argentina played 4-2-3-1 throughout the knock out phase. messi tucked in behind higuain. lavezzi, perez/di maria provided the width.

i provided messi in barca stats....
he's as good as cesc in pass accuracy. i doubt there's a forward with a better passing accuracy as messi on the planet.....perhaps welbeck!

RvP & Falcao have similar style of play. their pace have largely deteriorated, especially Falcao - the partnership will not work. they both have better chance @ striking gold if they return the way they know how to play - leading the line as poachers & lone strikers.

the long ball/short ball ratio is also a myth! we have always played like this but trust the media to blow things out of proportion. our long pass proportion is 14% & the media are running with it cos sam allardyce used it to rib united.

it was shocking when opta came out with the facts that our long pass proportion was 13% in 07/08 season when we had tevez, rooney & ronaldo running like possessed animals. none of us here would say that side was a long ball squad.

Me thinks we should be playing a lone CF with a "hole man" just behind. However, with the imminent departure of falcao and RVP obviously on a steady decline, I am of the opinion that we need to sign a decent Striker next season. With the general dearth of world class centre forwards in Europe, what's your take on a 20-30m acquisition of cavani??

* Forget about Messi and other forwards. If RVP played for Barca he would come out with 88% accuracy. If Messi played for Man United, he would make only 79% accuracy.

* Smalling failed in his primary duty. His defensive performance today was the worst we have seen from a centre back since M.Dons beat us 4-0. He was the reason we lost composure at the back and we invited undue pressure.
