Don't believe anyone who say Ur pocket will be destroyed if you don't give money as tithe in the church. Whether tithe, offerings or fruits.....the key is in freewill giving of any or all of these. If you must pay tithe then do it the right old testament way... “You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year. And you shall eat before the Lord your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always. (Deuteronomy 14:22, 23 NKJV) But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the Lord your God has blessed you, then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses. (Deuteronomy 14:24, 25 NKJV) And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you. (Deuteronomy 14:26, 27 NKJV) |

There are good contributions here and it is very good to discuss any matter, doctrinal or non doctrinal that bothers the minds for the sake of striking out the truth for majority of people to hold on to. God even wants people to behave this way when He lovely addressed people thus “come now, and let us reason together, said the Lord“... As Jesus righly said he had not come to destroy the law and the work of the prophets but rather to fulfil it and consolidate on the revelations given to the prophets. First we Christians know that the fulfillment of the law was evident in the way he gave clear definitions of offence that warrants judgement. He made us realize that when it comes to doing justly nobody should place himself as a master, he emphasizes the need to allow for a level playing ground, hence when he said, you that is in a position to judge first observe the log of wood blocking your eyes before you judge others for specs in their eyes. By his atoning sacrifice the former laws that involved sacrifices were renewed by his precious blood, therefore no more bothering one‘s mind on needs for living in the way of old covenant that Jesus has renewed for us so that we are not burdened again. Also, Jesus summarised all the laws which were above six hundred in the old testament to only Two which are very simple to remember and practise for a person that is up to fulfil all the laws. Jesus was not taking the laws one by one to replace it with the best alternative but he made us realize that if a person offended in one of the laws he offended in all. We should be very careful not to short change the ordinances of God to suite our comfort. Remember that when it came to giving for the course of gospel, Jesus Commended the old woman and revealed that her offerings was greater than those with bigger offerings because she parted with that very little she had, that is, what everyone in his sense will believe to do harm when they are thinking of subsequent desires or needs. This means a meaningful sacrificial offering that is product or reward of our Labour counts meaningfully to God. While some arguments yield a point, we must be very careful not to use our freedom to deviate from the command of God. Many people argued here that the new testament was silent on tithing and as such they could avoid it. Hear me a decision like this is a way to self destruction. That the new testament was silent about a law doesn‘t mean it is not embedded in the renewed laws given by Christ. If God should Mark sin nobody would stand but God‘s words are still fulfilling in our life. God is slow to anger, He is gracious and merciful towards those who are faithful unto Him (Jonah 4:2). As a Christian turn right attitude to the followings and take them seriously they are the basis of your faith: giving and tithing, prayer and fasting, and evangelism for from these your work and labour of love shall be tried. |

Most simply put the offerings were to be made at the altar in the temple by the priesthood. The temple was destroyed and the priesthood no longer exists so the offerings can no longer be made. Just as the other sacrifices can no longer be made. I can find nowhere in scripture where anyone was given the power to be the new levitical priesthood so no one has the right to claim the offerings. The Messiah says his followers would be priests and kings as Melchizedek not the Aaronic priesthood. Hope this makes sense to anyone confused. I feel i should also add we are to give to the needy and those doing the work of our Father but that does not translate as tithes or offerings to a "church" |

The Sabbath also preceded the Law. --So on the seventh day,God rested from all His work Gen2:2b. He also blessed it and made it holy. Why don't our today preachers/ pastors teach us to obey the sabbath law? Why don't they teach us to follow the example in Genesis concerning Rest? Why are they more interested in tithe than sabbath, even though they both preceded the Law of Moses? |

mummykia: The Sabbath also preceded the Law. --So on the seventh day,God rested from all His work Gen2:2b. He also blessed it and made it holy.I agree 100% but this question was on tithe not the Sabbath which is also one of the 10 commandments. |

mummykia: The Sabbath also preceded the Law. --So on the seventh day,God rested from all His work Gen2:2b. He also blessed it and made it holy. Sabbath preceded the law Circumcision preceded the law Animal sacrifices preceded the law Setting up of physical altars preceded the law Polygamy preceded the law Tithing (is said to have) preceded the law Why is only tithing that survived all these ordinances that preceded the law. The answer is simple: The tithe is obsolete, my friends, their is no basis for giving it in the NT, save for a free will offering. 1 Like |
