Nebeuwa: I recently stayed in Owerri 2 months ago and I enjoyed it very much. The city was very calm, the people are nice and I love how the city has a lot of green spaces. That being said, I would not be able to compare Owerri from Port Harcourt, because I have never been to Port Harcourt. And I may be a little biased as well, because my family has a home in Owerri.

Ph is the most unplanned city i ve been to in nigeria, no roads, houses are built indiscriminately, no errosion control,a little rain messes the entire city up. too much unplanned mushroom houses. its only aba road that looks good.

OWerri, on the other hand is smaller, but very beautiful compare to ph, more planned with better road net works, beatiful landscaping, a green city.

in conclusion i will say IN TERMS OF INDUSTRALIZATION PH IS FAR MORE DEVELOPED. BUT IN TERMS OF TOURISM, ORGANIZATION AND BEAUTIFICATION AND OWERRI IS BETTER.

Port Harcourt is not as bad as you paint it. It is true that a lot of areas are littered with mushroom rusty houses but they are restricted to ancient villages that the rapid expansion of the city got them into the metropolis.

Such places as Rumuigbo, Rumuola, Rumuokwurusi, Eneka, Igwruta, Rukpokwu, Eligbam, Orogbum/ Ogbunabali, Rumukalagbo, Elelenwo, Rumuipirikom, Rumuoparali, Rumuolumeni, Rumuodara, Rukpakwulusi, Eliozu, Rumuokoro, Rumuagholu, Eliowhani, Rumunduru, Oroigwe, Eligbolo, Elimgbu, Nkpolu, Oromenike/D-line,woji/Rumurolu, Mgbuoba, Ozuoba,Rumuosi, Rumuomasi, Oginigba/slaughter etc all had large village settlement that were once outside the city but have been engulfed. You cannot demolish people's village compound and we all know how traditional compounds are. Narrow roads and house clusters with an outpost known as "Obiri Oro or Oha" which in most cases nowadays have been covered with stores.

Owerri is free of that for now.

Port Harcourt is an advanced city by Nigerian standard. It only comes 3rd behind Abuja and Lagos. I don't think it is fair to compare it with Owerri. Owerri can serve as a future high brow area to Mega Port Harcourt.

I think cities such as Enugu, owerri, Asaba, Awka and Uyo should learn from the mistakes of cities such as lagos, PH, Onitsha etc. They should make sure people don't go building houses wherever they like. They have to maintain the original masterplan of these cities.
