Maybe but we didn't really suffer for it. Keano emerged as a leader, Nicky Butt was a decent replacement and later on Scholes came in as a bonus addition. The one that really pains me until this day is Jaap Stam's exit. We might have won a 4th straight premier league title and gone far in the UCL because that was the year we got Ruud and we scored loads of goals but had many ridiculous loses.

It is very likely he is eventually sold off to a club outside the UK.

It is not the same. Training doing what? Who has he been dribbling past in training? Who has been tackling him? Who has been in goal for him to improve his shooting?

Running all day and lifting weights is not the same. And this is assuming he has the discipline and inner drive to maintain fitness for a year while facing possible jail time and online abuse.
