Now I can imagine their indignation; I would protest wildly too if I were in their shoes.

That name Moshood, chai! E no sweet for mouth, Unilag wasn't just Ǟ name, it was a 50-year old legacy, and uncle Jonah has ruined it in just one day. Moshood! Very ugly-sounding name, no offence. Now if Unical is changed to Donald Duke Uni, people won't make Ǟ fuss cos the name is classy, even Anthony Enahoro replacing Uniben go take style make sense, but Moshood, chai! The name carry weight grin
Re: Abiola's Family, Oyegun Express Shock, Dissapointment At UNILAG Protests by itslordmoh: 11:51pm On May 30, 2012
The fact is that the protests are a result of popular opinion. Many Nigerians feel that Abiola didn't really have the masses in mind when running for the election. Nigerians wanted anybody but the military and so voted him. Naming a very popular and highly acclaimed university like Unliag after such a man is taken as insulting by many people. Same thing happened in Imo state when the Imo state university was named Evan Enwerem University by the former governor. It is true that the university is not among the Ivy league insitutions in Nigeria and although there were protests, they were relatively small. If an institution is named after Dim Ojukwu for instance, it would not be protested by anyone because he actually is worth immortalizing in such manner. Considering the state of affairs in Nigeria, I would have advised Jonathan not to bring up such a controversial topic. Anyway, the deed is done and we just have to hope for the best.

i doubt people are even going by that name anymore, seriously speaking.

if morufu is now al maroof, and so on ad infinitum, I'm sure the moshoods of today would prefer to be called al mashud or al ma'sud.

In as much as I like MKO, I strongly believe that it should not have been UNILAG. National Stadium, Independence Building, Race Course could have been ideal, but Not UNILAG, it is a Brand that has been in existence for 50 years, Jonathan should not just erode this away in 1 day.

in civilized countries, people use think tanks, conduct research, sample public opinion, etc before embarking on projects which are geared towards the public.

is there anything like that in nigeria?

Is there any leader/rich man in nigeria, past or present dat has not been spoken ill of? Its high time we check ourselves or put ourselves in dis pple shoes. Abiola won world businessman of the year awards(twice in his lifetime),With the said stolen wealth sum dumb asses are talking abt,yet he gave back at his best. we tend 2 make mistakes, during our lifetime (as life comes wit no operating manual) he made his.....but its so sad dat his makes is wot, many has gotten 2 speak abt ritenow & not his gud deeds. He's d only billionaire nigerian dat has ever lived in d last century dat gave back to d poor. Speaking of education, do y'all know at a time abiola was paying school fees of over 400 nigerian students schooling abroad yearly?Minus his own children & minus those ones schooling in 9ja. Pls let those who are saying negative things abt him, tell me wot d likes of dangote (GCON), otedola, ibrahim,Adenuga & co has done,in terms of education? Afterall,Dangote is d richest blackman on d face of d earth. Where was he wen abiola was alive? Creating employment, abiola did well during his lifetime & still gave back educationally in scholarships & support. If u culd ever get close 2him wit ur educational problems,ur problem is 90% solved. If he was not to fight 4d leadership of nigeria & stayed business focused I'm sure he wuld be rated among d 1st 3 (forbes world richest) now ? He gave all dat up,to correct his ills,by trying to lead his country & reduce poverty to the minimum amongst d masses. Even during d june 12 struggle wen most of d pple running their mouths ritenow, are still toddlers,Unilag students were @ d fore-front of d protests among all d 9ja schools,Unilag student buried him & screened those who are allowed into his house or those who are to be booed or chased.......If he wasn't recognized,All these wuldnt have bin done. Walk few meters in his shoes,b4 u judge him !

Life comes with no operating manual? An old man like him did not know in the 70s, 80s, and 90s that stealing the future of millions of Nigerians is not good? ROFLMAO!!

May people continue to steal from your future, and make right by simply giving a portion of what they steal to others. May they never be prosecuted for any crimes committed against your person.
AMEN!

this should make you happy!

I want to state it here that MKO was a philiantropist in his life-time and we appreciate it. Infact the greatest. We all must learn from history and pass it down to the next generation. MKO had somany shady deals. He and IBB were good friends but they had a rift (which ofcourse would be about power sharing) and IBB through Abacha messed him up. The SW are not naive and dumb. MKO worked really hard during his campaign and he won the election.

Saying something is wrong with SW shows you're ill-informed. I'm not against immortalizing MKO but let due process prevail. Plus, is it only education that MKO represents? He already has MAPOLY in Abeokuta. Why not something else? Even Pa Ajasin that severed this country, never stole a penny and died in the prison was immortalised with ONE school. Why does MKO deserve two schools?
GEJ cant woo us with that, he needs to perform. Simple.

Hello sir, I don't know what you mean by this bold part. And did Pa. Ajasin actually died in prison? That's news to me.

If it is, then we've noted it.
