultimate sacrifice. Now is the time to speak with our votes. There may never be another chance
!

One by one, we should see the end of these present government at all levels and replace with ones of integrity and fairness. Remember everything we demanded for during the subsidy demonstrations, next time you cast your votes! Please do

Thanks for the info

Why were they allowed to enter the 2008 rerun elections in the first place? If the courts cancelled their elections due to electoral malpractices, in that case they should have been barred from participating in future governorship races.  So from 2007 to date, these states have been governed by illegitimate individuals.

This is really a farce.

what is the breaking news all about? When this men will be having there elections few weeks from now.

One of the problems we have in this country is the judiciary.

They are never consistent with there laws.A court will pass a judgement another will counter and so on,prolonging issues. Now a court have said the governors were staying illegally at the government house. Will they refund their salaries, allowances since they collected all this illegally.

The judiciary needs a serious reform so cases can be treated urgently and justice done.

Jubilation in Yenagoa as Police sealed up Government House
On January 27, 2012 · In News
By Samuel Oyadongha, Yenagoa

Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital, Friday, erupted in celebration as the news of the ouster of Governor Timipre Sylva by the Supreme Court hit the air wave.

Immediately, the police authorities sealed off the Creek Haven Government House, in Bayelsa State ostensibly to prevent looting of the place.

Heavily armed policemen barricaded the Onopa end of the  Mbiama-Yenagoa road leading to the Government House and it was closed to traffic.

When Vanguard visited the area armed  policemen were sighted diverting traffic to the Lambert Eradiri road connecting the DSP Alamieyeseigha way to the other parts of Yenagoa.

Armed policemen were also deployed around the Peace Park, directly opposite the Government House, stopping visitors from gaining entry into the amusement park.

It was jubilation galore at the popular Swali  Market and other parts of Yenagoa traders and residents chanted songs to celebrate the exit of Governor Timipre Sylva.

Most of the pubs and other relaxation joints witnessed heavy turn-out of customers as many stormed the beer parlours, reveling over the court verdict.

As at press time, the state Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri was yet to swear in the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Nestor Binabor allegedly awaiting a certified copy of the court ruling.

It was gathered that a helicopter had already been despatched to Abuja to get the certified copies of the apex court ruling.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Mr Hilary Opara, in an interview with newsmen said “Bayelsans should remain calm and law abiding. The government belongs to the people. If there is any change of leadership, a Bayelsan is going to be there”.

I am missing something? Somebody should please explain to me how the fact of 'jubilation galore' and 'storming beer parlors' lends credence to Beaf's earlier assertions as to Sylva's character - and note my use of the word 'assertions'. Bode George was received as a hero after he left prison. Hundreds of supporters went with placards to support OGD when he was initially arraigned for frauds he committed while in office. BG has not become un-convicted and OGD is still facing his criminal charges.
