Good day sir, this is to notify you that all 182 and 365 days Treasury bill investment failed. From first bank
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by seyi0802(m): 11:49am On May 31, 2019
GTB said 365days bill failed. I just got into the secondary market at 11% for 182 days. Not too bad but subsequently I will move away from GTB. So if u will like to enter the secondary market, just call your account officer and instruct him to allow u enter the secondary market. Am sure the 1.77% reduction is for their personal gain. But 11% is not so bad to start with it.

11/100 x 460, 000 = 50,600

50600/ 365 = 138.63

138.630137 x 144 = 19,962.7

Kindly share the rate with us here for the two tenure when you eventually know it, I am presently contemplating on which bank to choose amongst Stanbic, First bank and GTB.

GTB rate for 182 days is 11.5
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Controlv: 2:04pm On May 31, 2019
Zenith bank just debited me for 182 days at 10.8%. My account officer had informed prior to initiating the transaction that rate the week is 12.4%. 10.8% for 182 days is not encouraging.

Did your account officer say rate of 12.4% was for 182 or 364?. The rates are not really known prior to the auction. It is only after the auction that the rates are known but account officers can try to extrapolate based on the last rate but it is not cast in stone.

Am yet to hear from stanbic.....anyone with any news.

Am ready to pull my money if it fails this time cos it will make it the 3rd time in 2months.

This looks like a deliberate plot.

Is there anyone still bidding with Standard Chartered Bank? Their rates were almost always below 0.01 of the CBN closing rates those days.

Not yet.

I have been debited for 181days... I think the banks are making business from this. Purchasing from Primary market and sellling to us at a reduced secondary market rate. Also the custodian fee is like a reap off. I will visit the bank on Monday to know the % or how custodian fee was calculated.

All Nigerian banks are fraudulent in nature. Still sharing from the small 12% per annum.

It is not a reap off. It is the price you pay for not having the required N50m needed to bid in the primary market. If you are buying cups of rice because you do not have the required money for a bag of rice, will you say the cup of rice seller is reaping you off?.

Since March 2019, investors are often advised to bid short term in primary market, 91 or 182 days in t-bills. CBN is using short term to offset our huge local debt, a very brilliant strategy from Emefiele. A bank manager once told me that most 364 days bid in t-bills in 2019 won't be successful, but hopefully things might improve in 2020.
