This is an office that regulates the transaction of over #6 trillion, and instead of asking whether the country is a better place to do stock business, we're killing ourselves over the one penny she used to host an official party at a 5 star hotel. Something still doesn't look right.

The house panel knows the lavish conditions attached to top federal positions, because they too enjoy it. However, if they don't know for example that she's entitled to 4 vehicles, they should first educate themselves, instead of dramatizing the fact that she's keeping 2 goverment vehicles in her possesion. Their investigation can certainly become more professionally handled.

NAIRALANDERS!! this is Transcorp Hilton we are talkin about here! my company pays almost N6000/meal each nite i spend in the Hotel we use in Port Harcourt which is not even near the class of Transcp Hilton so guys lets be reasonable..

Plz my friend she didn't not double the transactions within the capital market she is only regulating activities of parties in the market as a one time player in the market its people like you that decide to buy shares coz your broker advise you, the increase of trading transactions and the reason for the crash was because banks like intercontinental, oceanic, union bank were lending people money to people to buy shares which they couldn't take possession of and secondly the so called foreign investors had to drag out their money because the banks in their home countries were calling for these loans, given to them to do invest in the capital market in Nigeria during the economic crisis/recession, coupled with the fact that these nigerian banks rather then lending to SME's invest in products preferred buying and selling, and this placed all kinds of tabs which did allow people to trade freely as buyers/players and they couldn't sell what they had brought on loan until they had paid back the loans they acquired, so where does she come in " I BIND THE. Am I the only person that has noticed that the invoice was for a three course meal which actually totals at N245,500?
You all seem to be fixated on the N91k for desserts and think that's the grand total.
I could be wrong o. But if I'm not, then I think N245k for dinner is too much in a country where 60% of its citizens find it difficult affording a N200 meal.
Also, for some reasons, you all seem to believe six people had dinner that day, that is an incorrect assumption. Four is a more likely number. (Notice the 4 Lobsters, 4 Salmon and 4 Creme Brulee?)

In as much as i don't support looting of public funds in any form, but seriously, i think the items listed on this bill incurred at a hotel like Transcorp isnt that much. If you head a multinational or an Agency like the Stock Exchange you have to enjoy the perks of office as provided by your employers. Though in her case she didnt exercise caution. Public funds is different from Private funds so in her case she should be persecuted for the misuse of public funds.

This is no criticism of the DG but an observation of how unnecessary bureaucracy and manual systems keep hampering Nigeria's development in a computer age.

For instance, the SEC’s recent recruitment of 52 Young Professionals lasted one full year.

The DG’s office receives all applications to the SEC, and in the case of a merger or acquisition, forwards it to the Executive Commissioner Operations (ECOP). The ECOP in turn forwards the application to the Director of the Securities and Investments Services (SIS) Division who then forwards the application to the Head, Mergers & Takeover department, the Head, Legal Division of SIS. The Director of SIS receives the analysis of the transaction from M&T and the legal opinion of the Legal Division, both of SIS. The Director SIS then makes a recommendation to the Executive Commissioner, Operations who in turn reviews and either endorses or disapproves the transaction and submits to the DG for final approval. The DG’s decision is based on the recommendations made and is communicated to the parties through the ECOP and Director SIS.

Nigerian public bodies need to incorporate best practices into their working methods to cut unnecessary red tape and bureaucracy and breed the efficiency that is needed to compete in todays fast moving sink or swim globalised business world where to even blink can leave even advanced economies behind talk less of a country where a public body WASTES one full year on the recruitment process for 52 staff. But if it were an Oyinbo "Expatriate" they will probably give him the job on the spot with abnormally high salaries and perks.

It was quite cheap and a low blow for the House of Reps to go digging for dirt on the SEC DG. To the extent of going to collect her receipts from the Hilton hotel. These House of reps members are jobless and/or ignorant. How much is N85,000 in terms of the MATERIALITY test when compared with the N6.6 trillion capital market she is regulating. And to even think that the N85,000 expenses were all LEGITIMATELY spent in the course of her official duties.

This exposes the mindset of our lawmakers who automatically assumed that they will find some dirt on this woman hence their HUNT for her hotel receipts.

This shows that ALL OUR LAWMAKERS ARE THIEVES and are telling us albeit unknowingly that if they were in her shoes, they will steal by inflating hotel receipts hence their hunt for her hotel receipts.

i have watched and read about the public hearing on capital market. you cant run a system if you dont follow your internal regulations. the sec dg broke some rules from what i read and watched. she stayed at the transcorp Hilton for over 56 days(28 days is normal government policy when you get a new appointment and the sec has another 28 days or you can receive the cash , its standard) she stayed for 7 -8 months. she claims she didn't know, that when she found out she moved out. but people in her office office knew she was breaking the rule on hotel regulation but cause of Nigerian factor 1. didn't 2. couldn't tell her or may be she is lying. government officials are quick to play the i didn't know card passing the buck to someone that has retired or left the department. she broke a few other ones all she needed to do was put her hands up apologise and not try to be holy.

Eating in Transcorp Hilton must not be this expensive.
If as a nation, the government says it cannot afford to subsidse fuel and still spend frivolously on its personel, it means the government and its personnels are crooks. You can imagine how many heads of governmental agencies spend as much as this.
I once saw the bill of a top government official that lodged his family in the hotel for a weekend, it was too outrageous.
And that is how they waste over collective resources.
